The problem with rough sex videos, as I see is it that they are compounding a wider problem.

By rough sex videos, I mean specifically Max Hardcore and Meatholes.com etc. They are not simply about sex, but about normalising a particular mindset. That of borderline rape (I know that Max has simulated that in one title, can't remember the name) and of a more psychological edge which goes beyond typical porn.

I think that this is dangerous because if this is someone's whole frame of erotic refference, as it would be if you don't socialise much (i.e. have few friends) and aren't good around women. To have guys with social problems walking around thinking that Meatholes.com is the norm, to me seems pretty dangerous.

To say that these people don't have a degree of social responsibility seems short sighted. As does the idea that people are too intelligent to be influenced by porn, because many are not.

I am not anti porn (far from it) I just feel that the idea of "community standards" should extend beyond particular acts, to include particular styles of pornography. Given recent changes in regulations, can a war on pornography be so far away? All it takes is a few upside-down heads being throat fucked from "Gag Factor" and surely it makes life more difficult for everyone who produces good work.

Pain and roughness will always be a part of sex for some people. It's quite contrary to our normal civil instincts, but it's still there. Both sexes can be shown to actively encourage this kind of extreme, to get satisfaction.
I would have to say though, if someone is having to go to further and further extremes, sex is probably not the answer they're looking for.
Everyone has a cut off point, and I for one am not going to judge someone for having a boundary like that which is further down the line.

Chris_Lee brings up an interesting point. Unfortunately some may take these examples of fantasy and apply them to their own lives. If anyone is dumb enough to attempt this kind of behavior...they get what they deserve.

The idea that some people walking around thinking holliwood films or video games are the norm, is much more frightening to me.

This is an interesting FIRST post Chris_Lee. Especially since this topic is being discussed here ad nauseam in other threads.

Cool, yet another my-porn-tastes-are-better-because-I-don't-like-degradation thread (tm by nietzsche).

And I thought I was a big fan of Max Hardcore

Why are so many film titles derogatory to women?
Why are women treated so poorly in porn now?

The idea of someone thinking any kind of activity taking place in a movie is "the norm" seems pretty scary to me. Porn, Hollywood, made for Lifetime, etc. Soap operas are worse than porn, IMO and they come on during the day when the kids everyone is so worried about can see them.

I find it interesting that all of you will not at least consider Chris's comments.

Yes we have had this discussion over and over again.

Chris,

While porn is a lot bigger then your local conservative politicians would have you believe I do not really buy into the it "normalising" anything statment. For something to become the norm in our society it would take a lot more then for it to appear in a porn movie. Even if it appeared in every porn movie.

Also when you get into the more violent crimes such as rape and serial offenders. Almost to a one they all know what they did is wrong they just don't care. They put their needs above the rules of society. And while you and I may think "Gag Factor" approaches the level of rape in their reality it would usually not even be close to what they really desire.

Should a producer of anything consider what they are doing first and profit second. Sure in an ideal world they would but let's face it is what Max and Meatholes are doing now any different then what cigarette companies did for generations. Both put profit above other people. Hardly a new concept.

Rough sex and domination need no help from Max, et al. They've been around forever. While I have no use for that stuff, I'm much more concerned about porn-as-learning-tool in general. If kids think that porn style sex is de rigeur then we've got a problem, Houston. It's not that I think that any sex act in porn is wrong, but that the thought it might be required to be normal or to have a satisfactory sex life is.

Having said that, let me hasten to add that the facial is the only thing I've seen in porn that I haven't in real life, and maybe that lapse is just because the women I've been with were swallowers. And to think, all that from people who never watched a porn flick.

As for meatholes and Max providing ammunition for the war on porn, undoubtedly they do. However, it would be a mistake to think that they are the cause of that war.

I am a big fan of Max Hardcore and Have been for a long time (give or take 10 years). I have to admit that some of the stuff he does sometimes bother me. But, he does draw a line and will not do things he feels are wrong. I have never enacted what Max does, nor have I set off on a quest with a dwarf to throw a ring in some volcano despite loving the film. What he does is "fantasy" and fiction as far as I am concerned. You have to learn to look at it this way I guess... If I don't like some of the thinhs he does, I don't download it, period.

Cheers

The "Service Anumals" series is too rough for my taste, and I'm assuming it is light-years tamer than the two discussed here

It sort of becomes, which came first: the chicken or the egg? Everything in and of all elements of pop culture are simultaneously creations of and symptoms of the collective conscious/unconscious.
I agree with Linda; the widely accepted forms of entertainment are simply that much more effective a means of indoctrination. A lot of it is indeed strategically used as a vehicle for that. It also ties into what could be called an anti-intellectual ethic, with spiritually harmful side effects: non-critically thinking people will mindlessly accept things without question, making for herd mentality, easier control and manipulation.

I mean, I'm not trying to make an open endorsement for rape porn, I've never seen any and wouldn't want to because inherent desire for the unorthodox is far more interesting than forcing something on someone, or an issue. That's a turn off.

Personally (my only true frame of reference), I don't mind Max (and to a certain extent meatholes) style so much for what he does, all of which can be fun and exciting in the right context with a willing partner, so much as how he portrays his character (and by extension, pehaps by some stretch of my imagination only, men in general): relentlessly cruel, selfish predators who don't care whom they hurt or how much, as long as they get satisfaction.

It's OK as a fantasy once in a while, I suppose, but by having done it unapologetically for so long and continuing to crow about how he's such a revolutionary and everyone else is just jealous of his success, he shows how superficial he really is, financial success aside as an indication of success at being a human being.

Anyone with a little initiative and a willing camera operator could do what he's done and does, and I get sick of hearing his schtick about how he's such an originator in a world of imitators. He's not the first, I'm sure he won't be the last, and he's certainly not the best.

(That's not a personal attack, by the way, just an observation and opinion.)

My thoughts on normalizing a particular mindset, as far as densensitization or mainstream acceptance of what are commonly considered deviant practices: regardless of how many times I see someone get killed in a movie, or skull-fucked in a porn flick, some part of my mind can still differentiate between fantasy and reality. Most people probably can.

People who would rape someone, or engage in pedophilia, or beat up girls just to see and hear them cry may very well use pornography that depicts such as a means of justifying (at least in their mind) that their thoughts and desires are normal, and maybe those sights and sounds are all it takes to send them over the edge to act on those thoughts.

Perhaps for some it is enough of a vicarious release that it prevents them from acting out.

Hopefully, the truth is somewhere in the balance: people who would do these things anyway will do them regardless of what's out there, and those who won't, don't.

I doubt you will find it easy to get funding for that research project.

Meanwhile, the best way to boycott pornography you don't approve of, or are concerned about other people's mindsets over, is with your almighty dollar.

My two cents about savior complexes: some people don't think they need to be saved, and some realize it but don't want to. It's all very noble to be worried about what effect something is having on the rest of the people around you, but it starts with a cliche: self-awareness.

Take care of yourself, and everything else is cause and effect. Except, of course, those random blasts of chaos that cause trucks to flip over on your car on the interstate at 80 miles per hour whether you deserved to die or not.

Is this to be a new thread every week from a first-time poster?
My meatholes membership expired and I can't afford the $33.95 anymore. So I guess I no longer really care about the discussion. But C60 has it about right, I think.

Hey, why do we reply to these threads. They're all the same, every single week.

The formula goes something like this:
- I've noticed/realised something that nobody else in the world has.
- I'm not anti-porn...
- ...BUT these people are psycopaths blah blah blah
- It should all be banned.

People come to this board to wind us all up with this sort of shit and we always fall for it by writing practically a dissertation in response.
Notice how he hasn't even replied. Just lights the fuse and sits back to watch the fireworks. Sounds like fun. Maybe i'll try.

I like intense scenes, but like it better when the girl is in control to a degree. And like when the dude doesn't talk so much smack.
