I propose this thread as a place to discuss the trials and tribulations and titillations of sex with kids... I mean, consensual sex with your adult partner when you have children living at home. Why? What did you think I meant, sicko?

3rd kid is the charm, apparently: For the first time in 20 years of parenting, a kid walked in on us while we were doing the deed this morning. It was our youngest and only boy, age 11.

My wife has taken the lead and done a really amazing job with our girls on all that sex talk stuff; she's asked me to lead with our son and her example has provided a great blueprint. He's in the very early stages of puberty. Recently, after my wife found evidence of his looking for porn on her laptop (and she addressed that), I've talked to him about porn, masturbation, not hurting yourself while masturbating, cleaning up after yourself after masturbating, and now, knocking on bedroom doors before entering.

I'd really like to hear advice from other parents who've been through this or who are in the middle of this. My one and only tip for any parents out there is to do it without shaming. (I just turned 49, so I came of age -- in the U.S. South -- during the emergence of AIDS, and like much of my generation, I experienced a helluva lot of shame around sex.) There's a difference between the embarrassment of seeing/being seen doing something private and being ashamed. Generationally, we have to do a better job of normalizing human sexuality. Fortunately, I already have high hopes for parents I know who are a decade younger.

Tips? Questions? Anecdotes? Deliberately bad advice for the sake of humor? Ranking of positions it would be most awkward to be caught in?
