I don't know if this is something that you are able to do, but it is something that has made our life much easier doing mainframe FTP's. Instead of coding the IP address from every place that we do an FTP, we put the IP address in a centralized location, and then point to that location when doing the FTP. This way if an IP address changes, we only need to make the modification in that central location rather than having to change everything. These IP addresses can be pulled in and concatenated with directories and file names (which we DO code in each location since they are unique). I have to believe that this capablility is not unique to a mainframe. Considering all the links that you have, if you have the capability of doing this, it might not be a bad idea to look into. It takes more work to set up, but once it is completed, it is much easier to manage changes. [Link] |
