The Urban X Awards ’09 are here (July 26, 2009)…this is our second go round a chance to improve on the debut of our show from last year. The talk about creating a black oriented adult award show began about 3-years ago, when the frustration could be felt by black, latin and ethnic performers by the exclusion of recognition in the AVN Award show, people were moved to be acknowledge and decided the best way to receive recognition was to do the recognizing ourselves. I think it was after that award show, Diana DeVoe and a few others thought, “well this feels fucked up”. We talked that year about starting a show, but that was all it was just talk. All through ’07 a few of us kept discussing the plans for a show, at first we were going to do it in Las Vegas, during Magic (a clothing convention, that brings a lot of celebrities to town) we even got to the point of locking down a venue. But plans fell through and then after witnessing another AVN show in ’08 that seemed to honor everyone but the ethnic performers, Sharee English came up with the idea that we should have our own award show…no matter what. The show was put together in haste, with only 3 months to plan and execute, there was no time to worry about what could go wrong. Sponsors were brought on, a venue was set and Sean Michaels and Oliva’O Lovely were tapped to host the event. What was only talked about a few years ago, was now taking shape and there was no turning back. It felt like a reunion of the old with a embrace of the new. Julian St. Jox, Weed, Monique, Janet Jackme, Lexington Steele, Jasmine Cashmere, Don Cuba, Cherokee D’Ass, Roxy Reynolds, Marie Luv, Rico Strong and a whole lotta of otha folk all in one place, under one roof feeling the love. Even with the last minute planning the place was packed, standing room only. But that didn’t stop people from having a good time and with that the seed was planted, it was unanimous we will have another show… With this being #2 we hope to continue the growth and learn from the lessons that we encountered with the first one. With companies like West Coast Production, Black Market Video, Justin Slayer Productions and Alexander DeVoe involved this looks to be another good year. Hey Nevaquit, Have you thought of bringing great talents like Ice Cold and Richard Mann into your team?. I honsetly believe a team as strong as that will rule.
