Femmes DeSade (1976) is my all time Alex DeRenzy (R.I.P.) Classic, maybe because it took 30 years of wanting to view it uncut and it's one thing that I'll always be grateful for the internet for because I had mentioned it over on another forum and someone had brought to my attention that is was available, I noticed that it was on region 2, someone else told me I could watch it on my computer. Did that ever make me happy !!!! This was in 2008. Baby Face 2 (1986) is a very special film to me as well it was like the last of the feature films along with Pretty Peaches 2 and Taboo 4 before the market got flooded with shot on video probably some of the worst porn ever made. Also I had met Candi Evens she was employed for a short time at a strip club where I was employed at in Los Angeles during the late 80's. Vinegar Syndrome I have't ventured there yet, I'm getting so behind on my porn viewing these days.
They managed to snag Annette Haven for an audio interview for China Girl. I think it's the first time she's ever done anything of the kind. She's not an easy person to deal with, but she approved of the way they present their product and they paid what she wanted. She has a good memory, kept records of her work and isn't afraid of speaking her mind, so it should be an interesting listen to say the least. Also for the Babyface release, they got Molly Seagrim, who played Babyface's mother in the movie for an audio interview. She came across well in The Rialto Report piece on her and Zachary Strong, so that should be a good listen also. I think it's great she's finally getting the rightful credit for her tour de force performance after it being wrongly credited to Marion Eaton for many years.
Really look forward to the big 2 Adult titles for March, Babyface & China Girl, definitely worth picking up. They've done a great job restoring Taboo 1-4 and I hope to see Taboo 5 soon!
Taboo 5 won't be released on Blu-ray because despite being shot on film, it was only edited on standard definition video. The same is true for numerous other shot-on-film productions from the video era. I'm looking forward to watching Babyface on Blu, and the screenshots I've seen look absolutely stunning. I understand there was some water damage to reel 5, so hopefully that won't be too distracting. It's a miracle we're seeing these classics in HD at all, especially considering what we were expected to tolerate before companies like VS arrived on the scene. Now I just need find somewhere that will ship Babyface to the UK for a reasonable price. Otherwise, I'll have to wait until VS have their next free shipping day in October, by which time I'm sure there will be over $50 of titles worth ordering. If they release the Henri Pachard classics and Baby Face 2 before then, even better.
Amazon.com's shipping prices to the UK are cheap enough at $8 for the first disc. Unfortunately they charge full price for VS titles, which means paying additional Customs charges, something I'm not prepared to do. Amazon.com's packaging is also the worst in the industry, with about 50% of the Blu-rays I order from them arriving damaged. They use very thin bubble mailers which offer completely inadequate protection for international shipments. On the other hand their customer service is excellent; they invariably send free replacements and ask me to keep the damaged ones. VS themselves charge a flat rate $16 for international shipping, so it's only worthwhile ordering directly if there are several titles on my wish list. Their packaging is outstanding though, I have to say. If I have to wait a few more months to order Babyface, then it's no big deal. If VS release some must-have titles in the meantime, that'll make the decision much easier.
^ Do you know anyone in the States? I have family/friends who paypal money to me and have me ship stuff for them. Worth a shot. But I guess my family/friends weren't ordering porn...lol. I just got a couple of blus in the mail: TABOO IV and BLUE MONEY. Pretty excited for both.
It looks like VS will be releasing some of the "Lewis Brothers" movies in the future because they reunited Elliot and Harry Lewis for an interview. Elliot declined to be photographed/videoed since he works in mainstream movies so it will be in audio form I guess.
I sometimes use a mail forwarding company in the US for eBay sellers who won't ship internationally. I'll have to look into the cost and their policy on forwarding porn.
I didn't know that about Taboo 5, although that makes sense given it was a direct-to-video release. Hopefully VS will put out a DVD release of Taboo 5 then clean up the picture as best they can & release it with a ton of extras like the rest of the series. Absolutely agree, it really is a miracle, I have quite a few of VS' adult titles and I'm blown away by their restorations on Blu-ray the picture is just incredible I'm sure they haven't looked this good since their initial releases in theatres. I know VS ships internationally for a flat rate of $16 USD for as many titles as you like (if you order 1 title or 10 they'll both be $16 to ship) I've placed a couple orders with them ordering from Canada and it usually arrives very quickly.

Not a blu ray release but I was happy to be able to finally be able to watch Anthony Spinelli's NIGHT CALLER in a very good print. Like most early Spinelli it is very low budget but ambitious, with an odd but compelling performance from David Book. Monique Starr as his object of fascination is quite good and sexy too. As usual with Spinelli it is interesting how willing he is to represent bad sex, the forced sex scene in this film is not eroticized to the degree one usually sees, Monique is never portrayed as suddenly liking it. Another interesting aspect is how many scene of Book portray him as limp dicked and impotent. Particularly fascinating and indicative of both the era (early feature porn) and location (looks like San Fran to me) there is one scene that begins with a gender switching couple that is quite cool and sexy. The opening credits are terrific, the ending strong but I wouldn't put this in the top flight of Spinelli's pictures (there is one major contrivance in the plot for instance) but anyone who is a fan of his or early weirdo porn features with dark subject matter should definitely check it out.

I wouldn't say De Renzy's films are free of misogyny but the scat and rape is all faked. Not sure which rape scene in Femmes struck you as real, compared to many other roughies (Sex Wish, Appointment with Agony, Forced Entry) I found most the scenes of forced sex in Femmes less than convincing, which makes it work as a very black comedy to me. Annette Haven tells a great story about how De Renzy in shooting Femmes tried to get the women to piss on Ken Turner but she told the rest of the women that they didn't have to agree to it and he had to fake the watersports.

The scene you mention with Constance was shot for Opening of Misty Beethoven but is not in that film, it was included in Maraschino Cherry. I wouldn't want to belittle Constance's suffering but it is pretty clear that she didn't really enjoy working in pornography and shouldn't have been making films. Scenes that performers indicate their lines were crossed are certainly of concern and I won't usually knowingly watch such scenes myself, although they can be important as historical documents. Perhaps best to create a thread here in features though where we can discuss those cases rather than derail the VS thread.
Ummm, I might be mistaken, but for the record, I believe the bondage scene with Ms. Money was inserted into the end of Barbara Broadcast, not Maraschino Cherry (which did have a very hot dungeon scene with C.J. Laing, Annette Haven, and ... I think Gloria Leonard).
