| blackdragontea Senior Member 2322 Posts 2/05 | OK so this is just me having a bit too much time on my hand. Hopefully you find this entertaining. As much as people don't care about porn awards, they probably care even less about porn hall of fame. And they are right to not care: AVN inducts people into their Hall of Fame (HOF) every year, but they don't even maintain a website to keep track of the names. I have to resort to Wikipedia. Here's the full list where I'm I got the names. I got rid of all the men (sorry fellas I don't care about penis), and did my best to match up those female names with records on IAFD (in case of multiple women with the same or similar names, I typically go with the one with the most titles on IAFD). Since I only started watching porn in the late 1990s, I'm not familiar with those who came before, so apologies if I made any mistakes, and I'd welcome anyone more knowledgeable correcting me. Anyway, I ended up with 219 names. Using the Wikipedia list and IAFD, I created a spreadsheet and entered the year when they started, when they retired (if not retired, then the end year is 2024), the year when they were inducted into the HOF (though those who got in before 1995 generally had their induction year missing), and the number of their titles (I know many are compilations, but there's no easy way to subtract them). On average, these women have careers of 18 years, have 419 titles, and it takes them 16 years from their starting year to be inducted into HOF. Below I present you with some interesting "top 10s" (there are ties in many of these lists, so often there are more than 10 names in a list).
These are the ones who got the earliest starts, all of them before I was even born. I have heard of some of them (Marilyn Chambers, Annette Haven, Annie Sprinkle), but have not watched any of their films. Note that the latest starting year was 2007, meaning anyone who started in 2008 or later have not had a chance to be inducted yet. Phoenix Marie, Kristina Rose, Alexis Texas, Tori Black, and Rachel Starr all started in 2007, and were all inducted into the HOF in 2022. Also, sometimes AVN "reaches back" and inducts someone further back, so for example in 2024 they inducted Nikki Dial who started in 1992.
These are the ones with the longest careers (I simply subtracted the start year from the end year on IAFD). However, for most of them, by the last couple of decades of their career, they only appeared in compilations or non-sex roles. There is one exception though. Can you guess who?
These are the ones with the shortest careers. Topping the list is Bambi Woods from the famous "Debbie Does Dallas." There are some names that I'm familiar with since they started during the 1990s, but I'm surprised to realize how short their careers were: Kaitlyn Ashley and Nikki Dial.
This is calculated by subtracting the starting year from the induction year. For example, Ashlyn Gere started in 1990 and was inducted into the HOF in 1996, so it took her just 6 years (this was in fact before her end year of 2003). Keep in mind this list may not be correct, as the induction years for those who got in before 1995 were mostly missing. This one has a lot more 1990s names that I'm familiar with. It's interesting to note that Karen Dior, apparently a trans female performer and someone I'm completely ignorant of, was among the fastest inducted.
Here are the ones with the most titles according to IAFD. Again, as I already mentioned, these numbers include compilations. Also, Sinn Sage's numbers are problematic, as it includes a lot of manyvids titles, which arguably should not be considered the same as "normal" studio titles.
Here are the ones with the most "intense" careers, so to speak. Here you can clearly see just how far ahead India Summer is relative to everyone else. Also, it's interesting to see Kaitlyn Ashley in the top 10. Considering she is also on the "shortest career" list, hers is quite an impressive career: from 1993 to 1999, she had 395 titles.
My personal interest is lesbian porn, so here are the ones, among the 219 Hall of Famers, who are (mostly) g/g only performers (as far as I know). Charlotte Stokely did a lot of straight scenes during the first half of her career; during the second half, she only performed with other women. I'm including her here because she got so good at it and won a ton of awards. For example, from 2018 to 2022, she won 5 straight XRCO "Best Lesbian Performer of the Year" awards. In fact, by 2023, they just renamed the award to "Charlotte Stokely Girl/Girl Performer Of The Year Award." Janine also did more straight scenes later in her career, but during the years when she was a celebrated "Vivid Girl," she was a g/g only performer. Very interesting who got in over a short span of time. I know we can vote for yearly AVN awards, but has there ever been discussion about fans voting for HOF? If so I have a list ready to go and it starts with Mika Tan, Angel Kelly, Olivia O'Lovely and Sara Jay! VDRLvr |

| blackdragontea Senior Member 2322 Posts 2/05 | Angel Kelly and Sara Jay are already in HOF. See above: Angel is in the "shortest career" top 10, and Sara is in the "most titles" top 10. As for the other two, I just checked list and no, they are not in. Judging by sheer number of titles, they have enough. But I suspect there's a "hidden ingredient" -- people need to win AVN awards (or at least get nominations) to get in AVN HOF. If true, then it doesn't bode well for Olivia, since she has never even been nominated. Mika does have one nomination, so there is hope yet. I plan to get the award information from IAFD and update this list, and see if it's true that most HOF people have a lot of AVN awards. |
| blackdragontea Senior Member 2322 Posts 2/05 | As for Serene and Freya, I suspect both have a pretty good shot. They have both done a lot of scenes, and both have multiple AVN award nominations (Serene has even won one award). However, it's going to be a while before we'll know. As I mentioned previously, they have just voted in those who started in 2007. Serene started in 2013, so if we assume they go year by year, 2030 is the earliest they will consider her. Freya started in 2020, so a vote on her won't be held until 2037! |
| blackdragontea Senior Member 2322 Posts 2/05 | The problem is that IAFD doesn't treat the second, newer type of compilations as compilations. So I can't identify them and subtract them from total titles even if I want to (not without spending a completely impracticable amount of time, going through them literally title by title, scene by scene). |
| Polo900 Deactivated User 210 Posts 8/24 | The question is how on earth can pregnant Karla Kush trib Mona Wales be better than most girls these days. |
| blackdragontea Senior Member 2322 Posts 2/05 |
Anyway, for this present project, I'm working on adding award information to all the women of AVN Hall of Fame, and will present some new data that readers will hopefully find interesting. In the meantime, care to take some guesses? This is for everyone, not just Polo900. For example, who are the top three in terms of AVN awards nominations received, or awards won? Hint: the top spot belongs to the same woman, and it really shouldn't be hard to guess, since she leaves everyone else completely in the dust. The second and third places may be more difficult to guess. |

Belladonna: 13th in AVN nominations, 9th in wins Jessie Jane: 11th in AVN nominations, 11th in wins Nina Hartley: 16th in AVN nominations, 6th in wins Here's a hint for the the runaway winner: she's not from the US, and has a "double start" -- in the early 2000s, she started appearing in some porn in her native country, then moved to the US in the 2010s and steamrolled everyone. As I mentioned previously, this HOF list in general only contains those who started in or before 2007, but she's the exception due to this unusual "double start." Well, this is pretty much giving it away 😁 Edited by - blackdragontea on 9/7/2024 11:46:54 AM |
| alphadachs Member 475 Posts 3/10 | Great work on this and thanks for putting together such a fascinating page. I love this kind of research. Umm, I really shouldn't nitpick, then, but since I consider Georgina Spelvin to be one of the (if not THE) greatest performers ever, I couldn't help but notice that the picture you use to illustrate her isn't the wonderful Georgina. Sorry! |

I thought since they listed Georgina's name first, it must be her on the cover. Guess not. 😮 So is that Helen Madigan? Is this Georgina?

Well of course I've seen that tiny low-res IAFD photo. I'm trying to find something bigger and higher resolution, and ideally matches what she looks like when she was actively making movies. That's why I've been using box cover art. Wait...
Is this she? It would be pretty effed up if they put her name front and center in fancy font, and put another woman's image on the cover. |

In terms of wins I guess Riley Reid can be realistically expected to be in the top 3, I'll also throw in Adriana Chechik who has to be in the top 5 at least. *Edit- although if we are talking about Hall of Famers then I really have no idea

Georgina is slightly before my time. The first porn names I remember fixating on were Annette Haven (at least until I discovered facials) and Veronica Hart. Georgina and Leslie Bovee, to name another, escaped my notice. |
| blackdragontea Senior Member 2322 Posts 2/05 |
Riley and Adriana are not in the HOF yet, as they started after starting 2007, which is the last year AVN voted on (meaning nobody who started their career after 2007 had gotten in yet). Use the wikipedia link I provided the original post to see the full list of all Hall of Famers. |

As far as you can see, are there any other mistakes that I made? |

Going over the list it was nice to see some old favourites like Kimberly Kane & Asa Akira on there. However it was pretty ridiculous that there's fucking Sunny Lane on that list but no London Keyes or Lauren Phoenix (a literal Female POTY) |

She was also in that Wicked remake of Devil in Miss Jones from the mid 2000s starring another Hall of Famer - Savannah Samson, which is where I first witnessed Miss Spelvin. |

| blackdragontea Senior Member 2322 Posts 2/05 | Originally I had intended to put up some new stats about AVN nominations and wins among the hall of famers, but it turns out IAFD is a pretty bad source! They have a lot of missing information, when compared to AI Awards. I double checked with AVN's own individual press releases, and "AI Awards" appears to be much more reliable. So I'll have to re-do my numbers. Apologies about the delay. |

| blackdragontea Senior Member 2322 Posts 2/05 | First, as I've mentioned, AVN does not maintain a list of its own Hall of Famers. It also doesn't maintain a list award nominees or winners over the years. Adult Industry Awards Database (aiwards.com), it seems to me, maintains a pretty good list of these awards, so I will use it as the primary source for AVN wins scored by each actress. However, this database does not say anything about nominations, so I'm using IAFD as a source for that. But IAFD misses quite a few of them, so the numbers on nominations are definitely undercounts, though I don't know by how much. Basically, you should regard the "win" numbers as pretty reliable, and the "nomination" numbers as reasonable approximations at best. In addition, some women also direct. I want to look at acting nominations and awards, so I have subtracted all directing nominations and awards from the count. In any event, there are only 3 women who have directed a significant number of videos. I will treat them separately. Lastly, when counting wins, I don't include being inducted into the HOF itself as a win.
These are the Hall of Famers who have received the most AVN nominations (but again, like I said previously, these are certainly undercounts). Now, you may say, hmm, where are the stars of 70s and 80s? Or even the 90s? All but two of these started their careers during the period of 2000-2007 (2007 is the latest starting year for women on the current HOF list). The two exceptions are Jessica Drake who started in 1999, and Julia Ann who started in 1992. The answer is that there has been a massive awards inflation. But I'll get to that later.
These are the top 10 when it comes to actually winning awards, and these numbers are much more reliable than the nominations. The sheer dominance of Angela White is just mind-boggling, but really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who have been paying attention to porn. I must say I expected Belladonna to be higher, and was not expecting Joanna Angel and Chloe to be this high on the list. Does any of the women here surprise you?
But let's shake things up a bit. Instead of absolute number of awards, how about we divide them by the number of titles then multiply by 100? Now these are some very unexpected results. The mighty Angela White, shockingly, lost her crown to Alisha Klass, and by a pretty convincing margin. Alisha did a mere 73 videos (including quite a few compilations) during 1997-2002, but won 5 AVN awards! Asa Akira completely tumbles out of the top 10 (she's at 12th place), but Jenna Jameson maintains her 3rd place, though she barely lost out 2nd place to Angela. Quite a few other stars from the 90s show up. Most surprising to me is Janine, a mostly g/g only performer (though to be fair, one of her seven AVN wins was for a b/g scene she did late in her career in 2007). There's even an 80s star here, Careena Collins, who started in her career in 1985. One explanation for this is the significant increase of porn in the 2000s, which increases the denominators for those who started their careers at that time, such as Asa Akira (2006), Joanna Angel (2005), Tori Black (2007), and Alexis Texas (2007). This turns out to be sufficient to pull them out of the top 10. Even Angela White is not immune to this effect. Savanna Samson (2000) and Jessie Jane (2002) did start in the 2000s, but they had unusually low number of titles, 170 and 234, respectively. I will go more into the details about the statistics in the next part. Edited by - blackdragontea on 9/9/2024 10:26:47 AM |

Also, the initial ranking of Nina Hartley (7th place in wins) I gave you was wrong. She's not in the top 10. See the numbers in my pics for the correct top 10. Jessie Jane had just 7 AVN wins, which was not enough to place her high in terms of absolute wins. But she got those 7 wins with just 234 titles, which was quite low. So as shown, her win per title is very high at 8th place (among 219 Hall of Famers). |
| blackdragontea Senior Member 2322 Posts 2/05 |
As far as preference of the "crowd," keep in mind that AVN awards are mostly voted on by industry insiders (there are some "fan awards" in recent years). The AVN winners are not necessarily those most popular with viewers. For example, Pornhub puts out an annual "Insight" report every year since at least 2014. During the 2010s, Lisa Ann was consistently one of the most searched for pornstars in the world, often top 3, rarely out of top 10. Sure, she's in the AVN Hall of Fame. But she has won just 2 AVN awards despite almost 1000 titles. |
| Pete Zaface Senior Member 3064 Posts 8/03 | Regardless of whether you're talking fans or insiders, few of the selectees would be on my list of ATFs. From AVN's female performer of the year list, per Wikipedia, the following awardees do not have a place in my collection: Debi Diamond Nor do Annette Haven, Lisa de Leeuw, Savannah, Chasey Lane, Jenna Jameson .... I'm not saying I haven't wasted some calories polishing my knob to some of these, just that my preferences don't run to the most popular, most "glamorous," or most likely to be found in a circus. |
| blackdragontea Senior Member 2322 Posts 2/05 | First, has she received a Female Performer of the Year (POTY) award? If so, her chances are very good. From 1984 to 2024, 41 such awards were handed out. There have been not repeat winners except Angela White (3) and Tori Black (2). So there are 38 individual winners. If we exclude those who started in 2008 or later (2007 is apparently the latest starting year to have been voted on in terms of HOF admission), there are 30 POTY winners who could have gotten in. Only 5 have failed: Pamela Mann (1985 winner), Colleen Brennan (1987), Krista Lane (1988), Lauren Pheonix (2005), and Bobbi Starr (2012). Miss Munchausen brought up Lauren (starting year 2003) before, but I have no answer as to why she's not in. The same could have been asked about Bobbi (starting year 2006). Still, all hope is not lost. In 2024, they voted in Desiree West (starting year 1974), Nikki Dial (1992), Shay Sights (1998), Audrey Hollander (2002), Sinn Sage (2002), and Hillary Scott (2004). So in the future Lauren and Bobbi could be inducted. Second, has she received any AVN awards, or at least nominations? In the old days, before "awards inflation," it's possible to get in HOF with few or even no awards or nominations. This has become much rarer in recent years. This is what I mean by "awards inflation." This shows how many award categories there are in every year's AVN awards.
In 1984, there were a mere 18 categories. By 2024, there were 124. To be fair, the increase is not linear, and the total has steadied around 120 over recent years. Nevertheless, this partly explains why recent stars have so many more AVN nominations and awards relative to the stars of the 70s, 80s, and even the 90s.
Above you can see how, over time, those who got in the HOF are recipients of more and more AVN nominations and awards. For those who started in the second half of the 2000s and got in the HOF, on average they received more than 20 nominations and won almost 5 awards. Here's another way of looking at it.
Many of those who started in the 1970s and 80s and got in the HOF did not get any AVN nominations or awards. But for those who started in the 2000s and got in, almost all of them had at least got some nominations, and almost 80% had won at least one AVN award. Third, has she done enough videos? As you may have expected, those who have done few videos are not favored. But how many is enough?
There's no single answer, since the standards have changed - the early 2000s spike, driven by gonzo, digital camera and DVD, is real. Stars of the 90s got in with just three or four hundred titles, but those in the 2000s on average approached 800! Given this upward trend in titles and AVN wins, does this mean newer girls will need even more of these to get in? She probably doesn't need many more titles, but will need more AVN awards. Here are the 8 most recent AVN Female Performer of the Year winners who have started their career after 2007 so probably have not yet been voted on in terms of induction to HOF (the 2018-2020 gap is occupied by Angela White who already got in). I've also listed their titles and AVN wins.
By virtue of being POTYs, they are very likely to get in HOF. On average, they have 873 titles and won 11 AVN awards. So if your girl has numbers similar to those, her chances are very good. If she is far from these numbers, it doesn't look good. One thing to note: Bonnie Rotten stands out among the 8 above in a bad way, as she has far fewer titles and wins, so her chances are not as good as the other 7. |
| Miss Munchausen Deactivated User In the Realm of the Senses 323 Posts 6/24 | One metric I believe that should be considered for potential Hall of Famers in the future is - whether a pornstar at least made it to the POTY nominees list multiple times. There are a multitude of women from the likes of AJ Applegate to Maddy O'Reilly to Carter Cruise to Aidra Fox from the last decade to even Rebeca Linares & Brianna Love from the 2000s who never won POTY but IMO are definite shoe-ins for the list (unless they are done dirty like Lauren Phoenix & Bobbi Starr). Also it would be nice to see some predominantly European stars like Amirah Adara, Misha Cross, Alexis Crystal or Cherry Kiss get some recognition from the Hall of Fame in the future. These women are far more deserving of being on that list than fucking Jesse Jane (RIP) & the 2 Sunnys (Lane & Leone) - I like them but seriously in what universe are such one trick ponies (to put it kindly) better performers than a London Keyes or a Brianna Love or a Lauren Phoenix from an objective standpoint? It truly boggles my mind. Sorry for going off but the more I think about such omissions the more arbitrary & random some of the names in that list appears to me. |

| blackdragontea Senior Member 2322 Posts 2/05 | When compiling the numbers for AVN nominations (again, these are undercounts) and wins, it occurred to me many on the HOF list have either one or no AVN awards despite numerous nominations. So here are what I call "Hard Luck" and "Finally Made It" lists.
There are quite a few MILF performers on here (or at least they have become MILFs over the years). Arguably the hardest of the hard luck girl is Sara Jay. Of those who have the Top 10 most titles, she is the only one to not have an AVN award. It is possible that they are put in HOF precisely as a consolation price.
The trials and tribulations of Dana Dearmond are so grueling that it's almost funny. That's right, 34 nominations (at least) and just 1 win! It's in the category of "Best Girl/Girl Sex Scene" with Belladonna in the 2012 movie "Belladonna: The Sexual Explorer." As a fan of g/g porn, I'm relieved to see all 6 (mostly) g/g only performers in the HOF I mentioned earlier (Sinn Sage, Celeste Star, Charlotte Stokely, Jelena Jensen, Felicia, and Janine) won at least one AVN award, with Celeste and Jelena squeaking in at one win. Lastly, I mentioned there are some women who have directed a significant number of movies/videos, and have a large number of AVN directing nominations or awards. These are not the only ones who have directed, only those who have done so to a significant degree.
Kayden Kross has had an OK career as an actress among Hall of Famers. Her titles are on the low side (just 304), many AVN nominations (31, one of the top 10 most nominated), but just 3 wins. As a director, however, she dominates. If we add her directing wins to her acting wins, she would have been tied with Jenna Jameson at 3rd place in terms of most AVN wins, behind only Angela White and Asa Akira. Joanna Angel, on the other hand, is snubbed hard. Can you imagine getting nominated for 23 times (at least, keep in mind the nomination numbers I take from IAFD are very likely undercounts) and not getting even one win? The same is true for Dana Vespoli to a lesser extent. Lastly, aclayfan mentioned "star power" in a reply. I sort of understand that term in a vague way. But the only "objective" way to quantify it would be, it seems to me, sales number (just like in non-adult movies, "stars" are those whose presence on the billing sell tickets). Below are the Top 10 bestselling DVDs of all time on Adult Empire.
Jenna Jameson, Jesse Jane, Tera Patrick, Stormy Daniels, all Hall of Famers. These are one showing up front and center on the cover again and again. Particularly Jesse Jane, for some reason. Also, aclayfan specifically mentioned Sunny Leone. On a whim, I entered her name into google trends, alongside a few other big names.
Can someone tell me WTF happened around 2011-2012? 😄😄😄 This is insane! |

| blackdragontea Senior Member 2322 Posts 2/05 | Speaking of Penthouse, here are all the Pets of the Year. It's interesting that by the 2010s and 2020s, pretty much all of them are in porn, whereas during the 2000s when Sunny won, this was not yet universal. Polo900 earlier asked about if I thought Serene Siren and Freya Parker could get in HOF. Now I'm in a better position to say. Among all women, the standard is probably around 600-700 titles, about 20 AVN nominations, and half a doze or so wins. Among g/g performers -- if we just average the numbers for Celeste Star, Charlotte Stokely, and Jelena Jensen -- it's 646 titles, 14 nominations, and 2 wins. As things stand now: Serene Siren: 288 titles, 10 AVN nominations, 1 win So if they retire now, neither is likely to get in. If they double their videos, nominations, and get 1 or 2 more wins, they stand a good chance. One more name for we g/g fans: the sainted Malena Morgan, hallowed be her name -- 244 titles, 2 nominations, 0 wins -- is not getting in 😥 |
