^^^ and ^^ I would never call for YouTube to begin censoring comments, just like I would never call for Adult DVD Talk to give up moderation (and if they did give it up, I'd give up the site). If people want to build websites where comments are unmoderated, they can have at it. I won't ask for those sites to change, but I'll typically avoid reading discussions at those sites. For example, I'm very selective when it comes to reading the comments sections of videos on YouTube nowadays because I don't want to scroll through 50 heavily upvoted comments calling the uploader ugly, a whore, etc. before I finally get to something worth reading. I tend to prefer the quality of moderated discussions. On the subject of debates, it's extremely rare for me to have online debates outside of this site. I used to debate online regularly in the past, but after a certain point I found that it had become a waste of time and energy for me. My impression is that when people disagree on serious subjects (I'm not talking about art and entertainment, which is all a matter of subjective opinion), what they are typically disagreeing about is epistemology. Debates that ignore that and stay on the surface level can be engaging, fun, etc., and obviously I continue to occasionally debate here, but ultimately I don't find engaging in surface level debates to be especially valuable to me beyond just being a way to pass the time. Unfortunately, I don't have the energy or patience to delve deep in an online debate, even though 9 times out of 10 imo it's epistemology that is what really needs to be discussed.

If people are convinced of the truth of false conspiracies, that too is an epistemological problem. Nonetheless, people typically debate the claims, not the epistemology.
