Well I slogged through this three-hour-plus marathon over the course of the last few days, and I'm disappointed again. I'm starting to think that the bigger a comedy gets, the harder it is to be funny (I didn't appreciate Hercules much, either). I think Jonathan Morgan would be better off taking his $200,000 budget from these bloated epics and making five Cupid's Arrows.

You have to be spry in comedy, and I think worrying about effects, costumes and fancy sets just weighs things down. Or maybe that's a coincidence and the script just happened to be lame.

The costumes were a little distracting as well. Randy Spears' robot getup was pretty cool-looking, but this is the first time I ever thought Devinn Lane looked unappealing, and a lot of the other wigs and makeup were unflattering. The cheap blue paint job on Jessica Drake pretty much sucked... and the idea is a little flawed. Rebecca Romijn Stamos looked hot as Mystique in X-Men, sure, but if she were doing hardcore, she'd still look a hundred times better as herself.

On the plus side, the commentary is pretty great (highlight: Stormy cattily ripping Katie Morgan), and the picture-in-picture feature became worthwhile when Stormy got naked and eventually gave herself a little impromptu finger DP and ATM at the end.

My favorite feature on the Hercules and Space Nuts DVDs is the audition reel. It just seems like a funny concept for porn... having these women do cold readings of the script. It's kind of amazing that as bad as some of the acting is, it really is the best of the best. Some of the audition performances are hilariously bad (highlight: several girls in a row pronouncing Ensign Benson "N-sine Benson"). It's the only really funny thing on these discs.

Ah, comedy. Wasn't it Chuck Jones who said the difference between a laugh and a groan is about a second?

I'm in the middle of the movie, and so far think it's on par for becoming Jonathan's funniest movie. So far I'd say that the plot and acting are about a 5 while the sex is about a 4.
