White today awarded Io Group, Inc., parent company of gay adult producer Titan Media, $418,500.00 in damages for online copyright infringement of its property by Timothy J. Ward on his websites www.Sobe-cfg.com and www.Sobear.com. Judge White awarded Titan Media $209,250.00 for the copyright infringement of 279 images illegally published by Ward on his websites, and an additional $209,250.00 for violations of Rights of Publicity for the same images. The total award of $418,500.00 for the 279 photographic images represents an award of $1500.00 for each of the images that were illegally published. “We are extremely pleased with this large award by the courts,” said Keith Webb, Vice President of Titan Media. “But we are even more pleased that this judgment continues to amplify our warning to online thieves: If you steal from Titan, you will get caught and you will pay the price.” This judgment is the result of Titan Media’s continued campaign to bring to an end the wholesale pilfering of on-line adult materials. While this case highlights the potential liability of major operations, even small-time infringers should beware. Titan Media demands compensation every time someone uses its valuable content. Titan Media has not hesitated to file Federal lawsuits against companies caught stealing even a single photograph. Titan Media hopes other adult content producers will follow their lead and protect their on-line assets. The matter was heard in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and was entitled Io Group, Inc. v. Timothy J. Ward, C-03-5285 (JSW). Keith Webb
