One of the valuable things about the behind-the scenes footage in porn videos is that it brings me up short with seemingly obvious -- but sometimes subconsciously denied --reality that what I’ve just watched is not a “documentary” but rather a collection of “performances” of conceived, staged, edited (to more and lesser degrees) scenes.

What I’m wondering about today is the “more and lesser” of it all, as performers experience it. Will those of you performers who post on this message board share your thoughts, experiences, and/or reactions about the ways in which the presence of the camera and the crew affects your experience of sex? Is it exciting? Is it distancing? Is it entirely different from sex in your personal life, or is there some continuity?

Please don’t feel limited by these questions. If they’re stupid questions, please forgive me.

Thanks for sharing if you do!

I doubt that many of us are all that conscious of the things you mentioned; rather, we have sex and go home!

Dave, I appreciate your response; I also go home when my work day is over. Still, my job (like any other) engenders feelings and reactions of various kinds based upon the nature of my work and the people I work with. In starting this topic, I was hoping to get a window into the perspectives of performers.

Based on your response, I suppose my next question would be, "If you're not immediately conscious of any of those things that I mentioned, what (if anything) comes to mind upon further reflection?"

Shame. I thought this was a genuinely intriguing avenue of discussion. I'd love to know how a porn star relates to the presence of a camera - do they see it as a seducer? A voyeur? A lover? Does it make them slightly self-conscious, or does it unlock something inside their psyche? Are there ways of 'working' the camera (in the way that Monroe mastered way back when) - or is it, as Dave seems to suggest, just a fuck?

I think the problem is the personal nature of the questions.

I have always felt that just because stars share with us on-camera sex, doesn't mean they need to share with us their off-camera experiences. I may be totally wrong, but I would imagine that even porn stars would like some kind of "personal life" when it comes down to sex & feelings.

I also think that a large portion of the adult industry sees what they do as a "job". I mean for sure you wouldn't make it far in the industry if you got emotionally attached to your co-workers.

I also don't see gonzo porn as being "intimate" etc.

I think dave was being honest when he said "fuck and go home".
