Erotic art or sophisticated porn? You decide. In either case Tom Bianchi has an eye for the male physique and its raw, sexual energy which he has captured in numerous books including his “On The Couch” series which started out as an internet project, spawned two books and has now been capture on film in this 2 volume DVD collection.

The infamous couch was brought to Tom’s home by his lover BJ and is used as the centerpiece for the men to explore their sexuality and themselves. According to Tom the men have never been professionally photographed before and are not models, although any one of them certainly could be. They’ve come from all over the world and in volume 1 the shoot is set in San Francisco and features a couple with an open relationship, a couple of solo shoots, and one involving a three-way which was actually an overbooking on that particular day. Tom briefly interviews each participant before the shoot and there are extended interviews as part of the “extras” found on the DVD. Although gorgeous to watch, with nudity and oral sex a plenty, I wish the segments were edited down a bit and more had been included. It seemed to get a bit monotonous at times and found myself reaching for the remote. After enjoying his photographs so much I did get slightly disillusioned with the whole concept when Tom actually participates in his subjects self exploration and becomes an active participant and it turned me off slightly. It’s like watching a sculptor begin fondling his model. I much prefer the mystique of the photographs.

Disc 2 is set in Toronto and has a total of seven segments, one including a Canadian television personality who doesn’t want his penis shown, a guy who has a fondness for underwear, including a Jesus pair in which he climaxes into, and a number of others, all hot, hung, and horny and ready to do anything for the camera.

There is no penetration but the shoots do include plenty in the way of foreplay, nudity and oral. The DVD’s audio is stereo and features a nice soundtrack that would’ve been more enjoyable in 5:1 but its ok, and the video is nicely shot with various subtle effects imposed on during the shoot. The DVD extras feature photo galleries and extended interviews with Tom as well as his subjects. With only a few minor personal gripes of my own, “On the Couch” is a rather beautiful coffee table book come to life and is a great companion piece to his publications.

Thanks for the review netguy! I guess my main problem with the movie was that it was practically screaming "I'm a photographer, not a pornographer!" Face the facts Tom, this is porn. It's relatively soft-corish and heavily artsy-fartsy, but it's still porn, and damn it, I want to see penetration!

I love the 2 books, though, and I'll keep buying those if he puts out more volumes.
