Anyone have any experience, or DOs and DONTs for carrying porn in electronic form on your person when traveling abroad. I.e. do certain countries confiscate it if found on a laptop during a bag search in the airport?

I am going off to tour Australia soon, for about 6 months, then off to Southeast Asia, crossing into and out of various countries - Thailand etc. I will be carrying my portable media player (an Archos AV500, like an iPod Video but bigger) and I have converted some of my favourite porn DVDs into files stored on the player. So I won't have any magazines or original DVD discs that would be visibly obvious - it's just the files on the player (that are not particularly obvious).

I've heard that porn is a No-No for certain countries - anyone had their player or laptop searched for this?

If you're going to Southeast Asia you will find yourself in several countries where porn is illegal and yes, they might want to look at your files. I wouldn't risk it.

Come on, lets be realistic here, how many people carry lap tops through those asain countries ??...it is not possible for them to request to look at the files on your lap top.

Besides, you can also just use the "hide" option to hide the files.

I don't think it's a problem unless they catch you viewing it.

+1, Australia would be fine, but in South East Asia I really wouldn't risk it if I were you.

Thanks for your thoughts, guys. I will probably keep the vids on my player while in Oz, and then delete them before I arrive somewhere that porn is illegal. May be I'll find other things to entertain me while I'm away!

Although I did think about maybe renaming the files from Movie.avi to file43.dat or somesuch, so that they wouldn't be recognised as movie files in Windows.
