Does anyone know of a web site where I can simply select the kind of computer I have and it will tell me the kind of RAM I need? Coz I really haven't a clue.

For one thing, even after turning off indexing, the hard disk just kept continuously churning away. This just can't be good. If for no other reason than wear and tear on the hard drive. OK. So they're much cheaper than they used to be but I don't wanna drop $150 for a new hard drive every year or two. Another thing. I was getting all kinds of crashes, hands, freezes and blue screens. WTF? I noticed the someone mentioned a service called Superfetch. I remembered getting multiple messages that "Superfetch has stopped working" (Nice and helpful, eh?). So I went looking for it. And I finally found it under Adminsitrative Tools. So I disabled that fucker and boom! The hard drive stopped churning and I haven't had a crash or a freeze since. I think the main problem is that my system doesn't have enough RAM for the kinds of stuff I like to do and Superfetch caching to peacefully coexist. I'm not a techie but if that fixes it for now, Superfetch stays off until I can afford to buy a couple more gigs of Ram. I take no responsibility for if anyone else turns off Superfetch and their computer goes into orbit or something. Just posting what worked for me. And kinda wondering if anyone else turned it off also? I know it helps programs load marginally faster. I don't really care about that. I can wait a few more milliseconds. [Link] |
