For me it's only further confirmation that deciding (ahead of time, mind) not to renew my membership was the right decision - that sort of casting. I do my very best to find and purchase memberships to sites that do not feature Legal Porno talent, as if I wanted that talent and that aesthetic, I know where to get it. I don't, that's why I am not there and go to (as of last counting, close to forty different websites over the past two years) other websites to try and find casting that doesn't feature LP veterans. That upcoming casting is continuing the trend and it's for that reason I am letting my membership run out.
VMG, Tushy, please consider finding non-LP veterans from Europe for your casting, please.

^ Casting definitely has a direct effect on brand perception (Vixen was like HBO of porn when it started out). Even the male talent and where they have worked matters. I recall how they brought a new stud for Elsa's showcase. Lansky had Jean Val Jean, handsome guy, quite mainstream now.

It's tough for TUSHY in europe because if a girl is willing to do anal, she will usually shoot for Legalporno too, and Legalporno is a big player in europe (they contract out a lot of producers).
I'm guessing - and VMG can come here and correct me - is that it's not worth it for them to do big anal exclusives and anal firsts anymore, especially in Europe, unless it's a major major girl.

You know, fit18, the same thing applies for trueanal on the American side. If a girl has multiple trueanal scenes she is unlikely to get a call back from vixen. For example, Gianna Dior's anal scene are hyped but Emily Willis are not. But a better example would be girls like Liz Jordan and Lily Lou. More popular than Liya Silver going by raw numbers but unlikely to be invited back.
Ah, True Anal is a great example you brought up to look at the economics. Years ago, TUSHY was known for anal firsts and anal exclusives. True Anal caught wind of the strategy and started offering girls anal exclusive contracts much like what TUSHY was doing, but TUSHY didn't find it worth it to compete because True Anal had more wiggle room.
Tushy's production costs before model fee, are $5k-$10k. True Anal's are $1-$2k. Therefore, True Anal is able to outbid TUSHY on getting exclusive rights. The exclusive anal rights could be anywhere from 6 to 12 months. And anal takes a toll on a girl. After 6-12 months, a girl may decide not to do anal anymore or even stay in the business. The exclusive contracts are why you don't see many True Anal girls on TUSHY and vice versa.
The original purpose of Julia's team was to lower those production costs.

It's very intriguing what you say. I think there is certainly some truth in it.
However, I find myself asking - why, then, do Julia's shoots take place outdoors and involve helicopters et cetra, and why do American scenes look budget deprived. If you could shed light on that, it would be great. Does budget reduction refer to outdoor shoots in Europe being cheaper, or something like that?
I apologize to the mods for segwaying a bit but the following example from VIXEN is helpful:
When they get a shot like Girls' Day Out illustrated above, they are supposed to get permits for filming and the helicopter flying so low, IF it is even allowed. Pretty much whenever you shoot outside or a public place in america, you got to get a permit. That adds time and costs. If you catch a landmark or building in the background, you also have to get permission or pay a fee. Meanwhile, you can shoot the Eiffel tower in the background during the day - the key here being daytime - and don't need permission, so you can get nice shots like this:
Legally, you are only allowed to shoot porn in California, and with California's high real estate costs, you can imagine how expensive it is to rent a location, get the permits, and pay all the fees. They can't pack up and shoot at a resort in Utah :P
While in Europe, you can shoot porn almost anywhere and location owners are more accommodating to porn.
The bulk of the productions still occur in the US, and with 7 sites, that means less money per scene. Julia is also an agent, so there may be deals worked out with the models for the cachet of working for a big brand like VMG. Julia's filming crew is also probably less expensive compared to California employees that have to pay high taxes and ask for high salaries. Taken together, it adds up to European productions costing less despite getting shots of the Eiffel tower, or in snowy resorts.

I think it gives extra flair to those few shoots that are shot in US.
I hope these shoots do not go extinct. Extra effort for few scenes is better than scaling down to make things even and consistent. This shoot with Nancy was filmed in US and Europe.
Little Caprice not working for other productions now she only works for LittleCapricedreams so dont think any more scenes for vixen group will happy now and she says she only works for her own production now
^ I would like that across the vmg line. I enjoy Julia's directing the most and would love to see her film some American talents.

^^ Same. It is crazy how many of us are in perfect agreement on this thread. I think it's time for top AVN winners at the very least, to go on a European vacation with Julia.
That Derek Dozer and Laurent Sky share equipment and photographers sealed their deal. Having to shoot indoors is one thing, but also vixen doesn't have a good resort the girls and won't rent one. The latest vixen update was terrible.

Are you certain of your production cost for the bulk of Tushy videos because that seems like a very very high number to me? Especially if you don't count model fee? I'm willing to believe that their production cost are higher than TA but then again the finish product tends to prove that but 4-5 times more is really hard to believe. Now if you tell me that some of their videos are in the 5-10K range than that's okay but not if you tell me for the bulk.
I completely believe you as to why they went the Julia/European route because few European women can hope to earn the kind of money most of their North American counterpart can for a first anal and I suspect that even the amounts paid for anal in Europe is lower than in the US making it a very worth while business decision for any company looking to make more money ny hiring talent at a lower cost. It doesn't hurt that most European models tend to do anal almost on day one negating the need for a studio to wait months if not years to get a newbie to do anal.
Unlikely to happen because it would add a shitload of cost to a scene that ultimately doesn't need it. Let's be honest. While setting the scene outdoor adds a modicum of difference from those being shot indoors. How many of us really care once the sex starts and how many remember the setting as opposed to the what the performers did on screen?
The model fee isn't that much. $1200-$1500. So if the production cost is $5k, then final total of $6.5k is in your ballpark. When I wanted to produce in LA, everyone was quoting me $500-$1000/4 hours - not per day - just for location of someone's house. A cameraman would be $500. The sound guy would be $300. Makeup is $200-$300 but that can ratchet up depending on how many hours she needs to be on-set and touchups required.
You save a ton of money if you are your own producer, cameraman, and sound guy. You let the girl do her own makeup. And you shoot in a room in your own house over and over. :)

I don't usually watch full video. I love great sizzle reel and intro pictures. Last time I watched a full video was Pipe Dream 2. On Tushy it was Psychosexual 2. On vixen it was 24 Hours (last update).
If the scene is not shot outdoors then it is cheap. There ends the discussion.
I guess it depends on what they offer them, more than actual costs. A flight to Europe is $1k. A hotel room in Paris will cost the same whether it is an american or a russian.
BUT when they are in Europe, they are away from friends, family, and potentially lose out on jobs they would have more consistently in the US. When a girl is in Hungary, she might go a week without shooting for anyone for example. (and be away from their "regulars" or sugar daddies if they have one).
When there is work, they can earn a bit more. Nearly everyone pays in cash in europe.
However, after Alexa Flexy another pass for me. Alexa Flexy and Lara Frost have done plenty of anal scenes for LegalPorno and PornWorld ...
To date the casting of Julia Grandi's production in Italy is pretty delusional! And still no Scarlett Jones scene not only on Tushy but in any VMG websites

I understand that. I'll still check this one even though I skipped last one. I think the highlight of these shoots will be Marie Berger. Scarlett won't come out come out till September or later if it is a showcase they are going all in on (and I'd be happy to wait).

This is false. Porn can be shot basically anywhere in the US, but the talent is predominantly in California, especially Los Angeles. Bang Bros. and Reality Kings are based in Miami, and Kink.com is in Las Vegas, to name a few. Hell, Nica Noelle shot her gay movies in her house in Maine.
Let me be clearer about this. California and New Hampshire are the only two states where it is court-tested and 100% legal. The other states are in a grey area because over-riding obscenity laws can run you afoul if a prosecutor doesn't like you for whatever reason.
The main issue is paying someone to perform a sex act. That can be considered prostitution. The second problem is the Mann act - if you bring a girl to another state to perform a sex act, that's breaking the law.
