I understand the privacy thing completely, i've seen some girls posting about relationship problems and even deceased relatives. I thought that was over the top for her family just because she wants to be completely open to her fans doesn't mean her family would want that out there.
I don't think many of the porn girls use twitter as a "soundboard for negativity" though surely some of them do.
I think twitter is like anything else, some people will handle it well and some do not. Most of them are in the middle somewhere. As a fan it is very easy to unfollow porngirls who i am a fan of if they are annoying on twitter. I will contintue to be a fan in most cases.
I also think that twitter CAN help add to a fan base. I've become fans of a few girls by finding out about them on twitter.
The girls who have fun with it, make jokes, BS with fans are the ones who get it. The girls who bicker and only post "amazon this...appearance that...inspirational message with #TRUTH next to it..." just don't get it.

I also agree that if they can't take negative comments they should be on there. If you have 10, 20, 50,000 followers a good chunk of them will be assholes, just ignore thier comments and they will stop making them out of boredom. Give them attention and they will fuck with you forever.

I remember reading a "male pornstar's" tweet about Banging a young/newbie girl in the ass and then went on to talk about the Thai food they had after filming the scene. Talk about killing the fantasy. He went on and on about the food and the sex got 1 line. I knew i was learning to much.
The beauty of porn for me is the sex is sex. I dont have to get to know the girl first and put up with all of the relationship building crap. But when I start learning more about some of these girls the more turned off I tend to get. I guess I want my porn to be shallow. Save the deep stuff for real life.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That being said, I did use it once to get one of my favorite girls a gig in a matter of hours. She tweeted she was available but not w/ an agency, I tweeted a director I followed, He called her and booked her. The next day she thanked me. I own that scene and its xtra hot knowing I played a small part. None of this could had happend any other way.

I don't think Twitter builds a fanbase but I think with certain girls it can be a tool to keep her fanbase interested and informed. It may not lead directly to more bookings but for certain girls using it to keep fans informed and happy can help in their career. If the girl is doing an appearance it's a quick and easy way to let fans who may show up know about it. If the girl becomes known for attracting a big crowd at signings she'll get more signings and more money for them. If the girl is stripping being able to let the right fans know can be the difference between a good night and a great one finacially. If a girl is in a contest and needs votes it's nice to be able to tell so many fans at once to vote for her. It's also possible that if she wants to work with a director/performer/studio she could rally her fans to le those people know. Which is why I say it's not a good thing to risk turning those fans off or against her by tweeting things that might turn those fans away. Pornstars should follow the Hollywood model of tweeting where they aren't tweeting stuff that puts them in a bad light with fans or upsets people/fans over silly stuff. Twitter can be a useful tool if used properly.
I still have no desire to follow anyone or even sign up for Twitter but I can see how it could be used in useful ways.

I don't think there's a "one size fits all" answer to the devaluation aspect. Some guys may think that knowing more about the personal side (flaws and all) makes a pornstar more "real" and more than a mystery fantasy girl and makes her more appealling. I'm not into the Twitter thing but I enjoy seeing the girls be themselves in the Behind The Scenes stuff or in interviews or even posting on messageboards. There are lots of performers I've liked even more after seeing them be themselves. It actually enhanced my enjoyment when watching them do their sexbot performances. On the other hand, some people just want the fantasy sexbot and nothing else.

^ i'm in the same opinion. I really enjoy seeing the girls and how they are when they aren't shooting scenes and around the industry, doing whatever it is they do in their down time. Through twitter i've found Caroline Pierce's love for table top gaming and other such activities. Just an example.

^Yeah hard to believe that porn performers have lives. I think your suggestion is the best and people should avoid Twitter. I know that I do because I don't give a rats ass what anyone is doing and that includes porn or mainstream performers. I think private lives should be exactly that...Private.

If a person is the type who can't handle perhaps seeing their fav pornstar in a bad light or is too sensative and thin skinned to reading what they think is negative or wants to think of pornstars as sexbots they should avoid twitter. However, if a person accepts that pornstars/celebs are just normal human beings that are sometimes (very) flawed, there's nothing wrong with following someone on twitter. Private lives don't have to be private all the time. Some parts of a private life can be fun to share.
It's my opinion that some pornstars should put a bit more thought into what they tweet sometimes, avoid fights with fans and keep in mind that everything they do isn't tweet/news worthy. But otherwise I don't think there's anything wrong at all with pornstars sharing a bit o their lives with fans.

^I'm sorry but I don't think anyone in the entertainment industry can afford to be seen in a bad light and that's why I prefer not to follow anyone. Twitter is a double edged sword. On the one hand you can reach millions of people and that can open some doors but on the other hand. Doing or saying something terrible on Twitter can close so many more doors. I used to be a huge fan of Tom cruise so any movie he strarred in was on my radar but after he went ape shit crazy on Oprhan then my interest in his movies was significantly affected to the point where I can still watch his movies but No matter which character he plays on screen. I still remember his couch jumping stunt and that takes me out of the movie. I may rent his movies and I may even buy them but he lost my money when it comes to box office profits because i will never go see him on the big screen again.

^ I agree that people in any form of the entertainment industry have to worry about being seen in a bad light by fans. But at the same time fans reactions to certain things can be all over the place and it's almost impossible for any celeb to not turn off certain fans no matter what they do. While Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah's couch made you like him less it made me like him more because I thought it was nice to see him be excited over being with Katie and it shows he has/had a sense of humor and wasn't so serious and stuffy. I tend to find the Scientology stuff a bit odd but if he thinks it works for him more power to him. I think one of the only celebs that turned me against his work is Mel Gibson. He seems hateful and bitter and some of the stuff he's said and done to people are totally not cool. I'm not going contribute anything to his career again. But then there are people who could care less about Mel's personal life and only care about his performance on stage. Some fans get upset over the smallest things and others are able to ignore some pretty bad things.
With Twitter I think if the pornstar/celeb took the time to put some thought in what what they tweet and just ignore the trouble makers and not get caught up in silliness they can do fine tweeting stuff. And they have the power to expose as much as themselves as they feel comfortable with so that shouldn't be an issue. Realistically, the vast majority of celebs don't ever have any problems or backlash from the stuff they tweet. For the few that do it tends to be blown out of proportion by the media. I think pornstars need to be more careful tweeting than the average celeb because their careers are more strongly and directly tied to their fans.

Add an affiliate account to the links to new scenes and you'd have a reason why someone would do this.

Fantastic point. This reminded me and is something I miss. I remember sneaking into rent VHS tapes and vividly the incredible thrill of anticipation I had driving home. I used to love that! Now its instantaneous and that is completely gone :(

You're an entertainer and have things to promote and an image to maintain. You should be tweeting and keeping you fans abreast of projects you have coming up. You don't have to tweet personal stuff, you don't have to tweet everyday, you don't have to get into debates/arguments with fans. Just use Twitter as a promotional tool or to set the record straight on stuff that isn't true if need be. You could reach more of your fans tweeting than posting on a board. If you don't get caught up in the silliness there's nothing wrong with tweeting for someone in your position.

yeah you can use twitter just like draxxx said, and just use it to only promote the things you are doing and it would probably be beneficial. no need to announce where/what you are eating for dinner or crap like that.
I do think responding to some of your fans is a good thing for porngirls to do. obviously not all the time, only when you have a few minutes to BS with them.
But there will be creepers and assholes on there. If it pisses you off too much or you can't ignore them then maybe you might want to keep avoiding twitter, because they WILL be there lol. My advice there is to just ignore them, they will only keep doing it if you acknowledge their existence.
Honestly just have fun with it. It doesn't have to be stressful if you don't let the BS get to you.

Jacky Joy certainly does. If you guys want to check out some real crazy Twitter drama from a twisted porn chick, then you should check out Jacky Joy's Twitter page. I wouldn't suggest following her. But just look at it and see how crazy it is.
Apparently, she and her (currently ex-) boyfriend have broken up again. This is about the 100th time that they've done it. Everytime they broke up, she would tweet about how much she hated the guy. They broke up just about every weekend, and she would always tweet about it. Her fans would start sending her comments about how much of a jerk he is. But after a few days, they were always back together again, and she would be back to tweeting about how much in love she was with with. Eventually, she became like the boy who cried wolf, and I stopped paying attention to it.
But now, this is their latest break-up, and she has spent the whole last week tweeting only about how much she hates the guy again. That's all she's been tweeting about!
So now, she is the epitome of the bitter, angry, scorned female who has spent a week trashing the guy mercilessly to the point where she comes off as a child throwing a tantrum. Of course, many of her fans have jumped on her boyfriend-bashing bandwagon just because they all fantasize about fucking her. I guess that's what happens when you date a crazy porn chick with 85,000+ followers. When she gets pissed off at you, you have 85,000 other fanboys also pissed off at you too just based on what she's saying about you on Twitter.
If her tweets are any indication of how she is in a relationship, I can't say that I blame the guy for bailing. After all, what guy would want to stay in a relationship with a porn girl who blasts it on Twitter everytime they have an argument, and spends days on end trying to turn everyone against him because they're no longer together? Shouldn't that be private? So what the guy dumped you. Get over it and move on. He obviously has.
She has actually spent over a week making this poor guy look like the worst person in the world just because he broke up with her again. Going by her endless hostile tweets, I'd say that the guy probably had good reason for getting the hell out of there.

^ realtip, you are 100% correct. I use to follow Jacky but the breakup/makeup stuff with her guy drove me crazy. Her tweeting is too schizophrenic for me. I think she has a smoking hot body but she hardly ever tweets any "good" pics so it's not worth having to put up with her daily drama.

^ Great example of what a pornstar shouldn't be tweeting about. We all know these girls have boyfriends but fans don't want to constantly reminded of them. Fans also don't need to know that a girl is a flake or freaks out over stuff like this. And if a pornstar isn't posting hot pics of themselves on a regular basis they're missing the point. Using tweets to get people on your side in arguements/battles with people your tweet "friends" don't even know doesn't really help anyone.
And again this isn't about my thinking a girl/celeb shouldn't be human but about an entertainer protecting their image and not turning off fans.

Like the old saying goes, "For every hot girl, there's a guy somewhere who's tired of fucking her."
That becomes even more true when the girl spends more than week making herself publicly look like an obsessed psycho. I'm wondering if the boyfriend found a rabbit boiling on his stove yet.

^ It's not true of all of them but typically porngirls and strippers end up falling for some pretty horrible or totally worthless guys. So I have to imagine the drama scale for the average porngirl is higher than for most women. I'm thinking pornstar boyfriend drama is very common.

^You might be right. But from what I've seen, it's always the porn chicks who are the ones on Twitter causing all the drama. When you look at their boyfriends' Twitter pages, they are usually completely drama-free. When I see this, it causes me to believe that maybe it's not the guy. Maybe she really is a psychotic drama queen, especially given the fact that girls who do porn already have a reputation for being crazy as it is.

^At the risk of sounding sexist...Women generally get the most worked up over relationship issues much more than guys. Toss in that girls/women tend to talk about their relationships more than guys. Plus, as I said...Pornstars and strippers tend to hook up with lousy guys. Then to top it all, many pornstars have "issues" to begin with. Add all that together and it's actually surprising you don't see even more of that type of behavior on Twitter.
Some women thrive on such drama. Even if everything was going fine they'd create some sort of chaos to fuel some drama. It makes life interesting/exciting for them.

^ I don't understand the reason anyone would want to have a large number of followers to the point of buying them. Is there some hidden perks behind a pornstar having a large following? In Hollywood a celeb with large followings get offers/money from companies to mention their products. Is something like that happening with pornstars?

^Melina Mason also mentioned something about this on Twitter the other day. She posted that she had also heard about girls buying followers. Someone responded to her saying that the reason girls (allegedly) buy followers is because the more followers a girl has, the more work she gets. Supposedly, directors and porn companies are now using the number of Twitter followers girls have as a basis for their decisions of which girls to hire.
I don't know if there is any truth to this. But if it is true that this is how girls are getting hired for work now, then it's really stupid, and would explain why so much of porn sucks now. Fans want to see hot girls. Nobody gives a fuck about how many Twitter followers she has. But it would explain why girls would feel the need to buy followers, if it's true that's what they're doing.

i think the logic behind it also is that if someone stumbles across someone with a lot of followers they will be more likely to follow them just to check out why they are so popular.
I highly doubt that anyone is highering the girls as a direct result of twitter followers, especially now that it is common knowledge that you can buy them.
I dont know why, I just really want to know who these girls are. I wonder about Jessie Andrews, she has 240k followers where as Jesse Jane has 211k and Jessica Drake has 131k and they both seem to me to have some crossover success.

That makes sense on some level but I don't know if it actually works. If a girl has a lot of followers that means when she tweets about her latest movie/scene those are all potential fans who may buy the movie or want to see the scene. But the reality is the vast majority of those fans don't care, won't buy it or have no plans to pay to watch it. It would be great if even a quarter of a girl's followers actually bought her movies or contributed to her career in any way but they just don't.

I learned very early on with Twitter that as soon as someone starts talking about their day to day activities or starts discussing aspect of their personal lives it's pretty much an automatic unfollow, at least if I don't know the person in my real life. Anyone who starts discussing their personal views about any number of controversial topics at any great length gets a quick unfollow too. It's just a terrible method to discuss such things and certainly not what I was interested in when I started following them.
If I follow someone I don't know in my own life, its to hear more about whatever they are publicly known for and if they start using their Twitter to start discussing very much else I pretty much lose interest in following them.
When it comes to porn that leaves me with just following the production companies who usually discuss upcoming scenes, who they are shooting, releases dates, all that kind of thing and nothing else. As well as a few of the porn girls who really get the posting formula I am looking for right. That formula is lots and lots of sexy pics, info about the scenes they are currently shooting, discussion about past scenes and possibly about what their fans would like to see in the future. I don't mind if they discuss where they will be if it's a porn related event or if they are camming later or whatever as long as its somewhat porn related. If they do that stuff and keep anything else pretty light and don't make it a large percentage of their tweets I will keep following them.
I can usually keep up with whatever lots of my favorites are doing when it comes to scenes this way, and at the same time usually avoid any of the other nonsense.

As a pornfan, I utilize twitter. I think its great. It's not censored like Facebook. On twitter I get to see more candid shots of my favorite girls. Sometimes I get to interact with them. What's not to like?
