More than that, given the recent similarities between the US and the UK government, I figure it won't be much longer before similar laws are attempted in the US. | struan Member SCOTLAND 242 Posts 8/02 | Posted - Nov 21 2006 : 6:42PM Frankly, I fear that the only way to stop it will be successful legal action, even though the proposals clearly contravene the European Convention of Human Rights, but, then again, so do current restrictions on consensual adult porn, IMO – until such time as a legal challenge is launched, they can get away with it. As for the US adopting similar proposals, I think that the Republican’s recent defeat in the midterm election makes that less likely, though my knowledge of US politics is far from comprehensive (almost non-existent?) - Could Bush push such a thing through without support of Congress and/or the Senate? If Bush was still in full control, and knowing how obsessed he is/his party are with porn, I'm not convinced that even he/they would go this far. Edited by - struan on 11/21/2006 6:49:24 PM [Link] |
