| RichardUK Member London 32 Posts 2/01 | Hi there everybody. I'm new here - in fact only discovered the site today and want to firstly say how great it is! It's really refreshing to see so many people responding to topics and I have had many of my questions answered already! However, I'm still a little confused as to the importation of adult DVD's to the UK. I've read a lot about "seizure notices" coming from HM Customs if a film is intercepted. Is this simply a warning not to import such films again or can one be prosecuted on the very first occasion? I hear that adultdvdnow.com are able to send dvd's 'securely' now and wondered how this is achieved. I have a long list of films I wish to purchase but am still pretty nervous until I know all the facts... Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Check out some of the threads in the Shopping Forum, I think you might find some answers there & I don't think the online stores here have had many problems with UK Customs, if any. Looking forward to hearing more from you!..........DB |

They send the discs without the boxes in big envelopes which look like letters and pass through customs easily. Id recommend them without hesitation. I haven't tried any other company yet and would like an up to date report on whats happening if anyone else in the UK has any experience to share with us. |

| Joey Starr Senior Member Still wanking after all these years. 8082 Posts 10/00 | I live in London and have ordered many adult DVDs from overseas (US and the rest of Europe) without any problems. Check out the thread at https://www.adultdvdtalk.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3568&FORUM_ID=4&CAT_ID=1 In this thread, I wrote the following : "In the UK, it is now legal (since May 2000) for an individual to import Porn DVDs from overseas (provided they do not feature pissing, fisting, rape, etc...). The only outlets that can legally sell them within the UK are licensed Sex Shops." The only thing Customs could do if you follow these guidelines would be to open the package to check. That happened to me once or twice, but they reclose it and you receive it no problem, letter or warning. That said, if you order say a fisting DVD from Germany (fisting is legal on video and DVD there and much appreciated by the German porn public) and your package is opened you could face problems (DVD seized and maybe other complications). As for DVDs sold in London sex shops, they are very expensive (at least £20) and seem to be mostly titles that although X-Rated, couldn't be sold in any other countries : they look so bad, really cheap (for the contents not the price), crappy stuff Joey |

| charlie Member uk 450 Posts 4/00 | It seems that UK Customs are more relaxed now as Joey Starr has already pointed out. I recommend AdultDVDNow highly because they offer very good service and package your order to avoid paying additional duty and tax. They are no longer the cheapest though due to the demise of their Low Price Guarantee but they are still one of the best. Even if Customs are more relaxed I would still keep the orders small just incase it goes AWOL. Most retailers specify a policy of not replacing lost orders. All the companies on ADT ship to the UK but some declare the full value of goods on the Customs Declaration form and you could face additional charges on your order when it arrives. If in doubt contact the retailer to check their shipping method. Happy shopping. |
| JMO Member UK 104 Posts 2/01 | Wow - what an eye-opener! Adult movies in the UK are ruthlessly bowldlerised, to the extent I think our American cousins would describe as R-rated (if that). XXX films, and that is any film depicting penetration (of any kind), masturbation, ejaculation or oral sex would be classed as R-18 (or restricted 18) and are only available through a handful of sleazy licensed outlets at extortionate prices. More widely available 18 rated movies have been slashed to ribbons. We are talking 2 hours cut down to 72 minutes, and shots can be electronically cropped to hide anything "nasty". I've lost count of the number of scenes of women's heads bobbing backwards and forwards with their nose on the lower frame line to mask out a blow job. Fortunately, thanks to a new law on Human Rights (which we in the UK have never had before), it's no longer illegal to import porn - although Customs and the Police like to try and confiscate stuff. I'm sure some knee-jerk reactionary politician will stop it, but until they do, I'm still marvelling in what I've been missing all this time. |

| CrazyBlade New Member 4 Posts 6/01 | As someone who, as yet, is unable to obtain a credit card (well, silly in his youth...), imagine my frustration at not being able to get hold of Adult DVDs in this country. That was until I found a company called Future Entertainment who supply uncensored DVDs from Vivid, Metro, Leisure Time and some others and have a great service. They are definitely worth checking out and, as they are UK based, there is no customs problems!! CrazyBlade Self improvement is masturbation... Now, self destruction... |

Depending on the size of the order we recommend different packing methods to avoid headache. Although it is legal to buy adult items, that doesnt mean that customs will let them pass. Customs can, if they want, destroy a package without reason. Yes, they are supposed to have a reason but who is going to question them. Especially if they dont watch the video. We ship alot of orders to the UK and have only lost 2 in the past 2 years. I think thats a pretty good sign of how secure UK shipping is. Whoever you buy from, its a good idea to email them and confirm their methods. You can request that they send just the DVD's with the cases which will make for a smaller package (which will pass customs easily). The larger the package, the more chance it has for trouble. 3 DVD's can ship (with case) in a Global Envelope. You can fit 7 in a small brown box. Beyond that you are looking at a larger package and might want to order less or request that just the DVD be sent with no case. As far as the original question of prosecution - Not a chance in hell. lol. Foreign customs have no power in the USA. And if they do, it takes way too much money to enforce their laws. Dont forget, the items are LEGAL in the USA. Its similar to how some people order prescription drugs from overseas because they cant get them here in the USA. It might not be 100% legal but shipping continues. And we're not talking about heavy narcotics. Posted by John D. |
| UK Ed Member 7 Posts 8/01 | I have a question that one of you fine people may be able to answer. If I order from AdultDVDNow do I select ordinary World Mail of the Express UPS option as this seems expensive, but if more success at getting into the UK better. Please share your experiences of which is more reliable/best overall. Please help! UK ED. |
| charlie Member uk 450 Posts 4/00 | In my experience UK Customs is no longer a problem for seizure of adult material. Since the change in guidelines I have had at least 6 orders from the US and Europe opened, inspected and released without problem. If however the material is on the banned list you will have it confiscated. ADN is an excellent retailer but the choice of shipping service really depends on your own personal requirements. The difference in shipping methods is that one is insured with tracking and the other is not, both will be reliable. For a large order I would probably play safe and go for UPS Express as the cost will be spread out and if your order goes AWOL you have some protection. I have lost count the number of past orders with ADN but I know I never lost one and they always arrived within 3-4 days of being sent. So 100% reliability from my experience and UPS Express was not available then. The only risk to your order will not be Customs seizure but if it gets lost in transit or stolen and the chance of this happening is small but it's still a factor. That's where UPS Express comes in but you pay extra for that peace of mind. Hope this helps. Good luck. |
