For those of you who haven't seen the first Dinner Party, I would suggest you start there first before you see the sequel. Five Star has the first one for three bucks less (both are a heck of a bargain, but the first one is an unbelievable one).
Why? Like most sequels, it doesn't live up to the first one. Seymore Butts, the great gonzo king, replaced one of the great art film directors, Cameron Grant, for the sequel. That's like having Michael Bay or John Woo do a film like The English Patient or Shakespeare in Love--it just doesn't fit their style. But suprisingly, the sex scenes aren't really more hardcore than the first, contrary to what we'd expect from Seymore. Instead, it's neatly shot in such as way that a cable version could easily be edited (i.e. in Paul Thomas/Vivid style). In all, Dinner Party 2 is better than most, but not in the same league as the first.
