When I click on New Topic in the US DVD Trading forum, but it keeps giving me an automated error message that states the error has been sent to the webmaster.

Has anyone else had this problem in that forum?

(Sorry if this is considered off-topic)

It isn't a problem with that forum. I get this error message with some frequency and it can happen in any forum.

I know I only have just over 100 posts, but I have never had this problem on any forum - although I mainly post in the US DVD Trading forum.

Why does it happen?

I don't know. My guess is that there's a problem with resource allocation on the server. Basically, the software can only handle so many requests at once. If it gets too many it has to reject some. Again, that's just a guess.

Have you been having power problems all week? Today isn't the first time I've gotten the error message. I got it several times yesterday, as well. Twice in a row, at one point.

nope, just today. next time it happens can you let me know what time of day it is? I'd like to check to see if there's something running at that time that might have a lock on one of the database tables.

forgot to add that I think part of the posting problems may have to do with the generating the full text indexes for forum searches. the index is repopulated from scratch weekly on a schedule. the interim updates between full populations can be very slow. the database server is supposed to do interim full text index updates as a low priority background task but that doesn't appear to be the case from watching the task manager.

Uh, so it really isn't sending you notices like the error message claims? lol

it logs them to a file. I look at it once in a while.

I sometimes get these error messages but any time they happen I just hit refresh and the page usually loads without problem.

Thanks for the times. It appears that each time this happens there's a schduled maintenance routine running on the database server. I also discovered today that the the database server is experiencing correctable (ECC) memory errors. That can't be a good thing.

Just an update, I ordered 8 GB of new RAM for the server last night. It should be installed within the next week.

The server only accepts ECC. It's got 14GB of it now.
