You need to get yourself a IEEE 1394 port (FireWire) card or see if you motherboard has IEEE 1394 port (FireWire) built into it. Then you will need some video editing software like Sonic MyDVD or something similar, there's lots to chose from really.

The software will import the video in for you, it will play it on the camcorder and stream it in. If making a DVD it will even make chapter points and stuff - which you can edit out or create more or what ever, again lots of options.

There are 2 different connectors, so you will need to find the right cable.

here's one PCI card with the ports and here's another. Both FireWire, but 2 different ports. Check the cable that should have came with the camcorder to see which you need. MOST I have seen take the second link.

there's also a great free video editor called virtualdub available at virtualdub.org. not totally newbie-friendly, but you won't outgrow it and it's not that hard.

It's been a long ass time since I used V-Dub. Does the new version make menues and shit when making DVDs? That's the only advantage I could think of that Sonic MyDVD and the other apps like it that stream in video would have.

thanks guys - i got the card and cable and everything works fine - using the Windows Movie Maker...

now... what program would be good to use that can blur certain areas of the video - i heard Adobe Premiere is good for that - but i downloaded the trial and i could figure out how to do it...

any simple programs to use that offer such features?

thanks!

Good to hear you got it going!

I personally have no idea on the blurring thing. From what I know, Adobe anything is a bit tough to get going (as in learn quick), but once you in the sear and know what you're doing you can do a boat load.

Hopefully some one can add something to this one as I have no idea

Good luck!
