The European versions are PAL (though almost all players sold in Europe can play NTSC discs), and usually have different box covers. They may have non-English audio tracks and/or subtitles. Let's see some examples (compare with US box pics)... Danish version of The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women: http://www.dvdoo.com/dvdoo/film.asp?Command=7910 This has Danish subtitles. Dutch version of Ass Worship 2: http://www.simplythebestdvd.com/en-gb/p_2144.html This has Dutch subtitles. Some Max Hardcore title or other, German version: http://www.erodvd.nl/uk/1/mx_ng00742.html German version has completely different title to whatever the US version was called. Seems to include fisting. Most US porn is shot on 525/60 video tape. That means that the European distributor converts the 525/60 source material to 625/50 when authoring the PAL DVDs. (Do some US studios author PAL DVDs in-house, or is that always left to the European distributor?) Assuming there's no extra material in the European version, it should always be better to get the US (NTSC) DVD rather than the European version, right? Conversion to 625/50 must always result in some degradation in image quality. Does anyone maintain a list of content differences between US and European versions of titles? Apparently the European versions of some Max Hardcore titles contain material not present in the US versions (e.g. fisting) due to concern over US obscenity laws. Do any other studios' titles have extra material in the European DVDs? If there is extra material in the European version of a particular title, I'd prefer to get that. But I haven't found any site that lists differences. [Right now I only have one European/PAL DVD of a US-made film, Sex Quest. The transfer quality of that is pretty poor; there's a greenish tint to some scenes. Maybe poor NTSC-to-PAL conversion from the master tape???] Eb. [Link]

Click to expand I was under the impression a DVD does not have something like PAL or NTSC. It´s just the RAW RGB Signal. The player (if being able to) performs the ´conversion´ requested by the user. But i could be wrong. I´ve never seen a european (more X-rated) version of a american movie. I wish i could have gotten my hands on a particular movie which one of the best producers/cameraman was taken to the court for! But i never did :( Even though i´m not a big fan of fisting scenes i wish the best ALL-GIRL ALL ANAL Series of all times would have been able to show some of that ! When it comes to Mr. Hardcore ... i admit i´ve seen his earlier movies but he became more and more gross as he went on. I wonder if the girls really know what they are signing when they want to star in his movies. Lately he seems to think degrading is even more fun when he can pee on the girls. On PAL DVDs, the picture has 625 lines per frame, 50 fields per second. NTSC DVDs have 525 lines per frame, 60 fields per second. So when authoring a PAL version of a film originally shot on 525/60 video tape, it must be converted to 625 lines/50fps before MPEG-2 encoding. Eb. [Link]
narcotizedmind New Member 3 Posts 11/02	Posted - Nov 3 2002 : 8:45PM Presumably you realize that any movie that was shot on film will be slightly speeded up in the PAL version, but not in the NTSC version. For instance, the PAL versions of Andrew Blake's films will be somewhat shorter, and in fact all Hollywood movies - hell, all movies, period - suffer from this defect of the PAL System (from memory it's due to film running at 24 fps, PAL being based on 25 fps, and NTSC at 30 fps. I would be surprised if the same thing does not happen with any NTSC video to PAL video conversion, but I have no idea how things shot on digital cameras are affected. Of course you might not be bothered by having films sped up 4%. (this is just from memory - I'm not an expert!). [Link]
