i recently saw an auction from a seller in Canada stating:

"Don't be fooled into buying the US version of this DVD. There is no such thing as a USA unedited version. Every state in the USA has different censorship laws, therefore the US versions vary from state to state. Some may have left out many of the good parts. So, BEWARE! My version is the true Canadian unedited version with all the extras for your complete satisfaction. "

I've also heard CANADIAN versions are the edited ones. Does anyone know what's really going on??

cheers

Since most companies that produce adult dvd's are in california I would say california laws apply to most of them. I would doubt they make custom versions for each state since that would be I image increase their production cost. Anyways if you ever rent dvd's online like I do they always have some sort of disclaimer stating that they will not ship to certain states and even zipcodes of the US since like you said they have differing laws regarding what is offensive.
On the otherhand if you've read posts from others on these forums from other countries they definitely state that let say the UK version definitely differs and has parts cut out vs the US version.

Going from least-edited to most heavily edited
the continuum would be:

1. European-release version (but not every title has one)
2. US released version
3. Canadian (provincial-approved) version
4. Cable version (grin)

Hope that helps,

Actually, fisting is legal in Canada but not in the US. When it comes to rough sex, yes the US is more liberal. But you can rent and buy fisting titles up here in Canada, but if you're in the US no (except for Scott's site of course).

I bought Ass Worship on ebay and I got a cheesy Canadian version that edited out all the A2M shots, the butt plug play, and the classic Jada Marcela cumshot at the end. Beware of the Canadian versions. Whoever said that the U.S. versions contain less material are full of dung.

Scott,
Technically, fisting may not be illegal in the US but there isn't anybody willing to take the chance of making it and releasing it. Also, a lot of store owners are worried to put something with fisting on their shelf, especially with the Extreme Associates trial not decided yet.
As far as Canadian versions of US movies, they are much worse than the originals coming out of the US. Here's the thing.
Because the Canadian market isn't all that big, any US movie sent to a Canadian company that plans on releasing it themselves (i.e. Valentine Video), they will just use the US version of the movie and then cut out the rough stuff etc.
However, if you rent a German or French title released by a Canadian company here, it will have fisting etc in it.
I don't know why the Canadian companies wouldn't ask US companies for the European versions of their movies, that way they could take advantage of the fisting market that is highly ignored up here in Canada unless it's a straight up fisting title imported from Europe for release in Canada.
I never understood that. The one exception to that rule was the Seymore Butts stuff that had fisting in it. Whoever was releasing his movies up here in Canada was asking him for the European versions because that's what we were seeing up here, fisting in Seymore Butts titles (Tampa Tushy Fest etc.)
Also, the laws vary by province, so it's much less of a headache for Valentine Video to release a vanilla version of a movie to the whole country than it is to release a more risque version and have to worry about which province will give them a hard time about it, if you know what I mean.

I have seen the seller that says "dont be fooled into buying the us version..."
Canadian versions are very heavily edited and are nowhere near the quality of the us versions.
If you are in canada, i highly recommend somehow obtaining a us version, Adultdv-depot.com is a good place to buy if you are in canada.

Choad,

To answer your question clearly: Canadian versions are more heavily edited then U.S versions.

Being a resident of Canada and purchasing titles across the country and purchasing titles from various states throughout the U.S.A, I can tell you without a doubt that Canadian titles will have a lot of the footage cut (although not all the time). I purchase all my titles from the U.S.

I've seen the ad you're referring to and either he/she is clueless or is simply marketing their auction in a dishonest fashion.

I thought we in Canada weren't allowed to sell porn on ebay. Is this guy selling it on ebay.com or ebay.ca? And is it in the "Mature" section? or is it just listed in the "dvd other" section.
Just wondering.

They probably just lie about their address to ebay so they can use the mature audiences section (I do the same).

I've had a look at the dvds on ebay and I've been surprised how many of trhe sellers hail from Canada. Are the prices slightly cheaper there or is there some other reason why such a disproportionate number of sellers (of EA, RLD, Anabolic etc) come from north of the border?

SNP.

Sir Noel Plum,

The prices are pretty much the same in Canada. However, if you factor in the exchange rate and the cost of shipping titles from outside the country, it's cheaper to buy at home.

As far as the number of ebay sellers being from canada, it appears many of them are in the biz / retailers.

Here is the seller in question, I've bought from him before and he's reliable, I do recommend him. But as I said before, I have no way of knowing what's truly unedited and all that.

If you don't mind terribly, I'm going to jump this over to its own thread, because we're about to wander way away from the original question.
