Quite a selection! There are 755 titles of which 117 have been given a review to a greater or lesser degree. The minimum price listed is $5.88 and the maximum is $59.99, slightly over 10 times the minimum. The average price of all 755 titles is $26.48 and the median price is $24.95, quite close together. Now if these irrelevant numbers could just tell us something about the quality of the content, we'd be home free. Low price is often (but not always) indicative of a major loser; however, high price is not an indicator of a winner. Certainly, specific studios and directors tend to turn out quality (or lack thereof) product; however, even this is not a given. Everyone has an off day. Unfortunately, content is a qualitative matter and not so easily converted into a statistic. The existing reviews are a useful tool; however there are not enough of them. And there are too few people doing them. I realize that writing a review is hard labor (or at least, a labor of lust) and not everyone's cup of tea. However, if each of us reading these forum pages would write a mini-review of each of the DVDs he owns or rents at the rate of about 1 a month (& more often if you can), we would end up with a really meaningful body of data on which to base our purchase decisions. This is the goal! Ideally we'd have more than one opinion on every seemingly worthwhile title. Of course reviews on every Nymph or Sunshine title isn't necessary - just need enough reviews to know the general quality of the studio. But when a title is more than say $25, no one should have to risk a purchase without a review.Thanks to all who have contributed reviews. The ones we do have are some of the best I've ever read. And I'd hate to think that out of more than 1500 well written reviews, only 117 were useful. Or, did I read that wrong? I agree though with your general sentiments, although just as we see with some crappy compilations, more doesn't always mean better. The number of reviews is growing rapidly and gaining momentum, as is the large number of quality reviewers. I agree as well about encouraging 'mini-reviews' as it's better than nothing, and something everyone should be able to tackle without getting into a big project. thanks GaySatyr [Link] |

I'd love it if someone wrote a review and said "Joeblow69, you are a total meathead! You loved this movie, but I thought it was sheepshit!" So give it a try! Don't get so hung up that others will criticize you for not listing a splooge by splooge accont of a dvd either. Have fun and contribute something that may help either provide perspective (ie: a 2nd or 3rd review) or an entirely different title. If you don't know the cast names-feel free to look up the title elsewhere or just include whatever description you feel comfortable with. Don't let a handful of reviewers do all the work either. While Joe, for example, has a good writing style, the bottomline is that someone may save money on a POS or get a good title based, in part, on what you write. Joe: some of the reviewers are super sensitive towards criticism (real or perceived) so writing in a review that someone is a meathead probably isn't a good idea. For that matter, I get whined at by people who claim I show favoritism in my links to other reviews. I might write "Astro's Awesome Review", "Astro's Excellent Advice", or just "Astro's Review" as the link title. It doesn't mean I like one over the other (it might but generally I try and mix it up unless someone prefers a specific title for links). If any potential reviewers are out there and want advice-feel free to contact other reviewers. Almost every one of them has indicated, at some point in time or another, that they would be willing to help out others trying to review something. Don't feel the need to agree on observations you make-we all see things differently (something I'm sure all of you can understand)... [Link] |

I hope to spare others the expensive learning curve, considering how over-priced (especially considering some of their content's value) these darned things are. Plus, I'm hoping to use your (collective) evaluations to better target my future purchases. Maybe we can put a significant dent in the pocketbooks of some of the more unscrupulous pornographers.
