The announcement of this panel made me think of having a thread about what feature films has used explicit sex as a story-telling technique well and what they did differently than other features that may not have been as successful since this is a topic that all fans of features should have some interest in. I'll start the conversation out with the feature by Dee Severe I recently saw Corrupted by the Evils of Fetish Porn. Integrating sex scenes into the story of a movie can be hard, since sex doesn't fit in with every situation. In Corrupted by the Evils of Fetish Porn, Dee Severe manages to overcome the issue by having the main character get a job editing fetish porn, which puts her on porn sets so the action can naturally occur. The explicit sex itself is used as a story-telling technique because the main character gets drawn into the world of fetish porn, which she had never experienced before, so as she gets drawn in, dreams of her life become entangled within fetish sex scenes. On the other hand, Femmes De Sade's scenes push the story forward and get increasingly disturbing and degrading. Odyssey and Through the Looking Glass also use the sex scenes to suggest mental states.  [Link] |

I love the sexual odyssey that Veronica Hart's character takes in American Desire from 1981. R Bolla is on an odyssey of his own but his initial steps are more for comic relief as he encounters an S & M dominatrix. His situation improves with his encounter with the hitch hiker then the Hart and Bolla characters are brought together for that terrific finale. Another terrific flick is Little Girls Lost (1982) that uses the Hollywood casting couch as a means of incorporating sex scenes into this tale of actresses living together and trying to make it in Hollywood. Veronica Hart is terrific once again, and according to her Rialto Report pod cast, this film features her last sex scene ever. However, to answer your question, films like the already mentioned THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS are crucial in this regard. Damiano's MEMORIES WITHIN MISS AGGIE is another crucial example of a film whose sex scenes are all crucial to the development of the characters. I'd also cite films like INTRUSION as excellent examples of integrated sex, an especially difficult feat in that particular instance given the subject matter of the film. I think it's easier to have these discussions when referencing dramatic films, but what always impresses me is when makers of hardcore comedies manage to integrate humor along with character development into their work, such as Bob Chinn's HARD SOAP HARD SOAP and Joe Sarno's A TOUCH OF GENIE.
