Hello,
having difficulty watching anything on u-tube or similar streaming vids, most anywhere on the net that is greater than 20 or 30 sec....I have a cable connection and plenty of bandwidth...also, I have tried during off hours on the net; like when I come home from work after a 3rd shift..this site/forum has helped me in the past when no other forums could...hoping for a repeat preformance...either way, thanks!

try updating to latest shock player.

right..generally use firefox 2 but IE 7 offers the same results; stalls or freezes...os = windows xp
kukm4...what is a shock player?...once again, demonstrating my ignorance here...

Are you up to date as far as all the add-ons/extensions that are necessary to make utube work?
ALl your media codecs (or if you prefer cowdexes, tomes of bovine wisdom)?

What happens when the video stops playing? Does anything crash? Or does the video just appear to stop loading? Do you have enough RAM to store the video in cache?

Browsers use plug-in programs to do a lot of things. The plug-ins can be updated w/o having to touch the browser itself, and vice versa. It's a nice, modular approach to adding functionality for the things you do.
Youtube videos run on Flash (formerly Shockwave). Flash player gets updated fairly regularly, and if you're having problems with videos, sometimes you can fix it by updating to the latest version of Flash player.
Go to a Youtube video. Right-click on the video and you should get a menu choice that says something like "About Flash Player" (or similar). Click on that. When I do it (I also use Win XP) it takes me to the Adobe home page and tells me which version of Flash I'm using, what's the latest, etc. From there you should be able to update to the latest and greatest.
Try that first.
