Just saw this box cover for Jim Holliday's
Witch Coven College over at VCA. What grabbed my attention the most was the "Bareback ANAL in every scene" blurb. Then there's the copy on the back:
Any details on this policy change? I'm guessing the Hustler buy-out had something to do with it.

I have to see this first to believe it.

If true, thank you Hustler!
I guess Hustler forced them into it because sales went down.

Just watched VCA's Eternal Virgins yesterday. It also has condom-less sex scenes.

<also> or <all>?

I consider any porn dvd with more than zero condom-scenes not worth my consideration. But that's just me...

Still, others here might want to know: how many bareback scenes?

If more features go back to no-condom policy the standard and future of features could be back in business, great dialogue and anticipation makes a sex that much better like features from 95-96

Would be cool if they would go condom-free but they still need to go more hardcore. They're a little too couples-friendly for my taste.

Hey, how's it going,

Consider me a prude, but I am actually less than thrilled to hear that VCA is apparently ditching their non-condom policy. I have seen so much gonzo lately that I realize that I really do prefer non-condom scenes, but I always liked that girls could go to VCA or Vivid if they didn't want to work bareback. I'm sad to see that that might be over now. I know they can still demand that they work with a condom, but now that will be harder for them.

I guess their lack of sales finally forced them to do this. Now they need to ditch their racist white men only policy. I will never spend a dime on their shit as long as this policy is in place.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see some level of government, local, state or federal, come in and mandate condoms for all sex scenes.

But wouldn't that create an underground market for bareback porn, with none of the testing and documentation that exists in the mainstream porn industry today? Seems like it could just make the problem worse.

Look for the governemnt to step in soon.

So my next question is: Do girls who only want to work condom-only belong in this business? In my opinion they don't!

I don't mind couples-friendly porn, it's a welcomed change from your no limits gonzo. But I never did care for the use of condoms. Going "bareback" as VCA put it, is a welcomed change.

On another thought, Dellporn - Do you need help removing that thorn from your paw? All of your posts are either accusations of racism or disparage and defamation of performers/companies.

But who would distribute this underground material? Porn didn't make a dent in society until it developed 'legitimate' distribution channels. I have my doubts that the Internet could take up the slack if the regular distributers couldn't/wouldn't touch the underground stuff.

PS - As you suggest, the law of unintended consequences hasn't stopped the gov'nmint yet.

Hey, how's it going,

"Do girls who only want to work condom-only belong in this business? In my opinion they don't!"

It is just a difference of opinion. I think that girls who would rather work with condoms have a place in porn too.

Hey, how's it going,

I realize the girls can still go to Vivid. However, is that their only option now? I am just saying that I like that the girls have options. Now, it is becoming more and more that if you prefer condoms then you don't work. I do not think that is right. Again, it is just a difference of opinion.

It is all just the evolution of porn and a matter of what sells and what does not. I never actively supported the condom-only productions so I really have no feet to stand on here. However, I always liked that a girl like Renee LaRue, one of my favorite pornstars, could work with Wicked and Vivid and VCA and Wildlife consistently and not have to worry about her condom-only policy. In time, she gave way and began working without condoms, albeit after much deliberation. Ms. St. Claire was the same way. She was a condom-only girl for a while there but eventually that completely went away. Whether this came about due to a need to find work or just a personal choice I don't know. I just think it is better for porn to still have some semblence of the Golden Age era around with companies like VCA and Wicked churning out feature films, even if I am not a big fan of that kind of thing. By the same thought, I think it is good for the performers to have companies they can go to and not have to worry about making a decision about condoms. Now they just have Vivid.

Maybe I am behind the times or maybe there are other companies with condom-only policies that I am not aware of. To me, part of VCA's whole entire identity was that they were condom-only. Now that this might be over then they are just another company trying to keep up with the RedLights and PlatinumXs and Anabolics. Such is the way of capitalism.

I'm not that fond of condoms, but I think it would be just plain stupid for a company to not use a beautiful starlet just because she did condom-only scenes.

Can you imagine telling Vanessa Chase you wouldn't shoot her because (hypothetically) she wouldn't do bareback? Christ, what a waste that would be.

To me any porn starlet not doing bareback is a waste. So is also Vivid's Dasha - to me the best looking (fake)porn girl currently on earth.
And if I was the only one feeling like this, VCA would have sold more and not been forced by the market to go bareback again.

You know that for a fact, do you? Mind quoting your source?

Personally, I can think of several problems at VCA that have nothing to do with condoms. However, since I don't have an insight into VCA's boardroom, I'm willing to admit that my thinking is pure speculation.

I know that when the new releases come out at my video store, there are multiple copies of the latest RLD, Evil Angel, etc., and they are constantly rented, whereas there might be one copy of the latest VCA, Wicked, or Vivid, and they more or less just sit there gathering dust.

Nobody's questioning that VCA has problems in the retail marketplace. The question was whether there was any factual basis for stating condoms were the major factor.

As for Vivid, their bread and butter isn't new releases, it's compilations, isn't it? That being the case, wouldn't you agree that it's hard to judge the impact of new-title sales on their bottom line?

And finally, I've see RLD, Evil Angel, etc. sitting there gathering dust too (not as often, I'll grant you). It just depends on the locale and the titles.

You are correct that it's correlation without causation.

It's hard to judge things like new title sales because these are private companies, and they don't have to release sales figures. But it would be interesting to get ahold of that information.

Yes, it would. But, given that more than condom policies separate these companies, it would still be difficult to analyze the why. Did they shoot the right talent? Did they make the right boxcover? Etc, etc.

Hardware, I admit: It was just a guess. The most plausible one, however. I meet hardly somebody from the non-Vivid crowd liking condoms.
But I might be wrong of course...

Just a couple of responses to questions/comments on this topic. We'll have a direct VCA rep respond asap.

1) As some of you have noticed, VCA has changed its position on its condom-only policy. Except for occasional circustances, VCA is a non-condom company.

2) VCA will keep a commitment to high quality, but with edgier, harder-core sex. There are too many pure gonzo companies on the market, and VCA will be one of the few companies providing quality in both the sex and the production values.

3) There is no 'whites-only' policy at VCA. VCA has the Big Omar series, and there is no 'white-only' policy for U.S-based productions either.

Thanks, and please look out for some exciting developments at VCA.

Barebacking is fun. I don't wear condoms ever. Humans are not meant to wear condoms. It's so un-natural.

Considering that the ability to step outside our natural limitations is what defines humans as a species, the argument that something shouldn't be done because it's unnatural is simply bizarre.

Wow, all these posts and no one mentions the talent. Pretty self-centered. It seems no one has considered the day to day delemmas of what the talent go through and the decisions we have to make to bring you your jack-off material.

I know I am Kylie Ireland and you will all jump on the "you are were a contract girl, a lay there and fake it type, and a condom player" bandwagon, I suggest before you post your hate mail you visit the forum I have been posting in lately (Dion-Kylie Gangbang) to catch up on my real sexuality. Also feel free to visit the free side of my website - www.kylieireland.com - before you assume you know me. There is much more to Kylie Ireland than meets the eye.

Since it seems that no one is here to represent the talent's side of this I want to throw out a few thoughts.

More on Condoms….

When I came into the adult industry in 1994 the requirements for talent testing were a simple HIV test. Condom use was rare. During that time, in the first year of my career I did nearly 100 movies, not one with condoms. The bummer for many of my fans is that it was also in my earlier years that I didn’t do anal in any of my movies – not because I didn’t want to or didn’t like anal – it just wasn’t necessary for me to do it since I was working seven days a weeks doing normal sex scenes. Twist of Fate was my first on camera anal and was sans condom as well. It was shortly after this that there was a HIV “scare”. At this point most companies went condoms only, requiring their performers to use condoms in all their products. The rule stayed in effect for nearly five years – during which I went under exclusive contract with VCA Pictures, doing approximately 6 movies per year all including anal. It is because of this timing that there are very few movies of mine where I will be found performing anal sex without a condom. Timeless is one of the movies that was right before the “rule” where you’ll find me doing a condomless anal. After I left VCA in mid-2000 and went back to “freelancing” I continued on with the condom use partly because most of the companies I was working for still had in effect the condom only policy and partly for my own preference. For the most part scenes shot exclusively for my website will be without due to the fact that I require stringent testing as well as the fact that I personally trust and know well the talent I would tend to use. Some companies continue to uphold their condoms-only requirement, some have gone to a condom-optional policy and some have thrown the rule out the window all together (just for the record – all companies require a current [PCR-DNA] HIV test and STD test). I get many requests from fans to do scenes without condoms and what it all boils down to is that, hey, it’s my body and my life. Respect my decision. As for my current movie roles I judge the scene based on my comfort level.

Now, that is my opinion from a talent point of view. I also can clearly see all sides of the story here. From the viewer’s angle of things: if I am going to watch a porn movie I am doing so to create/fulfill a fantasy and believe me in my fantasies I don’t bother with condoms! Seeing that rubber ring as well as that floppy little reservoir tip can be an unwanted distraction. However, somewhere in the back of my mind I try to tell myself that it is good to know that the actors care enough to be concerned. From the companies angle: When the major companies first put into effect the condom-only rule there was not only an uproar from the fans but a drop in the foreign sales as well. In other countries, condom use in adult movies is virtually unheard of, therefore foreign distributors cut back on buying American-made condom-enforced movies. There was a lot of pressure from that alone. And understandably so. Kudos to the companies that stood their ground and supported the talent and their health, especially at the loss of an almighty dollar. Which brings us back around to the talent, who of course don’t like using condoms (who does?) but should care about their own health as well as their co-workers health. Besides what better people to support condom use than the people involved in making adult movies! All of this is why it is such a dilemma.

In addition, you all never hear about the cases of chlamydia and gonorreah that have been running rampant thoughtout the industry as of late. Despite the fact that STD tests are REQUIRED, performers, who will remain unnamed, are LYING and knowingly passing it on. As talent, you have to look out for number one, because no one else gives a shit.

Those are just MY thoughts, right or wrong isn't for anyone to say. All I wanted to do is point out that there is more than meets the eye here. I am not as upset about eveyone's comments about the movies and the condoms, just the lack of concern and respect for the girls out there busting their asses to get your cock hard.

Actually, it has been considered at length, just not in this particular thread. I think you'll find that quite a few of us understand the issues involved and respect a performer's decision to require condoms. That doesn't mean we aren't going to complain if it's one of those nasty white ones, lol.

Having said that, I agree that condoms have a very vocal group of detractors who aren't going to let a little thing like medical reality intrude upon their whacking fantasies.

Actually my response to the condom question has pretty much always been that it should be left to the individual performers in each scene. It's their health, let them make the decision.

On a more serious note, WOOHOO Kylie's in the forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kylie,
We all have opinions on this subject. Not to say that as fans we don't respect the girls because we want to see them without condoms. Videos are fantasies that is why no condoms and anal is so hot because the average joe doesn't do it everyday.
PS. Now I can see why you have that label as being a prima donna in the business. Good luck on the company dealing with your issues and concerns.

I am confused by this quote.... I assure you that I am the furthest thing from a prima donna. A true prima donna wouldn't have any opinion nor take the time to post in a forum. I too am wondering what in my post made you form this opinion? Is it because I HAVE an opinion?

I wonder where the prima donna comment comes from too. Everything I've heard about Kylie was that she's extremely nice and very intelligent. I think both of those things came across very well in her posts. I can't think of many other performers who have entered the condom debate here with the entire history of what was done since they entered the industry and why they do things as they do. Thank you Kylie!

Here it is lets say Dion hires her for a gangbang. It is a non condom gangbang, picture Kylie saying "ohhh I dont feel comfortable having sex with no condom, can you please respect me as a star and do it with condoms"
I would say get out of here and hire a new hot girl that will do it with no condoms. I don't want to be harsh but there some girls in the industry that makes to many "request" for their scenes to go right. Less complains , less whining, less problems,
Do you agree guys agree?

Thanks astronight -

I like posting in here, I think it is fun and I think that if the talent comes in and posts from time to time the public will get a clearer idea of who we are, what really goes on in the biz, plus they have the oppotunity to ask actual porn stars questions! Most of all I enjoy a good debate. If people have an opinion I want to hear it! If I don't agree with you I may debate back but I am not going to call you names.

What I don't understand is the need to cast stones....

lsb4203,

If I understand the process, when hiring talent it is pretty well laid out what will, and what will not take place, including condom use. Papers are signed too to that effect.

If a performer signs up and agrees, and then later balks and says they changed their mind, you might have a point.

I have a DVD where in the behind the scenes they are doing the girl doggie, then the male performer pulls out and tries to stick it in her butt. She stops it and says anal was not what she had agreed to do. IMO that little bit should not have been put in the DVD. Was the producer (or performer or studio) trying to make her look like a complainer or a prima donna? I don't know for sure. But what came across to me was a bad image of the studio/producer/performer trying to push the scene where it was not agreed and intended to go, and it put them in a bad light not the girl.

Fair enough, however you are speaking hypothetically and with very little knowledge of me. If Dion hired me to do a gangbang my request would be simply that I would get to pick the guys and they would need to have current tests (which are required anyway). The reason for picking my own guys? I want to have a good time! If I am going to shoot a gangbang, I want to work with people with whom I trust and with whom there is a mutual spark. This is not only for me but it will make for a better scene - don't you agree? I would think that most viewers would rather see a performer having a great time doing the scene than looking like they are only there for the money.

I am not all paranoid of doing scenes without condoms, remember that I was under contract with VCA during the condoms only policy so I was required to use them. There were often situations when I liked and trusted the talent I was working with (an example is my dream sequence in RAW - the three guy round and round anal scene) where I would have loved to not use those pesky condoms.

Isb4203 - you seem to think you know a lot about this industry but I assure you, you do not. No one except people who are physically active in it (directors, producers, crew, etc. not just talent) can actually understand how it really is. Furthermore, you don't know me, you are basing "Kylie Ireland" on a stereotype. I could do the same based on the things I have read about you, but I don't.

Kylie,
Fair enough, you made some valid points and I must admit I am not in the industry and don't fully understand it. So I do apologize and admit I am wrong. Sorry for jumping on you and assuming you were a prima donna ex-contract girl. You have definitely got my respect.

What's up Kylie. I just picked up Nina Hartley's Private Sessions 3, and I thought you did a good scene. That was some pretty hardcore shit, and I wouldn't call you a "prima donna" after that.

I don't really have any comment about the condom thing, but I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents about your scene.

Thanks.

Hmmmm... The condom thing. Well, I am not a big fan of condoms but can tolerate them here and there. I totally respect a talents choice not use them or to use them. I have heard some talent have a short list of people they will work with to try and minimize the risks involved. Of course I would have a hard time meeting some one for the first time and having sex with them without a condom and am sure some porn stars feel the same way. I am sure getting HIV tested every month for 10 years and hoping that you aren't the "Next" one is not a fun way to live your life. There are up sides to being a porn star but the "what if" is one of the downsides.

Wow, where to begin...

As for the main topic of this thread, VCA initiated a "condom optional" policy about a year ago and before the recent management changes. We leave the use of condoms entirely up to the performers and on a scene to scene basis. Condom preference is not used to determine casting. We will cast the best performer for every role and will not deny a role to someone just because they prefer condoms. At this point, you might find a condom in 1 out every 8-10 scenes and rarely more than one in any movie.

As for Kylie, she is one of the most professional, personable and downright enjoyable people (both on and off camera) I have had the pleasure to work with in this industry.

As for the motives and future of VCA. We will continue dedicate ourselves, as we always have, to bring you the highest quality adult entertainment possible - in whatever format it takes.

Thank you all for your comments on this site, your input is invaluable to us.

Cheers,

Wit Maverick

I don't know if VCA started the non-condom policy again but I think it will be safe because whenever I see a VCA movie it's like Evan Stone and Randy Spears working with the same girls so fuck it.
