It looks like after all these years, VCX is starting to think of the customer. In their Yahoo group VCX has stated that they are finished with the DVD-R's and that they are looking into redoing some of the flawed editions they've put out in the past. Including releasing Little Girls Blue - Part 1 and Little Girls Blue - Part 2 as the original seperate films instead of the hack job that is called Girls in Blue - Parts 1 & 2. I hope that they end up following up with the promises they are making.
That would be great news! I'd love to see Little Girls Blue restored! A lot of care went in to making that film, it deserves to be released in its entirety.
Yes it would be great to see both those films restored. Hopefully if they do they can find a better master than the one used for the first part in Girls in Blue as that was in pretty bad shape. From some of their responses to threads in their Yahoo group and from a recent e-mail conversation I've had with a member of their company, it really sounds like VCX is turning things around there and becoming more customer oriented. I'm glad they are turning things around since they have the best library of classic films out there.
Flash, have any other titles been mentioned with regards to reissues? The current edition of Through The Looking Glass , which I consider that to be one of the high-water marks of adult cinema, is abysmal. I've also seen The Devil In Miss Jones in far better shape than the VCX disc.
I've been very critical of VCX (among others) in the past but their output has improved significantly in the last year or two. I've been perfectly happy with the quality of Bad Girls , F and Reflections , for example. It's a shame they ever bothered with DVD-R's though. I can't see it being economically viable to release pressed editions of these movies now, so we're likely to be stuck with temperamental, semi-professional releases of some genuine classics.
The only title that they have mentioned that they are looking at revisiting so far is Little Girls Blue 1 & 2. And they aren't promising that they are going to revisit it, just looking at if it is possible. I've mentioned Through the Looking Glass to them as a problematic title (along with Girls on Fire, Loose Times at Ridley High, Irresistible and several others). I never mentioned Devil in Miss Jones as I thought that as far as their discs went the quality of that one is rather decent. As far as the DVD-R's are concerned apparently every title that was released on them is now on a pressed disc from my understanding. Over the last year their quality seems to be improving. The stupid problems that plagued their old releases appeared to have died down/gone away.
This really surprises me but might explain why my copy of F , which I'd assumed would be a DVD-R, is actually a pressed disk. I don't suppose there's any way of telling from the packaging, though. I've been planning to get Surrender in Paradise but have hesitated because I've had problems with DVD-R's freezing (etc).
Some of the box covers seem to have changed others look exactly the same, so there doesn't appear to be a definite way to tell. Surrender in Paradise is on a DVD 5 now, I'm sure if you e-mail the stores they'll tell you if they recently aquired the stock or not.
According to VCX's web site, they are releasing Little Girls Blue - Part 1 and Little Girls Blue - Part 2 on January 28th, 2005. They are available as single film discs and as a box set with the two. According to the box set the films are uncut. I hope the video for Part 1 is much better than it was in the Girls in Blue - Parts 1 & 2 release as it was rather poor there.
