They're not.
They still come from tapes, not prints, and they have bugs!
That said, Little Orphan Dusty was released with the fisting intact but it's still missing the golden shower.
Another rip-off.

The one for Expensive Taste is remastered. The few seconds of another title that appeared in it is no longer there. Remastered doesn't mean taken from a film print. It means that the master being used was remade. You can make a new master from a tape.
That being said, it's too bad that they aren't going back to film prints to remaster them. It doesn't surprise me that a golden shower scene is missing. Which ones still have bugs and what are they? I've been meaning to pick up Girls on Fire since the first one was hacked to pieces and the master used was a mess. I hope that one isn't one of the ones that's still buggy.

Yes, Girls on Fire appeals to me as well. The first release was apparently dreadful so I avoided it completely. As far as the bugs go, I think John is referring to the watermarks VCX has (apparently) chosen to add to this line.
With regards to the sources of these disks, I appreciate what you say about remastering not necessarily referring to film prints but I think it's a bit disingenuous to release a 'remastered' line taken from tape sources: the results are always going to be soft and lacking in detail.

Yes, I was referring to watermarks. As far as I'm concerned, it's the same as bugging.
In so far as the tape v. film issue, true, as Flash said, if a "master" be it tape or film is enhanced and corrected the release is technically remastered. That said, since a tape can never look s good as film, VCX is banking on the term "remastered" to get people interested in picking up these new releases while not doing a full remastering job and giving people their money's worth.
Here are a couple reviews of the "remastered" Cal Vista titles now being put out by VCX that give you an idea of the general quality of the releases:

It's inspiring to think there's a decently edited version out there at least of the Ginger Lynn/John Holmes (in a dress) scene. I've had that disk for years and this scene seems to be butchered even beyond porn norms (it coulda been a contendah).
Thanks, Flash. Guess I can keep an eye out for the remastered edition by checking VCX's site now and then, huh?

It's been available in the "remastered" version for a while now.
GirlsOnFireRemastered.jpgI just don't know what has been fixed and what hasn't. I've been meaning to check with Adult DVD Empire to see if they have the remastered version in stock yet or if they still have the original edition.
I agree that it's cheap that VCX is using tape to create their remastered series, especially since on their site they have the Media Blasters editions in the remastered category, which I expect will cause people to pick up these thinking they will be of the same condition. However, on the other side, I'm glad some of these are getting some of their problems fixed. Damn double edged sword.
I expected the VCX CalVista releases to look similar to the NuTech Digital releases sans any extras produced by NuTech Digital. CalVista leased the masters that NuTech used to them and NuTech produced the extras. After NuTech stopped producing this series CalVista leased the masters to VCX. I expect they are the same masters. The extras wouldn't be owned by CalVista so VCX would have to buy or lease them separately from NuTech. As most VCX titles are bare bones releases it doesn't surprise me that these are as well. I'm still excited to see what they release when they get through the ones that NuTech released as supposedly they have leased the rights to more titles than what NuTech ever released from CalVista.
I'm also excited to see how Johnny Wadd looks as that one supposedly is mastered off of a film print. I'm happy they found one as several years back when I talked to them about that title they didn't have any masters at all for it.

It comes from Bob Chinn's original answer print that he found by accident in his garage.
This release I am excited about. Chinn did a commentary track for it which should be great.

I'm looking forward to Nothing To Hide & Suziesuperstar.
I also wish VCX could get the rest of Cecil Howards films on dvd,
it would be great if he could give commentary on them like he did
with Neon Nights & Babylon Pink.
That Johnny Wadd release sounds very interesting.

VCX didn't release the Command titles that came out. Media Blasters did through a now apparently defunct line called Raincoat Theater. VCX distributed the titles for Media Blasters, which is why their name appears on many sites. I don't believe they started acting as distributor until when Debbie Does Dallas and The Devil in Miss Jones came out.

It would be great if VCX could acquire the rest of the Command titles.
Cecil Howard is my all time favorite director,it would be shame if all
his great work didn't eventually make it to dvd.It would be great to hear
the commentary on the rest of his films.I have always been fascinated with
Cecil Howard and anytime you can learn anything new I'm always interested.

I may change my mind on this after seeing Johnny Wadd but at the time I'd actually prefer they don't. My understanding is Cecil Howard has film masters for all of his movies. VCX tends to release off of video tape masters, which have a soft look. I try not to slam them on it because I don't know what titles still have film masters that VCX owns and what shape they are in. My understanding is that Cecil Howard's masters are in good shape so I would prefer to see a company like After Hours Cinema release them as they appear to be the type of company that would utilize the film master.

I should probably add that if Cecil wanted to make the discs himself and just use VCX as a distributor like Media Blasters did I would be all for that. I think that is what should be done with the Thundercrack title, since supposedly they are just shopping for the distributor, that will probably appear in 2025, one year after DVD is no longer used.

Flash you are absolutely right that would be the way to go,
have Cecil Howard make the disc and then have VCX distribute it.
Cecil Howard would do a far better job than VCX could ever do.
