It hurts me to see girls go through a similar experience I went through. I very, very briefly was with Matrix Models and while I think John is a better person than a lot of agents in the business, as an agent he's horrible. The reality is, yes, there will be women who are just naturally going to get booked more based on looks. If you're petite and tiny, if you have no tattoos, if you're 18, if you have big boobs, ect... Agencies can't force production companies to book you, they can only promote you to help you get work. But John doesn't do that. He only focuses on the bigger names on his roster and doesn't actively try to get anyone work. Even some of the bigger names with Matrix have told me they mostly just self-book because John doesn't make sure details of shoots are covered. You would think since he makes money from other girls making money that he would try harder, but he just doesn't really give a shit that much. He knows there's a few production companies that will work with any girl he gives them, so he takes his agency fee and rent for the model house and goes on his way. My other problem with Matrix specifically is that John refuses to book a girl for a B/G scene below a certain rate... I think he does this to maintain a certain "elitist" image with his agency, but this can become problematic because there's certain production companies that simply won't book a non-established talent for higher than x rate. If a company wanted to shoot you for lower, there's still a chance they might like working with you/your scene does great so they bring you back for more shoots. If you never get that opportunity though and don't build a resume... you get where I'm going with this. Given it costs about 1k for a 2-week LA trip (counting for plane tickets, rent, testing, food ect), if a girl gets 2 or 3 shoots, she's barely made anything. It should be the models choice, and I'm sure a girl would rather get 5-6 shoots for a lower rate than barely get any at all.
Talking about shooting people in the face and hoping everyone dies is absolutely uncalled for, and that type of attitude won't get you far in the industry. Unfortunately, for anyone who isn't the standard seller to "make it" in the industry, they have to swallow their pride and be perfect at the shoots they do get. They have to wait it out and get connects in the industry and market themselves to them. The industry will deal will drug issues, drama queens, divas, unreliable issues ect if a girl is marketable off the bat... but if she's not, she better be the best damn performer she can be.
Her video about producers booking her and then talking about another performer they'd "rather" have there is 100% accurate too, I had to laugh at that one. When I went to LA, going on go-sees to production companies, getting pictures taken, ect, I can't tell you how many times I felt like they would just rather have x talent or y talent there instead of me. Producers taking photos of me while talking about another model of Johns...
I just think agents can be dishonest and women who want to do this need to know the reality of it- it's not guaranteed work, LA trips cost a lot, you're not going to make substantial money doing G/G and solo only if you don't look like a Victoria's Secret model... you're probably not going to make good money if you're a not-so-perfect pretty girl unless you do hardcore scenes, anal ect and are willing to do it all.
