I have noticed that some new movies are being simultaneously released in DVD and VHS formats. I've heard that one of the reasons for not releasing VHS and DVDs togehter is avoid flooding the market. Is this true and does it make sense? I don't buy VHS anymore and will wait for the DVD release however long this might take. Are there people on this site that buy both formats?

Once you got a dvd player it makes absolutely no sense to me to ever again buy a vhs tape, now I might rent one if the dvd won't be released for several months but no I wouldn't ever buy vhs again. The advantages to dvds over vhs are just vast, don't have to rewind, can jump to your favorite scene, the extras, etc. Anyone who doesn't have a dvd player I would highly recommend getting one when you can they are awesome. Now I don't think you can record on dvd like vhs yet but I am sure you will be able to in the very near future.

Actually the impression I am getting for the later release dates is getting the dvd's made. Apparently there are still few places that can do it properly (when compared to vhs) and they are back logged. Also in some cases adult companies have a hard time getting disc's made because of the relatively small size of their orders (when compared to a major motion picture).
While it is uncommon for me to buy a vhs tape anymore I do still pick some up due to the fact that the movie in question isn't slated for release on dvd at all. A good example of this is Juli Ashton's own movies under her Ashton View Promotions thru Wicked. She is trying to get dvd's but currently can't for the reasons above and so there is no release date for a dvd in the foreseeable future.

Since I got a dvd player, there's absolutely no point in buying VHS at all. Video is still good to tape Simpsons and such off TV, but there's no way I'll buy amovie (adult or otherwise) on VHS.

There are enough dvd titles out there that anything not released on dvd just misses out on my purchase, I'm afraid. That applies to both Juli Ashton and Starwars on VHS for me.

cheers,

scipio

Thanks lee_carver for the info on Juli Ashton. I was wondering when her Ashton View Production movies were going to be released on DVD. That they are not to be released in the forseeable future is bad news. I have not seen any reviews on these movies. How are they? Thanks.

Most adult companies have extensive VHS catalogs, and therefore the producers have to pick and choose which movies get made into DVDs.
We try to be up-front at Evil Angel so that people know if a VHS tape will be made into a DVD. All of Rocco Siffredi and Christoph Clark tapes which come out from now on will be released on DVD either day and date or within one month of VHS release date if there is a scheduling problem. All John Leslie new tapes will come out within 6 weeks of VHS street date. Most of John Stagliano/Buttman tapes will be day and date or one month later. Joey Silvera tapes will vary, depending on the series and the title.

I too pretty much only use my VCRs for taping, and if I didn't work at Evil Angel,I would probably plan on getting rid of my VCR altogether once DVD-recording off of TV becomes a good option.

Thanks Tricia for letting us know about how Evil Angel is doing their dvds and vhs releases. It will be nice when we can use dvd to record off tv because that will be one less electronic device you will need. And if I get a Playstation 2 then I might be able to get rid of the dvd player I have now but that is down the road a bit when they become a bit cheaper.

Sorry, folks, but someone has to say it -- I will never buy or rent any Vivid DVD prodsuct (NOT a typo), at least until they stop sacrificing half or more of the feature for their excremental extras and multiple angles. I continue to buy/rent their VHS versions, so I can watch the entire feature!

atome12 - At the January show Juli said she had some plans that might get her movies out on DVD this year but nothing was confirmed. Aston View Promotions has a good gonzo product though Juli is still growing into the producer / director roll.
