A letter to the ladies who have suffered from vibrator failure, and of course it only fails when you are really depending on it. You pay lots for them, and very seldom have I seen any kind of warranty, kind of a throw away item, which can leave you pissed off to say the least. My girlfriend had this problem with a toy, so we decided to take it apart, it was a bullet, so with gentle prying, we got this thing open and to our delight... found a broken wire, so I bought this very small (point) soldering gun, and fixed this wire, and off it went.......works perfect and has been doing so for over a year now. So if you are in distress over a non working toy, it may be very simple to fix, something you could do yourself or perhaps you know someone with minor electrical skills, that could fix the problem.....good luck S
Heeheehee! Working in a sex shop, I come across stories like this everyday. One of our policies is to "road test" every single toy that goes out the door. It may break after 2 or 3 uses, but if we sold it, it worked when you bought it. You know it worked, because much to your embarrassment or amusement (depending on your outlook), we popped batteries in it right there at the counter before you bought it.
Some toys do come with warranties. California Exotics and Doc Johnson products often do. These are generally good products, from good companies that have been in the sex-toy business for decades.
Another company that offers a warranty is Golden Triangle. Avoid that company at all costs. Don't let the warranty fool you. It's only a 15-day warranty, and the toy will drop dead on the 16th day you own it. Invest in a better product.
That said, the more complex the toy, the greater the possibility of failure. "Rabbits" are notorious for this, because they have a) a vibrating bullet, b) a shaft that oscilates in both directions, and c) a cylinder of ball-bearings or beads that rotate. The more moving parts, the more likely the toy will break down in some manner.
In general, all a girl needs is a dildo that pleases her (her desired width, length and hardness), a pocket-rocket or bullet for clitoral stimulation, and maybe a butt-plug for added fullness. Anything else is a novelty and should be expected to be temporary. Unless of course it's a $1700 Sybian, in which case she need never purchase another toy in her lifetime, and can probably give up all human relationships and still die happy.
I bet you do see some interesting things working in a sex shop, it is always a wise decision to have toys checked for operation for sure, I guess some of them are just not suited for the long run, and like you say...the more complex it is, the more likely it is too fail, but bullets are very easy to work on, in the case of this particular toy, it contained two bullets, and both gave trouble, but it is in good operating condition now......S
This thread made my day. it was funny and interesting and educational. i can see it in the future - a sex toy repair person. Just like a pumber or something. That would be rad.
Whenever my wife has one break we tear it down and scavenge the parts (particularly the on/off/variable switches). Then we have replacement parts available when the next one breaks. However, this works because we tend to repeat buy the same vibrators (but we are very hard on them)!
