I've been a member of videobox for almost three years now. I pay yearly because that's the cheapest way and makes the most sense for me. But, I'm thinking this next time around I'll likely pass. It seems like the quality of downloads has really gone down and then the other issue is the high volume of corrupt downloads that never get fixed. Seriously, it happens constantly and people complain in the comments, but no one fixes it. And so, I'll likely pass on renewing this time around. Anyway, I'm curious how other people see it.
I've been a member of VIDEOBOX for a little over a year or so. I think in some ways they've gotten bettter since I've joined. When I first joined they had lots of technical problems with the site. Lots of freezing up, sometimes you couldn't add or delete movies from folders, new movies didn't show up on time, movies that just wouldn't play and the search engine was almost useless at times. I don't actually download any movies, I only stream stuff to my ROKU and the streaming has gotten much better. The streaming menu that appears on my tv is much better and offers much more options than it did originally. So for me personally for what I do on VB the site has made major improvements technically. I see that some people on the site complain about the movies, or rather the lack of "quality" movies being added daily. I admit that there are days that they add movies I have zero interest in but there are many more days when I think they do okay overall. And even with the movies I have no interest in I wouldn't say most of them are crappy movies as much as they are movies that don't have girls I'm interesting in watching. I think their daily updates are representive of what comes out in porn in general...some good, some okay, and some bad. But to be honest, their library of movies is so big that there's tons of good stuff I haven't watched yet and probably will never get to I can overlook the "bad" stuff. I currently have the EVIL ANGEL channel and I'm pretty happy with it. They've cut back adding "new" movies from every other day to 3 times a week but otherwise I have nothing to complain about. I'm sometimes surprised at how new some of the movies they add are. I'm thinking about adding the VIVID channel to my subscription for a few months. I'm not a huge VIVID fan but I see they have a big library of movies/girls I'm a fan of and it would cost much more to try and buy DVDs of all the stuff they have I'd like to see. They recently added an ELEGANT ANGEL and JAV channel. The EA library looks good but for me it's not worth a subscription because they don't have enough movies yet. I'm not a big fan of JAV except for certain girls so I have no interest in it. I want to try KINK but I think it's too expensive for what they offer. The REALITY KINGS looks okay but not worth a subscription to me. No complaints for VIDEOBOX from me. That may change a year down the road because there isn't as much new porn being made today and they won't be able to sustain adding 5 "new" movies daily. But there are still many great studios they could add to their basic package and keep the quailty up. I'd love to see them add WESTCOAST PRODUCTIONS, DEVIL"S FILM, KILLERGRAM, BANGBROS, etc...and of the studios they do offer many of them still has plenty of good stuff they haven't added to the site for whatever reason. My needs and concerns are probably different from yours so I don't have the issues you do.
Well they said in a blog, that they are running out of movies and it is harder and harder to lisence movies unless it is a premium channel like Evil angel or Eleganr Angel is. They said they cant keep adding 5 dvds a day forever. But still they are missing lots of older quality movies ike many red light district etc movies they could probably license. many series they have are missing titles still.
Have not subscribed in a long time, but years ago I thought they could do with half as many movies and concentrate on quality. It looks like they never went 1080p HD.
Of course VB is running out of new movies because they are updating with a lot more movies than are being produced in the industry. Add to their problem the fact that many studios now have their own video sites and they certainly don't want to give VB access to their newer titles right away since they can make a lot more money with a membership to their sites rater than the money VB would give them. I think updating with older content would be an amazing thing but unless they are willing to remaster those movies than you can just imagine the complaints they will get on a daily basis. People have been bitching to VB for years that they want HD content. They certainly won't be happy with mediocre resolution on an older print.

You mention remastering older titles here. I assume what you're referring to is applying some sort of technology to the video to make it more like HD. I wonder how difficult/expensive that is because I've thought for some time that if they could do that, it would potentially open a huge market for them with their exising library.

I wish this hadn't been moved to the shopping forum. I understand you guys are doing the best you can to keep topics organized, but is every discussion involving a web site automatically considered "shopping"?
I believe most store reps that come here mainly look in shopping. Therefore if it is related to issues that need user end fixing I generally send them to tech talk where people can help fix it. If it is related to quality issues I send it to shopping where there is the greatest chance a store rep may see it. If it is about the actual titles there I usually leave in The Porn Pool.

Thanks for the response, and that does actually make a lot of sense.
Yeah, they actually have a lot of good studios but for some reason with a lot of them they have only put out a small percentage of that studio's library. I know they don't want to toss out all the stronger stuff at once but some of the studios they have they've barely put stuff out from them. I wonder if when they get a license for that company/studio they don't have the rights or access to certain directors work. Like with the JULES JORDAN studio stuff they don't have the rights to Jules' or Alexander Devoe's movies or with EVIL ANGEL they don't offer Rocco's movies. But with some of the older studios I find it hard to image that would be the case...but perhaps it is.
I don't know if Videobox has changed it, but they used to buy rights per movie (except for the studiochannels, those are revenueshare I think), so it is likely that they just don't have the rights to all movies of a certain studio. And since they only paid a one time (not very large) fee for those rights many studios are just not interested in adding more titles. Jacco
^ Thanks for your response. That would explain things. I just assumed when they bought the rights to a typical studio they bought the entire catalog for a lump sum. Seems strange to go in and just pick movies one by one. If what you say is true some of the choices made seem a bit strange though.
Videobox is not going to studios and says, I want this movie and this one. The studios (maybe via a content broker) put the rights for certain titles (usually their older titles) up for sale. And it gets even more complicated with companies reselling rights they bought, whether they are allowed to or not. Jacco
Actually remastering is more like cleaning the video up by removing some of the static on the print. It's not really possible to transform a movie that was filmed in normal resolution into High Def. All you would manage to do is make the movie look worse. I am pretty sure that the cost of remastering older video is pretty high and that's why you don't see much of that.
I have been a huge fan of VB for a long time, but am now disappointed in one thing. I added Evil Angel as a premium channel for $ 15 a month, only to find out their videos are NOT in HD! I could have joined EA as a separate website for almost the same price, gotten HD and more content. Really Pissed Off about this.

If you go on to your account SUCKER4NICETITS you will be able to stop the EA premium channel at the end of the month. I have been a member of VB for 4 years and of late have been very disappointed with the updates, many are bargain bin movies that never sell, collect dust and thrown away. I have had to join the premium channels to access better quality updates, I usually join for a month and download my favorite girls scenes then unsubscribe. Doing this every 6 months allows movies to build up so you can cherry pick, but you need willpower as sometimes a great movie gets loaded 2 days after you unsubscribe. There are still 1000's of fairly good movies out there that VB could load to their basic channel, but I think they are updating with below average movies to push members to pay for the premium channels at a single click of a button. The reason I asked is because they put a DVD up in "HD" recently that I'm pretty sure wasn't shot in HD. The title in question is Lewd Conduct 15, which came out in 2002. But, I tested one of the scenes on my big screen and it was pretty good - believably 720P. So, somebody did something with the image quality to improve it enough for it to play quite well on a large flatscrren, in my case I have a 46" LCD that's about 3 years old. I'd like to learn more about this stuff.

^ There was a period of time where some studios were shooting the scenes in "HD" -- even though they were not mastering or releasing the movies on Blu-ray (or, at the time, HD DVD). Quasarman, I believe, commented on this here on ADT. Paraphrasing, it was something like: they felt it was necessary to have the content filmed in HD -- as HD was the inevitable future -- even though movies were still being released on DVD (until Blu-ray and/or HD DVD reached mainstream acceptance and became economically marketable). Otherwise, the content would become dated and less marketable down-the-road. Remember, in the beginning, Blu-ray and HD DVD were in a "VHS vs. Betamax" battle and consumers were slow to adapt either until the format war was settled. Also, the hardware (i.e. players) and movies were very expensive when they first came out. It's possible that your Lewd Conduct #15 example may be just such an example of content finally being released in HD (even though the original DVD releases weren't). Remember, at the time, a whole lot of physical movie disks were still being sold, and being sold as DVDs. High definition optical disc format war A format war took place in 2002 - 2008 between the Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD optical disc standards for storing high definition video and audio. Have recently been shopping between videobox.com and other sites. Videobox seems elusive with what is offered for content. Unable to do much looking around without getting the usual "join our site NOW!" screen. Videoz will allow a non-member to see extensive listings of what they offer. Which is better?

Actually, Videobox will allow you to look at every single DVD they have on the site and search the site (if you want) before you join. You just have to use their old interface. It's not clear from your site - are the videos available for download and offline viewing - or just streaming (it sounds like the latter). I prefer to browse/download and view offline later as I have an unpredictable and relatively slow internet connection. I was previously a member of Videobox - and whilst their content is ok - it gets a little samey/tame - most of thebest vids they have are on their premium channels. I have looked at Videoz.com too and they seem to have more niche/interesting subjects.
