Your list looks excellent, BTW. You've included several titles that I really wish I'd thought of. After seeing your selections, I do want to clarify (in case you haven't seen it) that Tell Me What You Want is probably at the softer end of the Vixen range (though definitely too hard for the Venus range).

On second thought, I see some more anomalies, or at least choices which lend themselves to debate. "Assman" and "Euro Hardball" in the same category as "Tell Me What You Want"? A category that can hold these 3 seems to me a bit too broad. There are other examples, but it is kind of pointless to debate all these choices. This kind of discussion will always present itself with these kind of qualitative (as opposed to quantitative) interpretative ontological classification systems. I think your choices are just fine, as long as you can explain them in a reasonable way, which I am sure you can.

Porn Virgin - i.e. Never seen porn.

Devil In Miss Jones - A great film, but it includes an anal and a DP. Most people would consider those acts at least a little nasty, which would put DIMJ in the Vixen category.

Porn Venus - i.e. Likes the more 'loving' aspect of porn

Deep Throat - The top-selling adult film of all-time, but it's not a loving type of film. It also includes at least one anal.

Seymore Butts/Shanes World/Ed Powers Series - They don't really have a loving aspect particularly (at least not in the romantic sense). Plus, as Walter pointed out, Seymore Butts movies (and to a lesser extent, Ed Powers movies) tend to have a heavy emphasis on anal, which falls in the definition of Vixen.

Porn Vixen - i.e. Likes to get a little 'nasty'.

Tell Me What You Want - I've never seen this one, but would defer to Walter's judgment, who as a porn historian, knows more about porn than most of us ever will.

Porn Vamp - i.e. Unshockable...or so she thinks.

Since you're basing the category assignations partly by our suggestions, I think Justine 2 would safe for a porn virgin. It's one of the few films that I feel comfortable recommending to just about anyone.

Also, men LOVE Private, but from what I've seen and read, Gladiator is typically filled with beautiful vacuous females and dubbed sex sounds. I just don't think Private is a good choice for a female's list.

But, I wouldn't recommend Gladiator for men or women's lists. It is incredibly boring and the sex is devoid of any form of emotion. And this is coming from the guy who is probably the biggest (or maybe 2nd biggest GM) Adamo fan on ADT.

But that doesn't mean that you should write off Private or Adamo. I would recommend Italian Flair or Fashion for men or women that want to watch hardcore sex in a beautiful and basically non-threatening enviroment.

When Seymore hooked up with Alish Klass, that's when he became very "anal-centric". I was a HUGE Seymore fan until the Alisha Klass period. I only saw a few with Alisha, but that's only because of the occasional performer that I couldn't resist. From the ones that I have seen, the Alisha period Seymore became a lot harder and the series had less of that "hanging out with Seymore & his friends" feel.

So, while I think Seymore Butts movies, when taken as a whole, could probably fit into either category. I think that they should actually be split between the categories based on time frame pre-Alisha and Alisha.

I agree with some of the points stated above, so I will try explain my reasoning behind these choices, keeping in mind this is for the UK market, I have to write this all in 150 words (cough!!) and I have to choose four films for each category.

A few of the Films/Directors I have chosen in some categories lead into harder films in other categories. From the Shane's World/ Seymore/Powers work I have seen, although they do anal, they seem to refrain from Ben Dover's current direction that now frequently includes ATM and pissing - this nudged him out of the Venus category and into Vixen. I am not a big fan of Shane/Seymore and Ed so don't really watch their films anymore, so perhaps I am wrong about this classification. The Porn Venus genre, again is hard to define - some would argue that 'loving' porn is verging on softcore. I was however trying to find Films that all though may have stronger sex, also had a good storyline to dilute the sex or at least a different approach to standard storylines (i.e Gonzo). I am however inclined to agree on reflection with Pontus Maximus regarding 'Devil in Miss Jones' - I think perhaps it is a little dark on reflection, though not perhaps hard enough for the Porn Vixen category. This is one of the first porn films I watched in the company of my partner and I thought it was great, but it is a film that sits on the edge of both Venus/Vixen. As for Private Gladiator I personally hated it, but I figured it was a safe bet for this category.

For the Vixen section, well this included regular elements of fetish, DP's, ATM, hard anal, spitting, gagging/throttling, 'Gaping' and anal gang bangs and there are so many to choose from in this category, I went for titles from a cross section of Studios/Directors.

Finally Vamp, which is just about as far as I want to go on this article and watch in real life (the DP fisting scene in Maximum Perversum still haunts me though I did find Kelly Stafford oral antics at the old people's home in Dirty Anal Kelly Does Rome 2..you need volume! - hilarious. Not sure what that says about my sense of humour though!

Anyway, please feel free to add any other thoughts. I do know two things, trying to fit the entire library of porn films into 4 categories is pretty impossible, and secondly it would take a pretty clued up guy to buy something his girlfriend will like on his very first attempt, but I hope they at least try!

Women I've watched porn with always responded well to Buttman titles: they liked the humor, and they loved Rocco, or, at least, his dick, and his funny broken English. Scenes of good, old-fashioned, straight-up, raw fucking always connected. Women I know seem to like The Fashionistas a lot, too. And "Golden Age" porn may be the most liked type of porn among women in my experience.

Least liked: Ed Powers (I once ruined a whole party by throwing on an Ed vid .... hee hee). Randy West seems to repel/gross out folks as well.

Just wanted to say I really liked Skronker's recent post. It's one that resonates with me. Even though I haven't seen that many Private films, all that I have seen have had me watching most of them on fast-forward, and quickly returning or trading in the discs. I'm sure there must be some good ones out there, I just haven't seen them yet. And the overdubbing, as often pointed out, is so bad as to be in the realm of bad comedy-people that aren't interested in sex faking having sex is how I hear it.

Concerning the Buttman discs and how women view them, I have to agree again with Skronker and say that the few women I personally know that have seen them thought they were great. Women like humor! Who knew? They also seem to like men like Rocco with good haircuts. Something about the actors goofing off and talking to the director/camera really took the edge off for these women, who weren't what you'd call porn fans. I'm not sure you'd say they were all that turned on by the films, but they did enjoy them, and they did like to talk about the films in a positive manner after they were over, and that's a good thing.

Also, while some of those Adam and Eve films are hot and interesting, some of them are very dull. Be careful about showing them. They may appear newbie friendly, but a boring film is of no use to anyone.

Also, I like Yogagrrl's recommendation of the Fashionistas. Such hot sex, even this hardcore, will be convincing in its own way. Be sure also to listen to the commentary track, which greatly helps put the BDSM in the perspective of role playing/fun/acting/athletics.

Did anybody recommend the first Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex yet? Great film, I think.
