ADT is trying to be sensitive to any unnecessary bandwidth taxing regardless of whether it's on ADT servers or not. In addition we are trying to be sensitive to the people out there who are still using modems. Why should repeat visitors to the thread have to sit there and wait for all the images to load yet again when they've already seen them once? A third reason is that on many occasions the images themselves are so large as to distort the forum layout to the point where unneccessary left to right scrolling has to occur to read every message in the thread.
I appreciate that embedded images are more flashy than simple links, and avatars within the specified parameters are still welcome, but the links get the point across just as easily as embedded images without the additional headaches of bandwidth issues, as well as, in some cases, a few legal ones.
