Has anyone seen any of the new Vinegar Syndrome releases? If so are they any good? What is the quality of the print? The releases I know of are: First Time/Oriental Babysitter Expectations/Confessions Sexualist/Wendy's Palace Vixens of Kung Fu/Oriental Blue Virgin and the Lover/Lustful Feelings
I've got Expectations/Confessions and Vixens of Kung Fu/Oriental Blue so far and ordered Virgin and the Lover/Lustful Feelings. Vinegar Syndrome claim they are 2k scans from 35mm theatrical prints and to be fair they look like it. They are uniformly very good. I assume they are on dvd rather than blu-ray due to low volumes likely to be sold in, as VS do produce some films in Blu-ray. You can buy with confidence.
Seeing as I run Vinegar Syndrome, I can tell you first hand that the DVD vs Blu decision is based on cost constraints rather than quality. However, all of the films you mentioned as well as all of the titles we're planning to release are being sourced from either good, complete prints or from original negatives. WENDY'S PALACE/SEXUALIST, VIXENS/ORIENTAL, and VIRGIN/FEELINGS were sourced from negatives and look amazing. The other came from good, uncut 35mm prints and represent by far the best home video presentations these films have ever had (and probably will ever have) . The VIXENS/ORIENTAL disc was done in cooperation with Distribpix, who we do all film scanning for, so everything is up to Steven's quality standards. Together with Distribpix, we're planning on blasting out over 30 more XXX double features in 2014, including some great special editions of classic all-male films. I've gotten the Widow Blue!/Evil Come, Evil Go/Oh, You Beautiful Doll! Triple Feature (it looks unbelievable compared to the Something Awful releases) and The Jekyll and Hyde Portfolio/A Clockwork Blue Double Feature (came in today).
When is the next limited edition blu-ray coming out? I had no idea of this limited release until I saw it in this thread and just ran to Diabolik and grabbed one.
Is there a listing of which of the Vinegar Syndrome titles are adult films and which are not? Also, was some sort of distribution deal done with Troma? I see several of their past releases there? If so is there any chance that the sometimes denied, sometimes alluded to, Troma adult films will get a release?
Really looking forward to that. Here's hoping it's one of the DeRenzy classics. Speaking of which, are we likely to see Pleasure Masters amongst these releases? That one's a personal favourite of mine.
We are doing DeRenzy films however a number of his key titles are problematic in terms of finding good elements. Among them, for now, is PLEASURE MASTERS. I'm hoping to do a double feature of PLEASURE MASTERS and FANTASY GIRLS (for which we have nice elements). Our first DeRenzy release is PRETTY PEACHES 2/PRETTY PEACHES 3, both of which have been sourced from their camera negatives.
Yes, that one's already on my radar. I'm a big fan of Pretty Peaches 2 and still have the uncut LaserDisc release from the early '90s. An easy upgrade decision, with your release being a 2K scan from the negative and OAR (the LD was 4:3). How about Baby Face 1 & 2? Do you have decent elements for those?
I thought some of you may be excited to know that we bought the rights to all of Chris Warfield's films (with the exception of the 4 he sold to Kit Parker). We're gonna be releasing them starting in June. The first is a double feature of BABY ROSEMARY and HOT LUNCH, both restored from the camera negs, then in July we have ALL NIGHT LONG and TAPESTRY OF PASSION, also restored from the camera negs. August is looking like CATHOUSE FEVER and PURELY PHYSICAL...
I have to say I am really impressed with the quality of the releases I have seen so far. I have reviews up now for Jungle Blue and the All Night Long and Tapestry of Passion double feature. Not all the films may have been the best, but the picture and audio quality of the releases has been amazing!
Tapestry is a great film and beautiful transfer, its partner on the disc All Night Long, was a mediocre film but beautiful transfer. I haven't had a chance to pick up the Candy double feature yet.

Anyone seen this print of Winter Heat? I have a very rough boot, it is an intensely dark and joyless film but it does have loads of atmosphere and one of the most disturbing Jamie Gillis performances I've seen. Edited by - BlackSix on 7/17/2014 5:25:16 AM
I have not yet. Tropic of Desire and Fantasy World Double Feature and Abduction of an American Playgirl and Winter Heat Double Feature will probably be the next two of theirs I pick up (unless September announcements bring something I can't wait on). As of now I have the two I have reviewed on this site plus Evil Come Evil Go Triple Feature, Wakefield Poole's Bible!, and The Jekyll and Hyde Portfolio and A Clock Work Blue Limited Edition that I haven't seen. Rock! Shock! Pop! has a review up for Abduction of an American Playgirl and Winter Heat Double Feature that talks about the transfer which he seems very pleased with.
I watched TAPESTRY and I really liked it. Aside from the gorgeous restoration, the film itself is quite unusual in places. And I don't mean the obvious stuff - I mean, certain shots, certain elements of the sex scenes that I can honestly say I've never seen before. Good stuff.

Thanks Flash and GGG. I wasn't familiar with Tapestry, sounds good will have to pick it up along with a number of these. Excited to see new classic releases to check out there's been a bit of a dry spell.

Just checked the screen shots for Winter Heat on Rockshockpop and my god they look good! I think I'm going to be spending a lot of money on this line of releases.
^ They're beautiful. I watched TAPESTRY and loved it. It's creative (seriously impressive directorial work) and erotic, and the restoration is simply sublime. Great stuff.

Argh lost my longer writeups, but I will say that Baby Rosemary looks terrific and is very worthwhile to check out. It's paired with a cute comedy by the same director John Hayes with Desriee Cousteau looking particularly spectacular on film. There's a very good writeup on the director Hayes in Nightmare USA by Stephen Thrower that for once doesn't skip the xxx films of its exploitation directors. Winter Heat doesn't have the same impact on a second viewing but looks as good here as it ever will. Terrible ending and joyless sex scene after sex scene only saved by the remarkable performance by Gillis and the super cute Bree Anthony and Jenny Lane. The ending of the film tries to turn the relentless misogyny of the rest of the film on its ear but comes across more as the truly reprehensible 'and then they start to love it' rape fantasy motif that Weston and Bree Anthony's vastly superior The Taking of Christina literally shoots in the face. BTW there are many disturbing scenes of sexual assault and misogyny in Baby Rosemary but I think that film is intelligently made enough to make those scenes problematic on purpose, whereas Winter Heat just degree zero rape porn. Although it is truly trumped by the likes of Joe Davian's Appointment with Agony, starring Vanessa Del Rio, or Costello's Forced Entry. Both films I saw once on rough boots (the only way they were available at the time). Forced Entry has been put out subsquently in a quality edition but I can't imagine sitting through the horrific scene between Reems and Laura Cannon again. Truly one of the most disturbing scenes I've seem committed to film. Edited by - BlackSix on 8/8/2014 8:13:51 AM
Which four films did you not get? I hope you got Sex World, Champagne for Breakfast and Dixie Ray. What about Teenage Innocence (aka Little Miss Innocence)? A few years ago I saw the 1987 version with Eric Edwards and didn't think it was too bad for late eighties porn. It wasn't until later that I found out it was a remake and have been looking for the original ever since. I've been a fan of John Alderman (Frank Hollowell) for years and would like to see him in a lead role. I recently watched I Am Always Ready and was very impressed with the picture quality. Unbelievably gorgeous for such a low budget trashy film. Edited by - son of dad on 8/22/2014 9:56:00 PM

I've always like Cry for Cindy and it would be great to see Act if Confession in decent quality. That was formerly thought to be a pretty much lost film. Let us know what you think GGG and when/if you post a review. I read your review of Evil Come, Evil Go, a film I always enjoyed and realized it included Sex Psycho under the Widow Blue title and just ordered it. Davis' Sex Psycho is really twisted in an interesting way. I find his roughies very interesting, I like your comparison to Flannery O'Connor in the review, obviously he's a lot more vulgar and the comparison would have horrified O'Connor but there is a real vicious streak of satire that they both share.
Y'all, if you have not yet pledged to their indiegogo campaign, please do so! They're 94% funded and have just 62 hours left. I know we will all use this HD streaming, and the rewards for pledging are membership - so, this is basically like pre-ordering.
