A brief wrap up of events, porn star Violet Blue lost her name, website, and income because of this sex columnist also going as Violet Blue. Though porn star Violet Blue was using the name first since 2000 before the sex columnist had ever published any of her writings.
Violet is married with children, takes care of her elderly parents, makes a bit of money cutting hair, but made most of her money from her website. Everything that has been reported says Violet wasn’t given enough time to fight the trademark case and a judge sided with the sex columnist. Violet then had to change her name and has been going as Noname Jane since.
Now her website http://nonamejane.com/ is announcing a benefit show for the fight to use her original name:

It's a bit of a misstatement to say that the sex columnist is going as Violet Blue. It's her birth name. She has no choice but to go by it, unless she wants to pick a false name because someone else is already using her birth name.
I'm not saying I necessarily agree with all the legal action she took; but I can see the frustration. Imagine if someone was working in a related field to your own, and was using your name. I'd go fuckin' nuts.
Oh, and I'm pretty sure that while she hadn't published any books before 2001, Violet Blue had been writing sex columns for a while before that in newspapers and such, so she did pre-date the porn girl. I think.

I heard Violet Blue is neither their birth names.
But from everything I have read throughout the past months, the columnist claims to have been using the name and writing since 1999. But there is no proof to that. While there is of course proof performer Blue has been using the name since 2000. There was also talk about how someone (columnist Blue) had tried to edit the columnist's Wikipedia page to state that she had been publishing since 1999. But the page was put on lock down or whatever they call it because of so many attempts to edit the page.

^That's weird man. But I'm pretty sure that it really is her (the columnist's) real name.
Here's the columnist's version of the story. To be taken with a grain of salt, of course, because it's only her side.
I did find some comment that said that the columnist legally changed her name to Violet from something else in 1998, but there was no source of means of verifying this. But if true, then even if it wasn't her birth name, it would still pre-date the porn star.

“Hello All! I’ve posted a photo of the flyer for the upcoming benefit show in the photos section of the group under ‘Noname Jane Benefit Show.’ This show is to help raise money to pay my lawyer and other court costs for an ongoing legal battle between me and the author Violet Blue. Me and Violet Blue have shared the same name for the last 8 years. In 2007, while I was pregnant with my daughter she trademarked the name without my knowledge. Soon afterwards she presented me with a lawsuit a mile long, out of Northern California Federal Court. For more information on the lawsuit please visit my wikipedia page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noname_Jane. Thanks!

I wonder why she just doesn't call herself Violet or Violet B. instead of noname jane?
I see Stoya has trademarked her name....seems like a smart young lady.

^Umm, you seem to have missed that a bunch of the Digital Playground contract girls have trademarked names. But it's not the girls who own the trademarks or benefit, it's Digital Playground. Basically, DP is giving those girls a disincentive to ever leave DP, since if they did, they would have to use a different name.

I always confused the two. But, um, honestly, I think the columnist Violet Blue was much more in the news than the pornstar.

Coincidentally, ALS Scan just re-released a scene where Anne Howe (Melissa-Ashley) fisted Noname Jane (back when she was still Purple Azure).
