Hi Boys & Girls, The topic of discussion, if you care to share your opinions, is on the matter of virginity. No doubt that a woman's virginity is prized in many cultures. But what about a man's virginity? How do you react to hearing a man in his 20's or 30's for that matter, not having experience sex yet? Thanks for reading. ~LAP
Someone once noted that men from said cultures prefer virginity -- for they fear comparison, and for a good reason.
By a coincidence of fate, all encounters but one I've ever had, were with ladies for whom I was the first. I wish it were otherwise. The one and only exception opened my eyes to the ladies who know what they want, as far as the encounter is concerned, as well as in life itself.
It doesn't matter when, but how . I'd prefer to have waited longer, than have memories of early nervous encounters haunt me for years.
I don't have any problem with guys who are still virgins in their 20's and beyond. There are many reasons why they would want to wait, ranging from insecurity issues to fear of STD's and so forth. I myself lost my virginity when I was 13 and at the time I thought it was the greatest experience of my life but looking back maybe I should have waited and matured a little more. Might explain why I'm so currently obsessed with sex...
I think I can give the perspective from a guy who is still a virgin in his 30's. First of all, I don't let many people know about this fact. Because I think our culture DOES look down on a man who is still a virgin in the 20's or older. When I was a student at Stanford University many years ago, I accidentally let someone know I was still a virgin. Well, to make the story short. He didn't believe me and gave me a hard time by constantly calling me a liar for saying I'm a virgin. I guess he didn't believe anyone could still be a virgin in his late 20's (that's how old I was when I was a PhD student at Stanford).

either they are gay or are highly intellegent and I fall into the latter category myself. I guess I'm too ugly to be mistaken for being gay! Anyways that's the conclusion I've personally come to after all the males I've come in contact with cuz 99.9% of them will hump the first or for that matter any pussy that is offered to them and if you tell them you turned some down it's like telling them you won the lottery but gave away the winning ticket. Also you have to take into consideration the fact that one of the only purposes we serve is to procreate and to go against that very old and powerful instinct takes a lot of mental effort. p.s. personally I'd like to think my great brainpower helped me keep my virginity for as long as I did but then again not being the greatest looking guy it's not like I was being tempted left and right by the hottest girls. I'd like to think that I could turn down Angelina Jolie if she told me she wanted to fuck my brains out but then again what straight or gay guy could?

I highly respect a man or woman who hold out on the one, I know I did, and I'm GREATFUL for it! Granted I was 16 when I found "The One", but I'm still with her and love her just as much (if not more) now than I did then. I think its interesting , well more ridiculous, that we love to have our girls virgins, but want our boys to be "well traveled". lickalotapus, the way I see it, if you never have sex (which is overrated as I see it and hell I think I have a GOOD sex life!) because you didn't find the right one, then you have my utmost respect - I respect those who don't follow the herd.

I actually don't care if a guy hasn't had sex. One of my neighbors is 27 and hasn't had sex. He came close one night at a party I was having and a few girls were over. I tried to set him up but he was too scared. I really don't know what he's waiting for and find it odd that he'd pass up the great piece of ass that I threw at him but then again everyone has there fears and priorities. He did tell me that he was waiting to fall in love but I asked him, "how are you going to fall in love if you never meet anyone?" He didn't have an answer for me but I do hope he meets someone in the future.
If a woman I cared about told me she was going to marry a man who was a thirty year old virgin, I would be very concerned. My worry would be mainly about what the psychological issues were that had left him in this condition. I can think of many, and all of them bad. Examples are: religious fanaticism, morbid fear of intimacy, childhood abuse, resentment or fear of women.
Any of these conditions might trigger violent, cruel or anti social reactions in him when he eventually attempts to begin a sexual relationship.
Of course these problems wouldn't necessarily occur in every such individual, but the overall probability seems high to me.
Well geez licker, that gives the virgin yet ANOTHER complex!"I could be scared of women, scared of intimacy,a religious fanatic,or heck,a psycopath waiting to explode!"
Most of the guys I've run into who are in their mid 20's and still virgins are choosing to wait based on religion or their upbringing(which is not always religion influenced).Alot of guys are indeed, waiting for "the one".
Hey to each their own, whatever. But don't listen to me,I don't even know how vaginas work!
I have respect for a man that choses to wait. I was the last of my peer group to have sex at 16. I had chances before then, but honestly I was a little scared. I felt so much pressure that when I finally caved because of it. My number one goal then became to sleep with as many girls as I could because it was the "cool" thing to do. Say anything or do anything to to get laid. I put myself at risk of disease and hurt alot of girls feelings with countless lies. So my point is, waiting until you're ready and mature enough to handle having sex is a good choice male or female for that matter.
I respect waiting to have sex if it's for a good reason. You know, religion or saving yourself or whatever. But my GF was 25 and she was still a virgin because she was waiting for prince charming. I'm cynical and told her to just find a nice guy and get it done. She did and it's a good thing cause she's 31 now and prince charming still hasn't shown up.
That's why I don't have intercourse. I'm not "saving" myself for anyone... I like being sexually adept, but the risk outweighs the benefit for me right now...
Apologies to you, and to anyone else who was offended by my comment. The original post did ask for my "reaction" and that was my truthful response. I didn't mean to sound like every guy in that situation was a latent psychopath.
For those of you who are "saving yourselves" for "the one", please let me suggest that in a relationship, sex is only the icing on the cake. No matter how sweet that icing is, it is NOT the cake. Understanding, caring, affection, acceptance, friendship, love and trust are all more important than what you do or have done with your genitals.
To expect that your first time will be a deep, romantic, magical, religious experience with "the one" is to set yourself up for disappointment. If it is the first time for both of you, your risk is even higher. Be ready to show patience and tenderness when things go wrong, and don't become angry if you feel clumsy or inept.
Sex is really not that big a deal. It's a nice, friendly way for two people to get to know each other.
Well I'm 21 and I'm a virgin. I'm not ashamed of it or anything, but I've been really shy with girls in particular, so that played a bit role in what I am right now. I certainly wouldn't refuse if a woman would ask me for it, since I'm absolutely not saving myself for someone in particular. Yes there's risks, but there's way to minimize them, so why not.
I don't look down on guys or women who are a virgin at a late age, everyone has their reason. And sincerely, I don't mind, one day maybe they'll go for it, and I don't think they'll regret a single bit their decision when they make it.

I'm not sure I follow. Std's are easily avoided and pregnancy is too. Use a condom and most women take BC. Std's can be avoided by one: asking the women and Two: using a helmet.
As this topic was posed as a question, I see things from a slighty askew different POV (one of which might be tainted, insane, etc,) but to further advance a conversation, someone has to put the right leg out when the left leg is in for the hokey pokey dance. If you choose to not have sex, thats a legit reason enough as its your choice. How can you not respect someones' choice or opinion? But, as a person who fucks a lot might be called a slut in some cultures, I have my own terms and opinions for those that are of the opposite spectrum. Bear with me, as I have a few various obnoxious points to make that are quite reactionary. I'm sorry if I offend anyone with my hence forward comments.
In my cultural sphere of interaction, I have rarely met a man that has obstained from sex into his late 20s or 30s by choice. AS I see it, its usually because they can't get laid and then all of a sudden (usually around 25) they start making excuses like 'no woman is good enough for me.' Even stranger is that everyone I meet who are virgins (and over 25 or so) are addicted/love porno and speak very negatively about women (I have heard much more demeaning talk about women being fat or ugly from guys who are virgins or have not had much sex as compared to those who are sexually promiscuous or have a varied sex life.)
Disease and religion I can definitely see as being viable reasons to wait, as I do have a close male friend who is 30 years old, a virgin, and states its because of christian/ religious reasons. And I really used to buy into his reasoning, but not anymore. I hear how he talks about women, I hear his ridiculous and unobtainable expectations and I just have to laugh. And I also know about his experiences with women. His sexual choices are out of fear of rejection; and without going too far into it, he has coped out and created an illegitimate reason to explain his virginity. About the only thing he does according to religion is to not have sex before marriage, other than that, he doesn't walk the christian line.
As far as a double standard or the cultural difference for women, well, I dated a virgin once; I would never do it again and I would never date a woman who has not had sex. In my culture, a womans' virginity is not a prize; I like women who are sexually experienced, know what they want, and have an opinion based on actual practice. Thats my culture; and as I respect anyone elses' culture as I learned so joyously in my college cultural anthropology class, I would hope my culture is also embraced as diverse and respected as such.
Furthermore, men who seek out virgins I believe largely do so out of fear of being compared to past partners. I would much rather be with a woman who has had multiple partners; that way, if she likes me, I would really believe it as she has something to compare it to. I don't want to live in a Jessica Simpson/Nick world.
If you are a virgin and are waiting for the right woman sexually, my biggest question is how would you know if she was right? What would you compare it to? The pam anderson poster in the garage? Taylor Rains performance in a sex vid? Your hand?
Virginity makes sense when your young; your mentally immature and not fully aware of who you are as a person. Now, if your 30 and are afraid of women, and are not comfortable with yourself, damn, thats a few issues right there that should be dealt with before you ever lay pipe.
Thus, are you avoiding sex out of fear or is this really a choice you are making? There is a vast difference between being a virgin out of choice and then being a virgin because you can't get laid. Harsh but true.
Again, I am not trying to create a flame war and I'm sorry if anyone gets mad from my flawed observations; I just live in 'bizarro world' I guess.
P-Knuckle, you bring up some interesting points and I agree with alot of your observations regarding this touchy subject. When I made a poll question here at the forum asking when was the first time one had sex, I was quite surprized at the lack of answers from the guys. At first I assumed that the question was perhaps a little too personal but now I'm inclined to believe there are quite a bit of male virgins here at ADT. Nothing wrong with that of course, but it is a little strange that they would be interested in porn but not in the actual sexual activity that inspires it.
I can't speak for other virgins as I'm sure everyone have their own reason for still being a virgin. But the reason I'm still a virgin is not because of religious background. It's mostly due to complicated circumstances that can be probably summed up as lack of opportunities.
First of all, I'm not borned in this country. And when I first immigrated here when I was a teen, I had a very hard time adjusting culturally. I'm also very shy and concentrated on my study instead. I was in school for most of my life (to around 30 years old), and since I'm not a smart person, it has taken all my concentration to get to the Stanford University PhD program. (In fact, I studied at Stanford PhD program for 5+ years before I had to admit I'm just not smart enough and had to quit. But that's a long story and I'll leave it for another day). After school, I had to re-adjust some of my priorities. People have tried to set me up on dates and I've used the online-dating to try to find people. But it's still difficult for me to get to know someone well enough to want to sleep with her. You mentioned that it's strange someone would be interested in porn but not the sexual actitvity. Well, I don't think it's that I'm not interested in the sex. I like to think I fantasize about sex as much as the average guy. (most likely more ) But I'm just not interested in doing it indiscriminately with any girl. I watch porn mostly as a fantasy element and partly to learn something so I would know how to please that special girl when the time comes.
One time, I let someone know I was still a virgin, her response was rather surprising to me. She said that I should just find a hooker and "get it over with." I'm not sure if she's speaking from her own fear of not being intimate with someone but I'm just not that desparate to loose my virginity to some hooker. I would like to experience sex with someone in this life. But if by some circumstances I don't meet any girl special enough, it's not a big deal. Life goes on.

I am with you one hundred percent on that. The culture that I was raised in does regard female virginity as desirable. I consciously rejected that idea when I was in my early twenties.
An experienced woman who knows what she likes and is not afraid to say so is a precious delight. Virginity in a woman is merely a correctable nuisance.
I do not regard myself as any kind of expert lover, but I have no fear of comparison. A willingness to listen to your partner and pay attention to her pleasure is worth more than a big pile of athletic expertise. Her previous partner may have done something better than me, but as long as I'm not scared to hear about it, there's always the chance that she might teach me the same skill.
What culture is that P_K ? I'd be interested to know what community has these values that I have only discovered through subversive literature .
I agree with you completely. Another misconception is that alot of people think that guys who are virgins only want girls who are virgin too. That's totally false and I can attest to that. Since I'm so inexperienced about sex, I actually don't mind if the girl know more about it and can guide our first encounter. Communication is more important than actual experience to learn what your partner like.

Perhaps, but consider this. The foods you like, the sports you like, your politics and your religion (or lack of) are all fundamentally affected by your sphere of experience. A sexually experienced woman, or man, is likely already quite set in their ways about their sexual likes and dislikes just as we all are about the other things I list above. For every experienced woman who knows how to satisfy you there is another out there whose experience has led to a whole list of things she has decided she doesn't like and is no longer open to trying.
I know that my sexual die is now firmly cast and for many women I would make an undesirable sexual partner; at 16 I would have been a lot more malleable and many girls who would now not match up with me so well maybe would have done all those years ago? Same the other way round; if as you say 'virginity is merely a correctable nuisance' given that you yourself are 'marking the paper' who better to give the tutelage in the first place?
SNP, you make a very good counter-argument for a virgin. Now I have to think about the whole issue some more.

You make some good points, SNP. I can imagine that such things are possible, though I have known a woman years older than me who still enjoyed trying new things.
I have been in the position of educating a virgin only once, and for me the destination was better than the journey, but that isn't necessarily true for everyone.
Much of my enjoyment comes from discovering what the woman likes, and giving her pleasure. It's much more difficult to do that for a virgin. She doesn't know what she likes, can't tell you, and is scared to try most things anyway.
When you do make her happy, she still doesn't know she has the best. She's always left with a little nagging worry that maybe she's missing something. That maybe one of those other, taller, better looking or slimmer guys may have more to offer.
That makes me sound really insecure, though that's not how I meant it. I suspect such things would be far more of a bother to a guy who put a premium on her virginity in the first place.
Apologies for straying so far from the original topic of male virginity.
Honestly it was just shyness anmd insecurity that kept me from de-virginizing until I was 22. The opportunities were abundant. On the other hand, it would have been highly likely that I might have gotten someone pregnant, since condoms weren't very popular in the '70s. I actually wish I had taken advantage when it was so free and easy, but also I think I was looking for something more emotional and sincere. Had I gotten over that speedbump at 18 or 19, I would have been fucking my brains out. As it is, my 30s were the far more sexual and more sexually adventurous, decade.
That's pretty much the same way I feel. I'm still a virgin at 20 (almost 21) because I'm pretty shy around women - partly due to being turned down on dates for many years.
I don't react. It's perfectly normal to me, the same way it's perfectly normal if he has had sex. There are perfectly good reasons for choosing not to do it until the time is right, an it's different for each individual. Like mookiemeister wrote, male virginity is sadly and definitely looked down on, and some people overreact when they meet a 25 year old virgin, as though he had two heads or three tits.
