Is it worth it ? Thinking of doing this instead of buying and waiting for them to come to me by mail . Can you put them on your own dvd after you've downloaded them ?

Worth it?
It depends. If the site offers unlimited unrestricted dvd-quality dowloads, with no DRM, then it is worth it (imo).
Things like DRM or low video quality or streaming-only content make it less appealing and less valuable and not worth it (imo).
Save to DVD?
It depends. If there is no DRM and no streaming, then yes, you can save to DVD. Be aware of filetype. Commonly used filetype is WMV. WMV files can be played on most computers but on relatively few standalone DVD players. If your DVD player is not WMV capable, then file must be converted to MPG or AVI(if Divx-able DVD player); your computer can do the conversion if you have the necessary software.
Some may point out that even DRM content and streaming content can be saved to DVD. This is technically true. But it involves additional effort/hassle/cost/software/expertise.

name ONE (1) just one producer who makes REAL STANDARD DVD quality production on over the wire releases. The only reasons cable and its newer iterations such as IPTV are succeeding against the DVD are
1) almost immediate delivery of content.
2) larger selection of content than most resellers have in their warehouse stock
Other than that I find most consumer prefer clarity and playback over any other issue most speak on.
And your well made responses does not get into playback issues as some codex on older DVD machines will NOT playback more recent versions of *.wmv files such 6MB encoding and a whole host of other reasons why most consumers want the studio producer to eliminate that issue for them and why many producers want to pass that cost of mastering, verifying and warehousing onto the consumer as a internet only production.

You are correct; I should have said "high quality".

Naw I agree with you.
There is no one who is spending the money on bandwidth for standard DVD quality yet.
-- let alone HiDef quality despite all the promo for high def downloads.
But for some they are not looking to keep replaying the clip or ripped film more than one time. So for them playback quality is not a real issue as all they want is just something that meets the immediate want will do for that person.

I think it can be worth it. I just started subscribing to one of the 21Sextury sites. The great advantage is you get to pick the scenes you want. I've downloaded a number of them, and burned them to DVDs. Then I can watch them at my leisure in the bedroom, living room, ... Which is good because I don't like watching porn on a computer that much. The quality is not bad really. It's not as good as the best DVDs yet, but it's decent. There's still a problem with motion artifacts due to compression; so the hard driving fast stuff gets blurred. You'll have to master a little bit of technology depending on the type of video files you download. For example, I get two kinds at this site: One labeled simply MPEG, the other MPEG-4. The first kind was not recognized by Quicktime (I'm on Mac), nor MPEG Streamclip, so I had to scrape around and find something that would do the job. Then everything worked fine. The MPEG-4's are a newer technology I guess and are readable by QT and everything else I have. I've burned a number of DVD coasters just messing around, but overall it works pretty well.
I had a subscription to xrentdvd (on a netflix kind of plan), but I find the downloading to be a welcome change. I've already cancelled my xrent sub for now. I'll probably cancel my sub to the present download site after a month or two, then move on to try a few others.
