If you're wondering what happened to most of the posts made during the day on 8/25 we lost them.

The database server crashed today and left ADT's databases in a corrupted state. I needed to restore from a backup. The most recent backup was early in the morning on 8/25 so we lost today's posts and reviews.

Nothing much. The forum *did* benefit by crashing in some respects: now we don't have to surf through the 30+ posts that fucker made and all the mods shut down. I swear it was like a full page of threads by this one dude who liked to pick fights. I think his named as "monsta" or something...

I'd say he proly could come back because the server crashed and ruined any saved changed (like banning him for example). but i dunno fo sho!

On the 21st of this month there were 643 posts made with 55 of them being new topics.

Thus far this month there have been almost 17k posts and 1455 new topics.

Last month there were 23,507 posts made in 1,826 new topics.

It was my fault - sorry 'bout that. Oddly enough, though, at the exact time I tried to log on for the first time in like 2 days, I first got the [ODBC] errors, then I got "HTTP/1.1 Application Restarting" messages, then lo -- there was but One Active Topic. This one.

What timing! I could hear Drew in my head muttering under his breath -- "jeez, give it a minute! It'll be up in ten more seconds! Stop banging on it already!"

But, but .. I was taking over my machine at work from home and using it to take over other machines on my LAN and ... I like to post while the progress bars go by! I didn't know what to DO!!

I think the problem with the server isn't as exciting as hackers or bodily fluids. The problem is me being cheap. The server is a quad processor Compaq Itanium based system. All of the documentation says that "you must use Compaq memory in this system only or the server may be unstable!" I've heard this from server manufacturers for the last 15 years and it's always been bullshit. I think in this case it might be true. I removed the non-Compaq memory today and the problems seem to have gone away. I'll know for sure in a week or two. In the mean time I have a backup server configured with live replication so we won't lose any more data.
