For once, here the comments to the article show more knowledge than the original post. What they say certainly applies in a broad way to the majority of 70s porn soundtracks, but for WFMU I'd expect them to actually know about the great theme music that was recorded (or 'borrowed') for many of the better xxx films of the 70s. The theme from Candy Stripers comes immediately to mind. Or the soundtrack from Misty Beethoven. Any other memorable soundtracks come to mind? Edited by - BlackSix on Dec 30 2011  [Link] |

Damiano apparently spent most of the budget on the soundtrack, and it shows. I also love Carter Stevens movies for the music (the films are cool too :). He uses a lot of Alan Tew, who I think is fucking awesome. I also really like the Sex World soundtrack, and Pamela Mann.  [Link] |

I both laugh and cringe at lines like "Directors were working with film in the 1970's -- occasionally 35 mm, but for the most part 16 mm reversal -- blotchy, grainy, and orangey, shot by guys for whom keeping in focus and avoiding giant patches of shadow were massive accomplishments. The dialoge was often dubbed in later, like a terrible Italian horror movie..." Try telling that to great D.P.s like Larry Revene, Jack Remy, Ken Gibb, Joao Fernandes, etc... What this idiot also clearly doesn't know is that most XXX features were scored with library music or stolen pop tracks. Very few had fully original scores. These same library tracks scored countless non-XXX films and TV shows as well. The X rated films that did have original scores tended to sound nothing like the library tracks used for so many others. Take Jacques Urbont's excellent pop/jazz/psychedelic compositions for Danny Steinman's HIGH RISE or Jack Justis' throbbing acid rock tracks for Armand Weston's DEFIANCE OF GOOD, etc. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I'm sooo sick of idiots like this spouting out their pretentious opinions as [untrue] facts... It includes SENSATIONS, BODY LOVE, FRENCH BLUE as well as a bunch of loops. It blows the bootleg from ABA out of the water. All of the films are uncut as well. The only issue is that it's PAL R2.
