Still, Performers who work in "feature sexvids" may have some acting ability, because they can "portray a character"...which means they do MORE than just recite dialogue! But this is very, very rare--and with all due respect, I don't believe the AVN Awards truly recognize "acting" in their acting categories.

The dominance of "gonzo" in today's porn market just re-inforces this trend away from acting ability.

As for "star" quality: in my opinion, there are no "Stars" in the biz today. The young, post-Jenna Stars have retired/cut-back on performing because of the extreme, hardcore sex acts that is demanded of them by the companies, or because they want to have real-life relationships--which working in porn restricts. And none of the, yearly,"new" girls have been able to break-out and get beyond the "promising newcomer" status of, for example, Alektra Blue, Hillary Scott, Lacie Heart, or Monique Alexander.

Bottom line: Because there is very little "talent" needed in porn (including behind the camera), it is very easy to "work" in the industry--and this is why there is so much competition, so much product, and so poor quality. And only "Performers" not Actresses or Stars.

Take a look at the Teagan's and such, they've put out 60 titles in 3 years of performing. Excellent, she's a cutie, too! But while some consider her a star, she's not even comparable to a Hillary Scott, Tory Lane, or a Kelly Wells when it comes to the adult industry, IMHO. The mere fact that people hold McKenzie Lee as a 'star' holds about as much credibility as her winning the AVN Best New Starlet award this January. She's been contract since Day 1 (not quite, but close enough), and she's done how many scenes? AdultDVDEmpire shows her with 30 titles (give or take 10 perhaps).

Porn is about fucking - not about hotness & acting. Sure, it can contain those virtues, but they aren't prerequisite. Just because some barbie doll who is willing to suck cock on camera comes along, doesn't in the least mean she's a 'star'. She's just that, another hot piece of ass willing to fuck on film. You work to become a star, you aren't just automatically handed such a title. So while the title of "pornstar" (-v- adult actress, porn performer, etc.) is being thrown around, think about those girls who've made their impact on the business, even if only in number of titles produced. You can't say too much about a McKenzie Lee other than she's another 'barbie doll'. On the other hand, I admire the words of one Ginger Lee for not claiming status of "pornstar", perhaps because she isn't putting her body thru some of the ungodly shit we witness in the industry, or for that matter, doesn't have a heavy number of films either.

Otherwise, please define the word "star" for us. Just because they haven't met your expectations of the next Jenna Jameson doesn't make them less of a star, and just another 'performer'. Seriously, I want to here this...
