Being a porn star requires a lot more. You have be more than pretty/handsome and a good fuck to be a star. For women, you also have to have the gift of gab. You have to be able to make the media rounds, come off well in interviews, etc. It also helps if you have proper modelling skills. You're more likely to get the box cover if the person taking the production stills can get a good shot of you. Then, you also have to be your own social marketer. It helps to be on and monitoring your accounts throughout the day, interacting with fans, finding that balance between pitching your product and just having fun. And then there's creating content for your own website that resonates with your fans. Some of the more successful women are also on the road a lot, making appearances as feature dancers and other such events. For contract performers, this usually mandatory. Finally, there's all the stuff one has to do to stay looking good. Hours and hours at the gym/yoga/running/whatever, taking care one one's skin, waxing, etc etc. It's a full time job with a lot of moving parts. That's why longevity is rare. For guys, endurance is a huge part. They work more than the women (being a stud pays less) so they have to be in top shape. They have to, day in, day out (sometimes twice a day) shag for hours on end, pop on command, and look good doing it. Like with the girls, many are total gym rats by necessity. In most jobs, being good at social interactions is crucial, and porn is no exception. If people like you, they'll hire you. If people can't stand being around you, they won't. If the other talent likes fucking you, you're a lot more likely to get requested and thus to work. If you show up on time, do good scenes, and don't cause drama, directors are much more likely to call. A porn star has to be able to manage her fanbase too - the more popular she is, the more likely she is to get hired, and for better projects. Actually being good at the job helps, though there sort of an inverse relationship between how traditionally pretty someone is and the extent to which she has to be a genuinely good performer in order to work. (I'm not saying pretty girls are bad performers, but rather that the less you fit a standard model, the more crucial it is to be a good performer. Someone like Bonnie Rotten - or myself for that matter - would never have been able to sustain a career being a soft, low energy fuck). Last but not least, you have to really, truly, like this shit.
