Ok, we all know that sometimes cute talent ends up being one and done. More now than ever, simply because so many cute girls are entering into porn these days. And we all know that the reasons for being one and done can be varied, as with any job. Examples are not enjoying a new job they thought they'd try, bad experiences, not enough money, family/friends concerns, etc. Unfortunately, as a pornfan, nowadays it's hard to keep up with all the great talent. I know there has been some great talent that I've missed just this year alone but there's nothing that can be done about it really. And there's nothing wrong with talent doing that-like any other job, nobody has to work at something they don't enjoy, so talent leaving if they don't like it, imho, is a good thing as we get more authentic sex-loving talent. I guess my point is that it's sad to know that I might be missing some great talent I may like more than any other girl, simply because she passed under the radar. Anyone else share these laments? Know how to cope, lol? Or just chalk it up to the way porn in 2011 has to be? I'll also add, that maybe an unfortunate aspect to this is that many top notch girls enter but think they'll get more work than they end up getting, for whatever reasons. Maybe these girls if they'd stick around a bit would forge a career, as not every career is supposed to happen overnight. But if someone isn't advising these girls of this, it may get lost on them, and that's unfortunate for us and them. I don't know what type of gameplan or expectations the agents set for the talent. One reason for 'one and done' is they're in it for the experience. They've wondered about doing porn and they decide to try it. Once they're experiences, good or bad, they've satisfied that curiosity, they have their tape to show the grandkids, and they're off to try something else. I've seen this over and over again.
The #1 reason I've personally experienced with the one and only time girls is someone finds out and makes their life miserable. With how fast news travels these days due to social media, as soon as that girl is recognized... forget it, it's over. I also had the typical excuses, like needed quick money. A couple scenarios, I think someone finds out about it and makes their life hell. I don't see any issue with the actual sex with strangers, the problem is putting it on film and it is out there for decades, and at some point may come back to harm them. Let's say a girl has worked in the field for several years, has a resume and eventually leaves the industry. Imagine going through the rest of your life trying to conceal your past. I think some girls realize this and get out.
I was thinking almost the same but in another way there are some very promising actresses leaving porn after only a year or something like that , Proxy Paige, Ashton Pierce, Sammy Grand ,Tera Dice, Tatiana Kush , Tiffany Star to name some what's wrong with all this? I totally get that Rod. What seems weird to me, is that IF they like the experience, why wouldn't they want to continue? To get paid for something you like to do...isn't that a dream, lol? Of course there's lots of reasons, but apart from those, I find it weird that they would stop.
Some just aren't into it for the money. They take the money and are happy to have it, but in some cases the money is kind of a trophy. They'd do it for free just to have the experience and the DVD to keep, but surprisingly, they make good money at their day job and this is just extra play money. Not for all certainly, but for some. I had one couple that wanted to do a shoot so they'd have extra cash for a trip to Vegas. They were going to Vegas anyway, and the shoot was going to just add a little extra.
^ Wow, thanks for the info. I knew the experience factor was big but I had no idea that entailed the offhanded attitude of just doing it for extra play money. That to me, more than anything, tells me two important things: One, that not all talent strives to make a career out of being talent, and two, that the moral attitudes out there have changed so much that it creates this atmosphere where this is no shame factor. It seems to me that the one and done would be more likely to quit over regret and remorse. The people who find out about it will find out LATER and not immediate enough to stop a second scene if the girl was willing to shoot it. Irish
I don't think you can be great talent with one scene under your belt. You can show all the potential in the world, but greatness is proven over the long haul.
^ Talent actually does not depend on the number of scenes you can ameliorate with experience but if you don't have talent you'll never become a big star though there are star with talent they have never had the chance to express in its full extent. Also there are actresses whose talent was perfectly clear since their very first shoot , Belladonna for example , Bobbi Starr for Example , Keri Sable for example although she actually left very soon.April Flowers, Miko Lee , Destiny Big (first Marie Luv's stage name) Judy Star maybe one of the most talented stars ever , when she revealed she was actually a lesbian in her real life and that she never even kissed a man in real life i stayed in awe for minutes how could someone almost disgusted be able to shoot such amazingly well done scenes? Yeah, yeah - James Dean. I didn't suggest that talent depends on the amount of work you do. What I said was that greatness is shown by consistently coming up to the highest standard. Doing one great scene signals that you have potential. You still have to live up to it. Think Mel Gibson.

Not knowing (or having known) any girls personally, I would guess this is a major reason for it as well. Most people have a huge weakness for peer pressure and Americans are deliberately conditioned for it from day one. I would think a girl who goes into porn thinking (hoping) no one will ever know will give it up the instant anyone she knows finds out and says something. The ones who realize they won't be able to keep it a secret are probably the ones who last longer but I think the peer pressure eventually wears most of them down to a nub as well.
Slightly off topic, but what fascinates me even more are girls who have only ever performed a couple of scenes a year but have been in the business for ages. I can't imagine porn pays so well that you could make a living on a few scenes a year. I'm sure some performers may supplement their income with dancing or escort work but it still doesn't explain why they would just do a handful of scenes per year.
This is probably true most of the time unfortunately. One would hope that in these days, a girl should know what getting into porn is going to entail for her image, reputation, etc. The idealistic ones, like a Sasha Grey, set out to change peoples' minds and not look down on it. It'd be nice if more talent lived like that, but it's really, really hard, as you point out, and culture's mindset changes slowly. I will say I don't think it's their peers finding out which causes talent to stop performing. I think most talent has friends who are ok with it. The old saying goes, one usually makes friends with people like themselves. Rather, I think it could be parents and/or other jobs finding out (or the talent realizing they could find out), which makes them stop. This has been stated in this thread already though.
I had thought about this too, and to me, it must be that money isn't the primary factor for them performing. Another thread someone who produces said that much of the talent he comes across isn't in it for the money primarily, but for the experience. So using that logic, it would explain the talent you're speaking of. Maybe that itch of experience just strikes a chord a few more times. Other than that, I'm with you, I don't have an explanation.
You might be surprised. Sometimes it can be shocking to find out how prudish the average person really is when it comes right down to it. Those of us who are cool with porn and consume it on a daily basis kind of forget there is a whole other culture out there that deplores it. Even sometimes you will see porn fans treating performers very poorly because they do porn. I was surprised to see that in my early days here. That's a head scratcher.Actually, I was including parents, employers and so forth as peers as it's close enough. It's close enough to the same emotional/psychological effect. People they know find out, don't like it and start doing/saying things they know will make them feel like outcasts and make them want to get back on everyone's good side. Yeah, I don't see why fans do that, but I've witnessed it too. I think a big part is the psychology of it, in that they are porn fans but don't know how to deal with certain aspects to it. Basically, those people are not owning up to how they really feel about something.Yeah, I figured you had parents, etc. in your answer too. This certainly explains the reasoning of some talent, and it's too bad. It's changing though as more people are accepting of it now compared to before. I think it's a generational thing, much like other things like racism, homophobia, etc. The younger generation doesn't have as much a problem with these things, and porn is right along those lines. Which is good. I guess that's why it's so encouraging that some talent has the strength to enter into the industry and not care what others think, because they are doing it for themselves. That's a very hard decision still to this day, and to me, they are to be commended for it, as it crashes boundaries and stereotypes.
