I was reading an old transcript of Cavuto interviewing the co-founder of Vivid Steve Hirsch and pornstar Sunrise Adams. I noticed that she made a comment on not falling into the "bad parts" of the adult industry and was wondering what this is in reference to. I've heard people say this before and often wonder what they mean by it.
.........................................
CAVUTO: Would you be willing then, Sunrise, for that girl -- let’s say it’s a daughter -- or a son -- to go into your industry, to do what you do?
ADAMS: Why not? I’m not ashamed of what I do. The things I do is very clean. It’s very safe. The company I’m with is the highest company. If they decide that they want to do that in their life or as a career, I will do everything I can to help them and to teach them and to not let them fall into the bad parts of the adult industry.

Leeroy, my fellow gentleman;
Maybe this area includes all the cheap, bad-looking porn you can easily find on the net...
the kind which makes up a lot of what is "Gonzo"..
the kind where average-looking chicks are taken off the street and fucked by some hairy, pot-bellied & bald old man...
the kind that caters for the extremists (scat, bestiality, etc)
Personally, although I'm just a fan, I can see that the likes of Vivid and other big name fancy studios who make features and the odd made-up-to-look-like-gonzo scene, are decent companies who treat talent well, try to mainstream the business, ensure regular STD testing etc.
On the other hand, you have the "bad area" companies, the bottom-of-the-barrell companies who don't give a shit about anything really, other than having a fuck and making a few dollars from it.

Aren't most men hairy? I can get why certain men might be repulsive to many women but I don't get why a man suddenly isn't supposed to be hairy.

Perhaps the overall context of that quote should be considered; however, I wonder if the "bad parts" she's referring to is the drug scene, a la Savannah. If you've got money and time on your hands (between shoots), I'm sure thee's people offering you...anything.
Isn't that the first step to Flakedom?

Thank you, RP, for the nit-picking.
Although I never stated that men aren't "supposed to be hairy", I will point out that there is a difference between when male talent are camera-friendly and neutral, and when they are the opposite of that.
Porn is supposed to be erotic; there's nothing erotic about a pale & hairy man-arse & pot-belly with sweat beading down.

The collective hangover we all had this morning after yesterday's ETO Awards Show and it's after-after-after-after parties. Very bad! Attack of the living dead on the show floor.

generally speaking, the testing of girls' physical limits that has become pervasive in waaaaaaaaaaaay too much of adult film. specifically, quagging, jackhammer-fucking (either waaaaaaay too fast or waaaaaaaaay too hard), girls rimming guys, etc.

Bad parts of porn:
Feeble stories and scenarios.
Compilation upon compilation featuring old grainy scenes.
Meagre pop shots on a girls belly/tits (which she still looks repulsed by).
Boring movies that look more like sex education films.
Porn that is more interested in nice scenery then capturing good sex.
Vivid (see above)

I was doing that (happily) back in 1996. Sure, it's more common now, but stuff was just as crazy in 70s porn, it just had a different feel.
BTW - this thread seems to be about what are the 'bad parts' of the industry that porn girls should avoid. A lot of the posts here seem to be talking about the kind of porn you don't like to watch.
