I'm curious about the economics of porn. Is there a point system like the record industry? Are there royalties in porn? If so, who usually gets them? How are movies sold to hotels? Is there a one-time sale or does the studio get a percentage of the rentals or pay-per-views?

Economics - make a profit or die.

I think companies sell material to cable/sattelite distributors who in turn get contracts from hotel chains.

What is the point system of the record industry? Is it like TV ratings?

The economics in this industry are terrible. I know I will get flamed, but I will break down to you the industry.

1. Hotel and home rentals are the big money. However, production company only get like 10%, all the money is in the distribution. Production companies are at the mercy of these cable providers because their is so much product ans so little chice for hotels and consumers when it comes to telecom.

2. Industry is extremely fragmented, which is bad economics.

3. Labour market is saturated.

I could go on if you have any questions just ask.

Terrible? Terrible in what respect? Explain.
How do you know "hotels and home rentals" are the "big" money? What led you to believe this? Where did you get that 10% number from? What makes you say "production companies are at the mercy of cable providers" -- especially since "home rentals" are the "big money". How do you know the porn buyer market is so small compared to the rental market these days?
Fragmented how? And assuming it is fragmented, why exactly is that bad? And what do you mean by "bad"? I don't see the causation here or even understand what you are talking about.
Huh? First, where did you get this idea? Second, how would one measure that? In other words, how do we know what the demand for adult entertainment is so that we can gauge the proper amount of labor in this market? Third, I don't understand the consequence of being "saturated" and you didn't explain. Shouldn't that cause labor prices to go down and hence production costs so that porn could be offered at a low price point to consumers? Wouldn't this labor market (or any labor market for that matter) self adjust when it becomes over-saturated?

It seems natural that if the price of labor falls too low, workers will see job opportunities elsewhere. Yet, I don't see this happening in porn. I see more people attracted to the industry all the time. More girls, more production companies, etc.

If you are going to assert this sort of thing as if you are an economics expert, perhaps you should consider providing more supporting facts.

It has nothing to do with being an expert he's just applying basic economic principles to the porn economy.

Oh? I saw him tossing out a few ambiguous "hot words" willy nilly without regard to logic and no supporting facts whatsoever.

Just like your typical economist then.
