Yesterday I saw someone somewhere else commented, for the question of "who are some of the best performers of all time?" that Teanna Trump should definitely be in the conversation.
Now I haven't watched her yet, but didn't she start just some years ago? not saying performers can't leave a lasting impression behind after a relatively short period of work; but for such grand titles shouldn't "persistence" for example be a factor? holding out longer when waves of the industry kept changing?... or so I murmured to myself before starting this thread.
SO; what factors do YOU consider for handing out this title? and name some of the greatest pornstars of all time/a particular decade/working right now, whichever you like... to clarify your point.
This is a great question and it's also a very challenging one . This is a topic regularly discussed in lots of forums and social media platforms. I remember recently myself and a good few other members on a very well known posting site , were commenting about porn fans posting and saying " Mia Khalifa is the Goat" I never want to be rude or disrespectful to a lady but that kind of statement is used way too often by ill educated porn fans. Mia Khalifa only shot a handful of porn scenes and they were extremely tame and vanilla and she was a very average performer. She was certainly reasonably attractive and sexy but how can any logical smart porn fan say that she is the goat lol.
For me I usually look at the following criteria - Length of time in the porn industry Variety of scenes - hardcore and have they performed all the hardcore nasty acts during their careers Attractive and Hotness level Overall Sexual appetite and Enthusiasm Popularity and Acclaim/ Awards Sexual Skills and Talents
Using a rough criteria like above - Mia Khalifa does not rate high on any of them.
If you look at Hugely Famous Popular Pornstar such as Angela White - she has spent well over a decade in Porn She has done every type of scene and has shot all the hardcore nasty scenes with Gangbangs and Blowbangs and loads of DPs and ATMs She is super sexy and attractive She is always full on enthusiastic and horny She has won countless awards and is a massively successful producer and business woman. Angela White is also one of the very small amount of pornstars who is amazing at performing everything. She is a great deepthroat queen She is a great Cum Swallowing Queen She is one of the greatest nastiest Rimming Queens of all time.
So just being logical and using common sense - how can Mia Khalifa even remotely compare to Angela White. Other pornstars that scored the same as Angela White would be - Bobbi Starr Adriana Checkik Sarah Vandella Annette Schwartz

if anyhing I've gathered how subjective the whole conversation is, or can turn into rapidly. Like, if we're talking cinema I think we have more objective(??) points of reference; Chaplin, Hitchcock, Kubrick, Nolan... and we have clearer comparisons and ideas for rankings *regardless* of how each of us personaliy feel, at least to a degree compared to Porn.
Your enthusiaism makes me wanna check White's videos; I haven't so far only because her looks and body types doesn't do it for me. But the claim of her status certainly isn't up to me.
MAYBE Khalifa comes up in the conversations so much because her fans and viewers are the youngest and most online...they're certainly enough for her fans to keep her very up on prominent porn sites for so long, same for Abella Danger and Lana Rhodes some years ago. It boils down to a few distinct categories for me:
1: Longevity - in an industry where the average shelf life of an adult perfomer is 6 to 18 months, if you can make it to seven years or a decade or even 18 to 25+ years; clearly the person is doing something right.
2: Versatility - can you go from gonzo to features or from gangbangs to a Kink.com scene with equal grace and knock it out of the ballpark? Can you connect with your scene partners in most of your scenes so there's never any question that you're enjoying yourself? Can you avoid burnout and handle the fans at those conventions without having an incident or a meltdown?
3: Insider praise - there's nothing that screams greatness quite like a pornstar that EVERYONE wants to work with and has nothing but praise for from the directors to the talent to the camera operators, makeup artists etc. Angela White & Cherie DeVille are two fantastic examples of this, I would add Julia Ann to the list.
4: Relevancy - One of the more profound challenges is to remain relevant in an industry where you can be a nervous newbie on Monday, the next big thing on Wednesday & Thursday but be ancient history by the time Saturday rolls around. The greats have to find a way to stay in high demand, to be visible and sought after because I've seen plenty of 'veterans' who have a few hundred scenes under their belts yet not getting booked.
5: Overall appearance - There has been significant blowback for some performers who change their looks so radically that it ends up turning off the fanbase or leads to a regular stream of hostile commentary on the additions. That's not even beginning to address the ones who start out as teens and grow up in front of the camera with their bodies naturally maturing. That can also put the brakes on a career so the trick there is to retain some familiar features or physical trait that becomes a signature to keep fans invested.
I don't agree with the both categories thing personally but when it comes to male talent?
The criteria is simpler: can you stay hard? can you work with everyone from veterans to newbies and get them into the right positions for the appropriate angles without making it look forced?? Can you make anal pleasurable for even the most nervous girl to want to try??? Can you coordinate with fellow male talent in gangbangs and DPs so it all flows seamlessly???? I suppose the ultimate question about being the goat for both male and female performers is, can you avoid having all your scenes appear the same?

This going to sound incredibly lame but I'm on the high functioning end of the autism spectrum and I have ADHD which means I overthink to an extent that gives neurotypical people vertigo. I know the argument is that watching porn to learn about sex is like watching the Fast and Furious saga to learn how to drive but that's how I ended up learning about not only my sexuality but how to perform well in the bedroom so yes I did conduct research. Especially on my favorite performers like Kenna James, the retired Karla Kush, Cadence Lux, Leana Lovings - the research never stops because that's how I learned a ton about human behavior. How to read people between the lines. For me, the distinction between adult performer and pornstar is that one is a career that feels like a calling that they enjoy tremendously. You'll rarely hear a pornstar talk down about the industry or their time in it, they own it with pride. Adult performers are just wanting a job, a chance to explore their fantasies and then exit stage left. They often distance themselves entirely from the industry and trash it or downplay it and act like it was a mistake. There's no shortage of adult performers, there is an alarming drought of pornstars and a select few who legitimately set out to earn the title and embrace it. Great examples of this are: Sinn Sage, Casey Calvert, Cherie DeVille, Adriana Chechik, Jane Wilde, Alison Rey, Syren De Mer, Alexis Fawx, Kenna James, Cadence Lux to name a few.
I would also add as controversial as this opinion is - when it comes to the GOAT of male peformers; Mick Blue is in a class by himself. There's not a single female performer that has EVER had a bad first time anal experience with him and the sheer volume of scenes he has done is absolutely staggering with nobody from Rocco to Johnny to Manuel to James Deen coming anywhere near it.

I think, to be very honest, it's very difficult to say who the greatest adult performer among female performers is because there is so much competition in the industry. How can someone forget about Riley Reid? She was brilliant and a GOAT-level performer when it came to every scene. Chanel Preston as well along with Anissa Kate etc But among male performers, it's easier to make a top 5 or top 10 list because there's less competition. You could easily include Johnny Sins, Mick Blue, Seth Gamble, Rocco Reed, Marcus London, James Deen, and Manuel Ferrara

Look at the volume of scenes Mick Blue has compared to EVERY other male performer out there. I think the current estimate in a Holly Randall Unfiltered clip is over 7000 women, how many of those performers you listed on the male side ever get picked for first anal and have no complaints? Show me where someone has complained about Mick Blue and I will give you all the credit in the world. Manuel, James, Markus have all had complaints from female talent at one point or another. I've never heard a whisper about Mick Blue getting flack after a scene.

^ Thanks Paul. I used to have a nerdy spreadsheet where each of the women in my collection were given a score. Automatic elimination if they hadn't appeared in an anal, interracial or lesbian scene. Bonus points for dp, gangbangs, swallowing and going airtight. My top 20 list is partly based on that but more of a desert-island-disc approach. If I had to delete my collection, whose scenes would I keep? Enthusiasm, chemistry with co-stars, no inhibitions, immaculate presentation and consistency are all factors for me. Women who actually look and perform like like they WANT to be pornstars. I wish there were some black performers in the list, but many of my favorites didn't do anal or didn't do enough scenes.

If you're getting your numbers from IAFD, you are probably not getting an accurate count. IAFD doesn't list scenes, they list releases so the number is likely inflated.
Yup, I mentioned that in my post. As far as I know, IAFD is the only comprehensive database. Even if I quartered the figure, it's still staggering numbers. Also if it's inflated for one performer, it's inflated for all of them so their rankings would be more or less the same, even if the numbers are not accurate.
This is the kind of thread I would love to participate in but I doubt most of the women I can name are performers that most participants have watched and probably can't watch it because it's lost to time. Not to mention that the kind of stuff that was made in the 70's and 80's would not appeal to more modern porn fans. Most of the women named are a fine selection for this list.
^ go for it. It will be great to hear some names from earlier eras. And lots of those early 1970s scenes were shot on film so the quality holds up much better than the early video scenes.
