Back in the day, German porn used to be pretty good. I have a whack of Moli's Magma titles, and Harry S Morgan's Videorama titles from the early nineties. They were filthy & twisted, and the girls were hot. Same goes for some old Dolly Buster titles that I have. German porn was at the top of the heap, when compared to the shit American companies were putting out at the time. Any German porn you see today seems to be total garbage. The girls are ugly, flabby and hairy, and most of their mini-dicked guys have a potbelly. Their production values are substandard and the action is lame. Is there any decent German porn out there anymore that is comparable to American porn?
Well, I personally enjoy a lot of the movies Kelly Trump were in.I think she was a MMV contract girl for a time.MMV is the german company with a dog in the logo. These movies were made during the late 90`s and early 00`s, I believe. Some quality work, and good looking models.Magma is still active producing movies, but I havent been able to find any recent magma releases in my country lately. Then there are these J.Thompson films,(ggg)which are entirely based on cum( facials) and pee fetish.Read the other thread. With Harry Morgan I dont know if he`s still active or have a company.
I posted this in the current GGG thread, and I more or less stick to it. There may be exceptions, and I can only judge by the movies my local video stores carry, but they all look incredibly cheap and most of the girls look very cheap, nothing like Kelly Trump, Gina Wild, Lydia Pirelli and other fine German porn ladies from the past.
Even when the girls on the front cover look good, the back cover often reveals substandard production values. I can't tell you what has happened, but maybe everyone has its ups and downs and German porn will recover some day. Until then, I'll stick to US porn.

I can't speak to other German comapnies, but relating to the Are All GGG Videos Garbage? thread, I too stand by my response(s): todays John Thompson/GGG are excellent product lines - especially if you like 'em young, pretty and extreme hardcore nasty.

Recent Magma titles are OK so long as they have Tyra Missoux and Anje Juliette Laval in them. They also appear to be hiring more Czech and hungarian girls of late - and we know how hot they are!
Hi everybody, this topic is very interesting. I worked a lot in germany. Basically, there is a good potential of gorgeous girls. The problem is that in Germany, producers and distributors are making porno as if they were making cars. It is incredible that one of the best actor in the world, Steve Holmes ( who is german ) is obliged to find contracts in the USA. I worked many years with MMV and it was a very difficult experience. Of course, all the germans are not like that. I think that the products of GGG are very good, but it is not enough, and today, I have to say thank you to the american producers who trust europeen directors.
It seems like an interesting topic. As far as I remember VTO was the most popular producer for the German titles. And the owner Teresa Orlowsky was considered to be the best German pornstar(However she was Polish). At the end of 80's and the begginig of 90's we were watching a lot of titles from her.But after it was cut sharply. So I am wondering what happened to Teresa and VTO?
I think Germany is actually the most active european country in porn, but they're too specialized.
GGG productions are meaning for sperm lovers buyers
There are some Inflagranti productions based on stars you will not find anymore or better i've never seen 'em elsewhere Inflagranti is also based on outside productions such as star fucking on street during marchs or something . Inflagranti is also producing some BDSM , fisting and Fucking machines videos. They also import Dreamwork productions from the USA.
Most part of BDSM in Europe is produced in Germany especially the most hard
I find a new series called "Ich bin Jung" which is one session only casting .
If you mean straight porn there's Beate Uhse productions
Jean-Yves, thanks for your personal comment. A question concerning your answer: the comparision between porno making and car making plus the sentence before: are you especially refering to the way they do the casting- they just shoot with the girls available on the market just like the way a car company would buy their auto parts...
Have you had discussions on this topic with German producers? If so, why do they prefer to work the way they currently do?

Hmm, well, VTO went downhill, that´s what happened to VTO. Teresa was married with the producer when VTO was a big name in the game. Sascha Alexander was his "stagename".
They got divorced, Sascha Alexander married Sarah Luise Young, made her a big star and there was a company named SAP (Sascha Alexander Pictures) then. VTO still was around, but far away from being a big name anymore. VTO at that time tried to re-establish itself with less new product, but failed anyway. VTO and SAP have 2 things in common: Both used to be top-notch, but both went downhills for several reasons (like wanting too much success with way too limited engagement - both financial and personal -, etc.).
Much of German porn is still quite decent. A lot of it is shot across the boarder, in Hungary, for example. Some actors, for example, Zenza Raggi, are, as it were, bi-lingual.
I, for one, am happy that German porn went in the direction of gonzo (for example, in the series "Abgewichst!") and that horribly unattractive actresses like Dolly Buster, Sarah Young, and Teresa Orlowski have been relegated to the sidelines.
I paricularly enjoyed some series like 'Teeny Excess' (Exzesse) and 'Junge Debutantes'. They had some really hot young girls that you may not see elsewhere. Much better than GGG girls.
It's a shame that it is not easy to buy many of the back issues. I have to rely on scraps from Erodvd.
What about 'Mascotte film ag' ? I think its a german company, at least some of their titles are german. I havent seen any of their movies yet but the girls on the boxcovers looked very nice. I think one of the movies was directed by Zenza Raggi (Fashion Cafe or something). Anyone know more about the movies this company made?
Thanks for your reply. Yes, pure rules of efficiency doesn't usually apply that well to filmmaking. It's not the right place to discuss this (publicly) but MMV strategies doesn't seem to be the best anyway. I know hardly any German porn fan that has a positive opinion about them. But my impression is that other companies like Magma aren't that much focused on cost efficient productions. But you may have a better look "behind the scenes"...
Let me come back shortly to what I was assuming. You said: "It it a pitty, because girls are gorgeous and ready to do crazy things." But it seems to me that German production companies aren't generally that much interested in casting new girls. Is it too time consuming (and thus) too expensive?

Hmmmmm, two interesting thoughts. Also, I strongly disagree about Magma not being focused on cost efficient productions. From my point of view, the last real "expensive" experiment Magma did was their "PornArt" film (which was filmed late December 2003). Other than that I don´t remember any recent Magma title that looks like a high-cost production (and from what I heard, even the PornArt flick was shot in just one day).
Casting new girls is another point. I personally wonder that some people really believe there are dozens of beautiful maidens out there in Germany, just waiting to get casted for a porn movie. Hmmmm, if that would be the case, wouldn´t there be more new faces in German porn?
But maybe this goes along with another thing I have observed (hope I am allowed to "steal" that word from you, secluded Observer), namely the fact that only very few companies seem to have the guts to let (former) actors do some directing. I personally remember a Magma flick that was published in summer 2003 and this flick was directed by Freddie Dalton and Reinhard (the so-called other "half" of Zenza Raggi). Don´t remember the title right now, but I do remember that from watching this forementioned flick I thought: Now, that was a nice and impressively good porn. Why the hell they don´t let these guys do more filming (plus more casting, which IMO goes hand in hand with filming on regular basis).

Joey, regarding your question about `PornArt´ from Magma: First of all I still think I better should write a review about that film than just a few sentences. But since I am lazy and out of time, a few sentences will have to do for now: `PornArt´ IMHO was a very ambitious project that ended up in a good, but unfortunately not very good, movie. Far as I see it, there is a multiplicity of reasons for this, like the typical german way of producing a porn movie (make a script, think of how to get things running, hire some actors who happen to be available at your time schedule, hope that everything works out the way you planned it, have some vague idea about how things could run in case things may not turn out the way you planned, and so on ...) under a time issue that is. The idea behind `PornArt´ was to create a porn in which the natural elements (like wind, water, whatever) are part of the action and to create the sex-scenes as a stylish event. `PornArt´ as artful porn, so to say. So far for the theory. The film (or the finished product, as industry people would rather say) unfortunately often lacks the real high quality in the end. Like I said, it is good, but from the idea behind that movie, it should have been miraculous. Which it is not. From what I know about porn (and making porn) I would draw the conclusion that most of this is due to the time issue. Film was filmed late December 2004 and announced for an early May 2004 release, it was advertised for this release and - you know us Germans - it actually was released early May 2004. Filmed in just one or two days. IMHO it would have been better to delay the release for a couple of weeks and finish this film up the way it was intended to be. See, for example the first scene (Mercedes), water the element - rain the issue. For this particular scene they even wrote a background melody (yes a soundtrack) which - of course - is a very interesting thing. Because it is hardly ever done in porn. Given, from a musicians point of view it is rather a very simple tune and melody, but that doesn´t matter, because it is still porn, not some million budget Hollywood stuff. The idea and the realisation of that idea is what matters. At least to me. Problem is: This first scene is the only scene that has a special soundtrack melody that descripes the scene and fits to that scene. From my point of view it is a great idea to have a unique soundtrack for an artful porn movie. But it has to be for the whole film, not for just one scene. I bet they had planned similar soundtracks for the other scenes too and had to cancel this idea at the due to time (and/or money) issues. Things like that make the film incomplete, if you ask me.
Hmmmm, longer than I had expected. And, Joey, of course I do love that film. It has Mercedes in it, so it has to be a good one, right?
Recently I watched a German movie with Simony Diamond and Claudia Ferrari. Even this cast couldn't save the movie. Exactly because you could feel the attitude you decribed.
If I had to give the big german producers an advice. Go to Mercedes, VW and BMW and buy a few crash test dummies. Should be cheaper in the long run.
The smaller German companies seem to get it right more often.
But maybe this is what the audience prefers. In usenet there is a german speaking newsgroup about sex. While in other german speaking newsgroups most posters have German citizenship, in the sex newsgroup there are only 50+% German citizens.
Personally I never liked German porn in the first place simply becaue they can't find the hottest girls and the ones that are hard go to the US to mainly work there like Katja Kassin and Kelly Trump for example.
The movies from GGG/666/JT are good depending on the girl they us, I mean you can't go wrong with Betty but the other girls they have used are not porn-worthy in my opinion.
I wrote "aren't that much focused" but looking back may be I didn't write this thoroughly enough. I wrote it in the light of what Jean-Yves wrote about MMV: that cost efficiency had a negative effect on the quality of the movie. I wanted to express that I have the impression that Magma's perfomers are not that much under pressure and the results seem better or I should rather say: more natural
I talked to Nils Molitor (the director) about this movie. Especially I wanted to know if he's trying to challenge Andrew Blake in some kind with it... He was very modest and said it was an experiment. He asked to send a review when I had watched the movie. I did it but he never replied to my thoughts.
I certainly believe in this because I experienced it. What would you say about the following answer to your question: a) there are no (real) agents here to turn to and b) (more importantly) they are insecure because they have no independent source to get their information from or ask questions to.
p.s.
Any time!

Working as a cameraman in Germany I've noticed the change in conditions here. There is a serious economic depression and it has affected the erotic industry like all manufacturing businesses. The industry seems to have split into two... One half is the "plastic" side, what one contributor referred to as "manufacturing cars" a very accurate description, the intention being to produce and release a title a week for the rental market. The other side, is aimed at... cheap. Producing DVDs which retail at €5.99 or so, meaning that the wholesaler pays about €4 max for a DVD in case with cover. The sort of titles and production which I occasionally worked on, and enjoyed, aren't seen as economically viable anymore.
