DarkPlaces Member 477 Posts 3/07	Posted - Oct 15 2009 : 2:39AM Once one of the flat-out best directors in porn (after being one of its greatest male performers), now every time I watch one of John Leslie's films it's a frustrating experience because of the poor framing, meaning he keeps chopping off his performers' heads. In my experience, the better directors know to connect face and body (I mean, this is why we want pretty girls, right?). And I'm not talking about close ups of penetration, I'm talking full body shots that strangely cut off heads. What's odd is that it wasn't always this way. John Leslie seemed to come straight from the school of the late, great Alex DeRenzy who said, "If you've got her pussy and her face, you've got a shot." But somewhere down the line that was lost and to make it more frustrating, if the cameraman took one. single. step. back, the shot would be perfect. At one point in Jet Black Fuel 2, he's in so close he actually cuts off both heads and penetration. I can almost understand choosing penetration over a face (though common sense would tell you when a woman starts screaming out how she's coming, inexpressive genitals is not where you want to be), but to just flat out miss both!?! And the cherry on top of this? Close ups of a dude's face after he comes. Yeah, that's what I want. I think Leslie's getting a second wind, I particularly liked his recent Don't Make Me Beg which had a lot more full body shots with very few close-ups. It's funny you should mention Alex DeRenzy because while his features were great his terrible, terrible Rex Borsky videos in the 90s almost single-handedly turned me off porn for a decade with his mind-meltingly long close-ups of anal penetration. Was actually one of the reasons I always liked his films actually. I haven't seen any of his newer films though. Click to expand That's why this is both shocking and disappointing. Such shoddy camera work is not what you expect when you see John Leslie's name on a box. And adding to the irritation is the scenes are hot, so this detracts and distracts from them. [Link]

Click to expand I reviewed Jet Fuel 2 on this site recently. He did not score very high from me. I did give him 5 stars for Anal Payload, but that was mainly for Katja. I've never been a big fan of Leslie's work and I think it's directly related to the laziness of Leslie's style. [Link]

I'm in the reviewing Jet Fuel 2 and am completely drawn into it. I'm about 3/4 through the movie and even with it barely having any extras (which pretty much always knocks a DVD down a half point for me) I'm expecting to give it at least a 4 overall, and if the final scene blows me away there's a chance it'll get a 4 1/2 overall (which would mean getting or barely missing a 5 for the sex). A few years ago I'll admit that I kind of scratched my head wondering why so many people considered Leslie a master, but I don't think I was ten minutes into Jet Fuel 2 as a person who's pretty ambivalent about interracial sex completely understanding their reverence for him.
