I've been out of the country for a while. What is "Blu Ray" DVD, and are there pornos that are Blu Ray?

It's one of the competing formats for the high definition successor to DVD.

Frankly, as far as I'm concerned, there's not really a lot of porn that needs or deserves HD, but that's another story

I'm not aware of any adult discs yet released on BR due to the expense of both the media and the players (like ~$1000).

Today I received a BR machine and some discs. It's a Panasonic DMP-BD10, Japanese version. As it's my first encounter with BR, I plan a 'look and see' with it, in order to see it's working with BR discs but mainly to see it with standard rev. DVD's.
I've a Meridian G68ADV processor and players like Meridian G98DH & Arcam FMJ DV29 to compare with (connected to a Pioneer Pro-1130HD display using a plethora of cables).

Mail questions or when interested (please keep in mind that I'm based in Europe/220V/PAL territory).

If this Blu-Ray / HD DVD format war doesn't end real soon, I'm afraid that High Definition DVD could easily go the way of the MiniDisc player.

I'm thinking largely that the on-going format war has much to do with Hollyweird standing undecided. This time around, unlike the format war between VHS and Beta, the deciding factor is not the adult industry, but rather, the majors.

I personally don't see the need for many of the adult films to be released on HD (with exception to Ninn and Blake). Lets be real... A modern gonzo epic, produced over the weekend in someone's crappy apartment, should not merit (nor subject it's viewers to) HD... There's way too much clarity in HD for that! LOL!

It's worth trying though, to make the best of the data found on a disk (being it standard def DVD or HD). Al lot of BR players are able to upconvert this data (upconverting standard DVD to 720p and 1080i output). When the rest of your gear is able to work with these upconverted signals, the visible result can be of high standard.
For me, with todays prices for HD hard- and software, questionable future, hardly any HD-DCD to chose and often crude user-interfaces, this upconverting alone isn't enough to make BR a 'keeper'.
