If you watch "Family Business" on Showtime about how Seymore Butts makes his movies, it's almost always made up on the fly and rushed. Contrast that to a Wicked mega production with multiple shooting days and a bona fide script, and the level of organization is much higher.

As far as the rude remarks and meat puppet comments, I would propose that that has more to do with the genre and director than any sort of general "American porn" custom.

I don't think the sets are as unromantic as you may be afraid from your post. :)

The disorganization on the sets I have worked on seems to come from people being late - whether a porn star was late (which happens) so the crew and director sit around waiting or whether the crew and director got to the set at the same time they told the talent to get there so the talent sits around (which happens). Disorganization is mostly about timeleness.

As far as how people treat each other - my experience has never been like that posted. I have never been on a set with people drunk and yelling at each other. I have never had the director being rude to me.

I have been treated very well and very professionally. I have not shot one movie for a director that I would not work with again. And, I must be doing okay because over 80% of the companies I have shot with have booked me and shot me again.

The biggest thing that surprised me about this business was how nice and normal most of the people are in it. Don't get me wrong - there are some total scumbags at the bottom - but, I think way too many people think that is the whole industry and that is just not true.

Some of the attention to detail and organization is simply amazing, btw.

For example, Robby Fischer (Red Light) is incredibly organized. He even has a giant poster pre-planned for the girls of all the poses he wants so when he shoots he can point and say give me #79. How awesome is that?

Others like Joey Silvera have shot for so long and have such a clear vision that they don't have to pre-plan the last detail - they can get a feel for the girl, the costume, and the location and make it up on the fly and have it turn out totaly exactly what they wanted.

Cal444 is right that too many of us porn girls don't put enough professionalism into the job. There are too many flakes, or too many showing up strung-out, etc., or just showing up late. I understand his frustration.

I don't know how much you can expect from an industry of mostly 18-24 year olds who may be out on their own for the very first time with men plying them with money, drugs, drinks - whatever it takes to get those sexual favors.

But, as a porn girl I wish that as a whole we could be more reliable for directors. I can tell you that I have never been to a set late EVER, I have never shown up drunk or strung out. I take this very seriously and I am very professional about what I do. And, there are MANY girls like me.

Go back to your fantasies Nietzsche - it isn't a hell hole place to be on set. It (for me anyway) is a fun, sexy, and high-energy place to be.

I do kinda like the idea of "#79" though -- kinda like the ice cream place I worked at in high school, where all the flavors were assigned a number. Hmmm, there's a scene idea: The Baskin-Robbins of sex! Will that be one scoop ... or two?
